Symposiums, and Other Student updates

Heya, hivers!

It's always a hectic week for me. How about yours? My time was mostly consumed by school stuffs, trainings, and side hustles. Never did I ever thought at first that it would be this way. Before taking that entrance exam, I have thought about this for a long time but I still missed those things in my calculations.

I choose this course, Information Systems over Education, since I have searched some information regarding its coverage and it shows that it isn't that stressful as much as Information Technology does or other courses. I know that I can't focus solely on my studies since I have to do some side hustles to finance my studies on my own. It's why I choose a course that I can manage well along with working and other personal stuff.

That's what I thought, but I was wrong and I missed another detail about school. It didn't came to me that even in college, there would be a lot of school activities also even if it isn't related to my studies but we are required to attend. There are also some tasks that we need to accomplish aside from assignments and projects.

Records

We're one of the satellite campuses of Bacolod City College, and it's 2 rides away from the main campus. Every time we have to settle our documents at the registrar, we need to go there personally. The location isn't the problem, but finding time in our schedules to fit them in. Another issue about it isn't the school administration but the politics in the city. Whatever decisions the Office of the City Mayor will impart in the city, the school is also affected since it is a local community college.

Though it has some shortcomings, we are still grateful for the Free Tuition wherein it is a huge help for us to study with less struggles financially. Before the enrollment of the school year 2022-2023, there has been an election for the new City Mayor. The previous one was defeated giving way to a new administration. Alongside with the elction results, a lot of government employees from the previous administration were terminated including all of the employees in our school's registrar.

Consequently, the flow of the school activities got delayed such as the enrollment, opening of classes, releasing of CORs, and Identification Records for the first years. Currently, we are now in our midterms of the second semester but we just had our photos and signature taken for our School ID card.

After our Programming subject before noon, we ate lunch and headed to the main campus. Our department was given (2) days to accomplish this task. When we had an opportunity in a whole afternoon, we grabbed that before the Media Resource Center of the campus gets crowded. Here I was with @blip-blop-blop, @breepickledoodle, and the others with our messy hairs, blown away by the wind while we are travelling.

We freshen a little and had our photos taken. After that, since we were there already and have time for other matters, we inquire at the School's Registrar regarding the requirements to have a copy of our official grades. Unfornately, we haven't brought our Prospectus with us. We'll have to wait for next time, then.

Symposiums

The City officials, Police Officers, Deans, and the Army officials have organized a Symposium for all students to benefit. It was about Anti-illegal Drugs, Anti-criminality, and Anti-tetrorism, discussed by the said sectors in (4) hours of an afternoon the next day after we got photos taken for our ID.

Initially, I planned to document the whole Symposium but the Central Student Government banned the use of mobile phones during the event. It was a mission failed before the event started, and this is the last photo we have taken right before the event.

During the symposium, each of the guest officials have discussed the following topics,

  • What is Terrorism?
  • The methods used by the NPAs to persuade people to join forces with them.
  • Why should we discourage the ideology?
  • Illegal Drugs and its disadvantages
  • Criminality, especially Cyber Crimes
  • and a lot more.

After the Symposium, taking photos with the guest as a memorabilia could never be left out. They were like celebrities in our eyes that we eager to takes photos with them. Here we are with the officials and @ecelyam05 with her peace sign. They had announced before we left that there will be another Symposium coming in the next weeks and it is about Firefighting as we celebrate the Fire Prevention Month this March. They also had promised to give us a Certificate of Attendance as a toke for our presence in the said event. One way of motivating us to attend again, but it is required anyway, either way, we have no other options.

Time to settle our records after that. Our Classroom President collected our Prospectus to be submitted at the School's Registrar. Unfortunately, again, we came at a wrong time. The office were already closed at that hour. We didn't realize the time inside the Activity Center as the even were held since we couldn't use our phones. And again, better luck next time.

Oh I miss the college days, much different than high school. I went to a community college for my associates and a university for my bachelor's. My college life was long as I worked full-time at the same time. It took me 8 years to get my associates, a class or two at a time. Once I knocked that down I enrolled in an accelerated bachelor's degree program that I wrapped up in 15 months. I met a lot of people in my long college tenure. Attended a couple of symposiums along the way :)
