Member of the Aceh DPR from the Aceh-5 Electoral District (North Aceh Regency and Lhokseumawe City), Muslim Syamsuddin, reminded that the graduation process does not mean the termination of alumni relations with the campus. He reminded that the responsibilities of alumni are never ending so that they are no longer in the campus environment.
"Even though we have become alumni, our relationship with the campus is not cut off. The alumni must also have responsibility for the progress of our campus," said Muslim Syamsuddin when giving a speech representing alumni at the 32nd batch of Malikussaleh University graduation ceremony at the ACC Building, Uteunkot Campus, Lhokseumawe, Saturday (5/8/2023).
According to the politician from the Sira Party, the progress of a campus is also determined by the concern of its alumni. Strong alumni will encourage the development of a campus. "Unimal alumni who are now in various places and have careers in various fields, must have concern for the alma mater," said the only member of the Aceh DPR from the Sira Party.
Muslim said that the progress of Malikussaleh University in the last few years has been very rapid, with facilities and resources that are far better than when he was in college. “Currently, Unimal students can enjoy more complete facilities compared to our era. In the past, the location of study often moved," added the alumnus from the Faculty of Engineering.
In line with Muslims, Prof. Dr. M. Sayuti also said that Malikussaleh University students currently have better quality facilities and teaching staff. However, these limitations do not erode the enthusiasm of students to gain knowledge. "I used to get a very low GPA," said the first Unimal alumni who became professors.
The Chancellor of Malikussaleh University, Prof. Dr. Herman Fithra Asean Eng, also hopes for the alumni's support to improve key performance indicators and achieve superior accreditation for the university. The Chancellor said that there are special job vacancies for graduates who receive predicates with honors (cum laude).
“But these vacancies are only for graduates who have received superior accreditation. So, our alumni can't compete in this special route yet,” said Herman.[ayi]
Pesan Anggota DPR Aceh untuk Alumni Universitas Malikussaleh
Anggota DPR Aceh dari Daerah Pemilihan Aceh-5 (Kabupaten Aceh Utara dan Kota Lhokseumawe), Muslim Syamsuddin, mengingatkan menjadi proses wisuda bukan berarti putusnya hubungan alumni dengan kampus. Dia mengingatkan tanggung jawah alumni tidak pernah berakhir menjadi tidak lagi berada dalam lingkungan kampus.
“Meski sudah menjadi alumni, hubungan kita dengan kampus tidak terputus. Para aluni juga harus memiliki tanggung jawab demi kemajuan kampus kita,” ujar Muslim Syamsuddin ketika memberikan sambutan mewaliki alumni pada upacara wisuda Universitas Malikussaleh Angkatan ke-32 di Gedung ACC Kampus Uteunkot, Lhokseumawe, Sabtu (5/8/2023).
Menurut politisi dari Partai Sira tersebut, kemajuan sebuah kampus juga ditentukan oleh kepedulian para alumninya. Alumni yang kuat akan mendorong pengembangan sebuah kampus. “Para alumni Unimal yang kini berada di berbagai tempat dan berkarier di berbagai bidang, harus memiliki kepedulian kepada almamater,” kata satu-satunya anggota DPR Aceh dari Partai Sira tersebut.
Muslim menyebutkan kemajuan Universitas Malikussaleh dalam beberapa tahun terakhir ini sudah sangat melesat, dengan berbagai fasilitas dan sumber daya yang jauh lebih baik dibandingkan ketika dirinya kuliah. “Mahasiswa Unimal saat ini bisa menikmati fasilitas yang lebih lengkap dibandingka era kami. Dulu lokasi belajar saja sering berpindah-pindah,” tambah alumlus dari Fakultas Teknik tersebut.
Senada dengan Muslim, Prof Dr M. Sayuti juga menyebutkan mahasiswa Universitas Malikussaleh saat ini memiliki fasilitas dan tenaga pengajar yang lebih berkualitas. Namun, keterbatasan tersebut tidak menggerus semangat mahasiswa untuk mendapatkan ilmu. “Dulu saya mendapatkan IPK yang sangat rendah,” ungkap alumni Unimal pertama yang menjadi guru besar tersebut.
Rektor Universitas Malikussaleh, Prof Dr Herman Fithra Asean Eng, juga mengharapkan dukungan para alumni untuk peningkatan indikator kinerja utama dan menggapai akreditasi unggul bagi universitas. Rektor menyebutkan ada lowongan kerja jalur khusus bagi lulusan yang mendapat predikan dengan pujian (cum laude).
“Tapi lowongan tersebut hanya bagi lulusan yang sudah mendapatkan akreditasi unggul. Jadi, alumni kita belum bisa bersaing di jalur khusus tersebut,” ujar Herman.[ayi]
