Our Lady of Sorrows Parish Church 📷 Spain (En-Es)

El Palo is one of the most maritime or seafaring neighbourhoods, so to speak, in the city of Malaga.

It is located in the eastern part of the city about 6 kilometres from the city centre.

El Palo es uno de los barrios mas marítimos o marinera, por decirlo de alguna forma, que hay en la ciudad de Málaga.

Esta ubicado en la zona este de la ciudad a unos 6 kilómetros del centro de la ciudad.

It consists of a main commercial avenue, and then we find the residential area and the one near the sea with many restaurants and beach bars very typical of the place.

Consta de una avenida principal muy comercial, y luego encontramos la zona de viviendas y la que está cerca del mar con muchos restaurantes y chiringuitos muy típicos del lugar.

But what I bring you today is the main parish of the neighbourhood called Our Lady of Sorrows Parish Church.

It has its main entrance on Avenida Juan Sebastián Elcano.

If we are located in the centre we can reach it with several bus lines, such as 3, 8 and 11.

Pero lo que hoy les traigo es la parroquia principal del barrio llamada Parroquia Nuestra Señora de las Angustias.

La misma tiene su entrada principal por la Avenida Juan Sebastián Elcano.

Si estamos ubicados en el centro podemos llegar a ella con varias líneas de autobuses, como son la 3, 8 y 11.

Its view is very simple but also very beautiful, with a garden in front, like most of the churches in Spain.

This garden has a lot of vegetation, very well kept and maintained. Seats for waiting or resting. It also has not only stairs to access the church but also ramps, either for the elderly or the disabled.

Su vista es muy sencilla pero también muy bonita, con un jardín delante, como la mayoría de las iglesias de España.

Este jardín tiene bastante vegetación muy bien cuidada y mantenida. Asientos para esperar o descansar. También cuenta no sólo con escaleras para acceder a la iglesia sino con rampas, ya sea para la gente mayor o discapacitados.

It can be visited every day except Mondays, in the morning until 12 noon and also in the afternoon from 6 p.m. onwards.

At the beginning this neighbourhood had no church, only a small chapel dedicated to the Virgin of the Rosary, but later, with the effort of the neighbours, the church we see today was built at the end of the 19th century.

Se puede visitar todos los días menos los lunes, por la mañana hasta las 12 hs. y también por la tarde a partir de las 18 hs.

En un principio este barrio no tenía iglesia, sólo una pequeña capilla dedicada a la Virgen del Rosario pero luego con el esfuerzo de los vecinos se construyó la iglesia que vemos hoy, a fines del siglo XIX.

Its façade is simple, as I said, but no less beautiful for that.
On this occasion I was able to enter and although at the beginning it was busy with children's orientation I waited a while and there I was able to walk around and take pictures.

Su fachada es simple, como dije, pero no por eso menos bonita.
En esta ocasión pude entrar y si bien al principio estaba ocupada con orientación para niños esperé un rato y allí pude recorrerla y tomar fotografías.

What we see inside were mostly donations from convents and other parishes.

Lo que vemos en el interior mayormente fueron donaciones tanto de conventos como de otras parroquias.

I was very struck by the amount of floral arrangements and the preservation of the statues: flowers were everywhere.

Me llamó mucho la atención la cantidad de arreglos florales y la conservación de las estatuas: Las flores estaban por doquier.

The small chapel dedicated to Our Lady of the Rosary is still preserved and is beautiful and bright.

La pequeña capilla dedicada a Nuestra señora del Rosario aún se conserva y es hermosa y luminosa.

Another detail, which I liked very much, is the large number of stained glass windows of many colours through which the light entered and made the church a magical place.

Otro detalle, que me gustó muchísimo, es la gran cantidad de vitrales de muchos colores por donde entraba la luz y hacía de la iglesia un lugar mágico.

Beautiful decorations, lots of light and a beautiful style.
The architecture is in very good condition and you can see that the neighbours take care of it.

Decoraciones preciosas, mucha luz y un hermoso estilo.
La arquitectura en muy buen estado y se nota los vecinos se ocupan de ella.

A very beautiful place and a very beautiful neighbourhood to visit and walk around.
