Gaming is Finally in the Olympics! But It's Not What You Think

Yes, finally the Esport is a new category added to the Olympics, more precisely The Olympic Esports Series (OES). This is news to me but apparently, the qualifying window already started on the 1st of March and everyone is invited, professionals or amateurs you can all try and compete to get to the Olympics. But wait a minute. What is this?

Ummm... I don't know about you guys but I was expecting like League of Legends, or something like Counter-Strike or Valorant but instead, we got a bunch of mobile games and Vii-sports.

Okay, there are some things that kinda make sense, like Zwift, which is actual cycling with a help of a simulator and you could say that for Grand Turismo and racing too.

Also, they bundled up chess for some reason here. Don't get me wrong I love that chess is finally in the Olympics but I don't think it gets the respect it deserves to end up in this... whatever this is, haha. On the other hand, the rise of chess in recent years is definitely due to online play and the attention it got on platforms like Twitch so I guess it makes sense they recognize it as Esports.

That out of the way, what the actual... I mean... Tic Tac Bow? Just how?

How does a mobile game with around 1k downloads in the app store get to this list? The game was released a week ago. Is this some shitty way to promote the game? There is no way this makes sense. Unless I'm wrong and they are talking about completely other but I can't find anything called Tic Tac Bow other than this.

WBSC eBASEBALL™: POWER PROS? Maybe I'm just too critical but, what?

Another game that just got out. Hmmm, I'm sensing a pattern here.

I gotta stay fair here. No, not every game here is just released but I just don't understand the logic behind the picks. Is the requirement that it has been a game that is representing a sport in real life? Even with that requirement, there are hundreds of games that could fit better than most of these titles.

It is understandable why they maybe don't want games like League or CS because they use violence and killing as a means of winning the game. But then again we have this silly (VR) Virtual Taekwondo that is just like Taekwondo but instead, you are hitting the air and your avatar is fighting the opponent in the game. If only there was a highly competitive fighting Esports to cover this spot, haha.

These picks are so out of touch from what gamers and I'm certain non-gamers would find enjoyable to watch.

I really really hope that they don't decide to award medals in these competitions (aside from chess and Zwift maybe) as that would be for sure seen as a slap in the face to all those athletes dedicating their lives to win medals for their countries.

Yippee ki-yay, don't miss out, haha! I know I will. This is it, I don't know what to add more to this catastrophe.

What do you guys think? Is this something that might interest you? I just don't see it as anything more than embarrassment and some kind of weird promotion of games and products.

As always thank you for reading.

Honestly, I am all for esports, but think adding them to the olympics is just ridiclous. And it turns out that the games they are adding are not that impressive. I honestly can't see this garnering any real attention or viewership. But hey, I might be wrong

Yeah me too but I don't necessarily agree that it's ridiculous. If they went with an established game with a long-standing esport scene where it's all about dedication and skill and not some stupid mobile game that came two weeks ago it would make sense in my opinion. Something worthy to compete for an Olympic gold.

This just looks like they are trying to promote certain apps and products lmao. And then poor chess got caught in between all of this shit, haha.

I'm an old fashion type of dude! I think that only sports ( not esports) should be in the olympics.

I get that, but if the event doesn't evolve with the public interest, which leans more into esports every year, the Olympics would die out. That would be kinda sad.

Who picked these games? It would have been better to do a survey of gamers and pick something like the top 10-15 favorites. 🤔🤔🤔

There's no way any actual gamer was asked for their opinion, hahaha.

I know, ancient people, haha. But they have advisors for sure, esport scene isn't even new anymore in my opinion. Founders of Riot games and other bigger esports are in their late 30s and 40s, they don't have to reach out to kids to know what's up.

I really don't know much about the game but if it will make you happy, they should add it already 😂
