I have started my course of IELTS 1 month ago and I have another 1 month left to complete the course. After that I can give the IELTS exam and the score I need is 6.5 which is average to study abroad on the subject that I have chosen. I have few plans and I am getting closer to my dream day by day. If you are wondering what is IELTS? It’s a International English Language Testing System managed by British Council and IDP.

I have classes on Saturday, Monday & Wednesday. So, only 3 days I have classes from 6 pm to 8pm or sometimes teacher does take more the time to finish the classes. As always on this Monday at 6pm I went to the class.

We were taught about the writing task 1 where we have to describe about various type of graphs such as line, pie, bar graphs & task 2 where we have write an essay on a topic moreover, it depends on the question how to answer it by giving my opinion if I agree or disagree it could be argumentative and it’s been 3 days they have been teaching the same topic also today. If it was written in my native language then it would be my cup of tea. But I am not used to speaking in English so it’s very difficult for me to describe it in English.

On this Monday the task 1 & 2 is fully completed and in next class there we are gonna learn the listening. There are many various section in IELTS to learn. At first I used to think it’s gonna be easy but it’s quite hard because I am not used to it.

Writing task and Reading is the most hardest thing for me. Like without any practice I can’t do anything better just by listening to the teacher. The funny thing is the teacher asked everyone to watch more English movies and series and my friend who goes to the same course with me his parents won’t allow him to watch. Because they think that by watching movie, series he is just trying to entertain have fun. Like it’s unusual for teachers asking to watch and parents are not ready to believe it. Parents are thinking he is gonna get diverted from studies through watching these. But it’s for the betterment of English. It’s very hard to make the Asian parents understand.

I forgot to mention that on Monday they also gave us a paper to acknowledge how the exam papers are gonna look like. After seeing I was very confused because there were many things below and it’s marking criteria and the teacher explained it smoothly. We were asked to do our next homework with this paper and I must use pencils to write. It’s because if you write something wrong you can’t fix it with pen and it’s not gonna look good.

If I am gonna be able to complete my IELTS then I have many other things to do in order to study abroad.I have set goals/plans such as passport, NID, money, choosing university through online etc. I have set my goals to achieve.

Every day I am getting closer to my dreams. I really need to complete my IELTS course or else it would be truly hard to get the permission for studying abroad but I can also learn it after reaching the other country where I want to study but it’s gonna cost a lot like more than it’s in Bangladesh. So, it would be better if I can complete it from Bangladesh.

I have been preparing but sometimes I do feel laziness and didn’t feel like practicing what I have learnt. But I have nothing to do about it but grind. Also there is a chance of getting scholarships if I can score better. That would be helpful for me and half of my goals would be completed by January. I have to join the semester so I better leave in January otherwise I am gonna miss the semester.

My course might end in the month of October and it’s pretty challenging for me. anyhow I need to score above 6.5 because it’s necessary. I hope I can achieve my goals in time and get ready for my dreams to be fulfilled. In 24HRS I am feeling knowledgeable that’s because of learning something improving my skills and this is a great thing for me. Like I am feeling good that I didn’t waste my time on something that isn’t necessary but doing something which is profitable and trying to build my future. If I can study abroad I can fulfil many other goals of mine and that’s the thing I want in life keep completing my goals so that I would not have any regrets left in my heart.

It seems you are dedicated to go abroad for study purpose. Doing IELTS is a wise decision in my opinion. I don't have any intention to go abroad by doing IELTS. May be I am the lazy one😅.

I know that IELTS can seem really challenging, but I assure you, once you got their concepts and understand the pattern of every part, it'll be much easier.

As someone, who both took the test and now tutoring on this test, please feel free to let me know if there's anything I could share or help you with. I'll be glad to :)

Good luck!

Had to comment because... my wife fought so hard to pass the ielts so she could be a nurse here in Canada. We'll she started with toefl but found the ielts easier.

That was over 20yrs ago now and she is both a nurse and university instructor. Even if she failed the test many times before.

So keep it up and work hard. It really is possible. As a game I'm sure you know that sometimes grinding is required... even if it sucks.. haha.

I also had to smile because a good friend of mine (and his wife) are both ESL teachers and IELTS certified here in Vancouver. I hear about their students all the time.

As for watching movies. Sure. Hearing the language is important.. just remember not all movies are equally good to learn English from 😀

Keep striving and writing hard. I'm sure you can make it!
