The most expensive part of poultry farming in Nigeria is the cost of feed, these days the cost has continued to rise astronomically and it has also affected the market price of the poultry birds when they've grown to maturity.

I made a calculation of how much I wanted to spend when I started this small poultry business compared to the gain I will make from it . The price of chicken during the festive season is higher than any part of the year, that's why I am preserving it for that period but it looks like the cost of rearing them for that period is get higher than my initial budget and since the birds have already grown I am now improvising to keep the cost down.

After getting the feeds I am adding a small amount of crushed maize grain to keep the cost of feed minimal although the nutritional value of the feed has reduced all I am trying to do is to make sure that the birds don't lose weight for the period.

The birds have gained so much weight already that they are ready for the market just in case I decide to sell them .
