Parish Church "La Purísima Concepción" – Malaga 📷 Spain

In a hidden place between several houses and with a beautiful garden in front of it, I found a very simple but also very beautiful church, the church of La Purísima Concepción.

It is located in the neighbourhood of Gamarra, which was formerly a piece of land called Haza del Campillo.

La misma se encuentra en el barrio de Gamarra que anteriormente fue un terreno llamado Haza del Campillo.

This parish church was once given to the Discalced Carmelite Fathers when they returned to Malaga more than 100 years after their departure.

It is a church whose interior is beautiful and very original because of its green colour in several parts and can hold about 500 people.

Esta parroquia, en su momento, fue dada a los padres Carmelitas descalzas cuando volvieron a Málaga después de más de 100 años de su partida.

It is very difficult to find its doors open to visit it, only a few minutes before the twice daily masses. So I went there several times, the first time to photograph the outside and two other times for the inside, because it was really worth it.

A detail that distinguishes it is the Latin cross that can be seen on the outside, called the cross of the fallen made of sandstone, which can be found in the surroundings of the city.

This detail can also be found on the door and above it is the sculpture of the Virgin of the Immaculate Conception.

Un detalle que la distingue es la cruz latina que se observa en el exterior, llamada la cruz de los caídos realizada con piedra arenisca, que se encuentra en los alrededores de la ciudad.

También este detalle lo encontramos en la puerta y sobre ella la escultura de la Virgen de la Purísima Concepción.

Around the parish church there are many groups of houses that were planned to be built together with the church, but the latter opened its doors in 1942, two years before the housing blocks were finished.

Alrededor de la parroquia hay muchos grupos de viviendas que se planeaba realizar junto con la iglesia, pero esta última abrió sus puertas, en el año 1942, dos años antes de estar terminados los bloques de viviendas.

Inside the church there are several chapels with sculptures, images, crosses and paintings.

In the area behind the altar, of a beautiful green colour that stands out together with the gilding, we find a rather baroque style.

Its height is quite considerable and it is decorated with polished burgundy-coloured stone with white veins.

The circular windows attract the light, bringing it into the room and giving it a very particular illumination.

Su altura es bastante considerable y esta decorada con piedra pulida de color burdeos con vetas en blanco.

I was very surprised by the ceiling, very different from what I had seen before, it seems to have a rather rustic style, with a beautiful chandelier.

Me sorprendió mucho el techo, muy diferente a lo que había visto antes, parece que tiene un estilo más bien rústico, con una lámpara en forma de candelabro precioso.

Going back to the exterior, another thing that stands out is the tower of two sections, where the bells are located in the second one.

In this tower you can see arches and a hipped roof culminating in a cross weathervane.

En esta torre se pueden ver arcos y un tejado a cuatro aguas culminando en una cruz veleta.

The front gardens are very well kept, despite the fact that it is not a centrally located church, and therefore not so busy with tourists.

A central water fountain in the garden gives it a different and very nice touch.

Los jardines delanteros están muy cuidados, a pesar de que no es una iglesia que esté ubicada en el centro, por lo tanto, con no tanta afluencia de turismo.

Una fuente de agua central en el jardín le da un toque diferente y muy bonito.

There are benches to sit on, plenty of shade in hot weather and many trees and shrubs decorating the whole area.

It was a pleasant visit, to enjoy the architecture and style and at the same time the peace and quiet. A neighbourhood church, which is practically hidden, but very beautiful.
