Outsmarting Birds: How Timely Herbicide Helped Conceal My Rice Planting
HELLO HIVE
Sometimes it is not just weeds we fight on the farm, it is birds and rodents too, with this persistent problem driving me towards a lasting solution that I never thought of before now, and I strongly believe it will work for you too if you are facing a similar problem as I did.

You can decide to plant several times just to resolve the problem of birds and rodents virtually digging out everything you've planted before it gets to germinate but I believe the result might be the same Once these birds or rodents set their eyes on a specific food source it is very difficult to divert their attention from it.

But we can always come up with solutions to issues like this, that's why we are farmers in the first place.

After so much thought about the best possible solution to this pressing issue, a solution finally came in the form of the concealment of what we've planted using the weeds that are on the farm, Now instead of cultivating the farm which covers up the weeds underground I decided to plant the seedlings into the farm directly without cultivating the farm.

All I did was to make sure that the drainage system of the farm was properly managed, even though there's not much water now to require drainage, it will still be needed along the line when the farm gets swamped after several rainfalls.

The planting was done directly into the farm with the weeds looking very fresh and green Now at this point there is a critical understanding to note, you need to time things properly the rice has to come in before the application of herbicide while the herbicide has to be the same day the rice was planted or a day or two after that time by then the seed hasn't started germinating yet to prevent the herbicide affecting the growing seedling.
So while the seedlings are growing, the weeds are drying up, concealing the seedlings and providing them with nutrients. The moment it starts decaying to the ground, all to the benefit of the farmer.
