My Elementary Days: The National Anthem

Hello Hivers! @baby.magic here, back again with another funny story that will surely put a smile on all yo' faces.

So let's get to it.

This is the third instalment of a series of post that I'm gonna do about my elementary days. So enjoy!

The Flag Ceremony

Everyday, before the first subject starts pupils would gather around the field in front of the flag pole to sing the national anthem and pledge allegiance to the country.

Before the singing of the national anthem, the teacher who will conduct the song chooses a pupil to hit the bell to signal to everyone that the singing of the national anthem is about to start. And this time I was the lucky pupil delegated to hit the bell.

Of all the kids standing there, she just had to pick me.👹

So I hit the bell with a hammer signaling everybody to prepare. And so they sang the anthem and as they were singing I thought it would sound better if I accompanied it with a bell sound.

Now, I know most of you if not all don't know our national anthem so I'm gonna use the national anthem of the U.S. of A. Just for reference. And the flag ceremony went like this..

Bell sounds [TONGGG]

O say, can you [TONGGG]
By the dawn's early [TONGGG]
What so proudly we [TONGGG]
At the twilight's last glea [TONGGG]

At this point, everybody was giggling. And the teacher conducting the anthem couldn't stop because you have to finish the song and you're not allowed to stop.

So, since no one was stopping me. I went on..

Whose broad stripes and bright[TONGGG]
Through the perilous [TONGGG]
O'er the ramparts we [TONGGG]
Were so gallantly strea[TONGGG]

All the pupils couldn't concentrate on the anthem 'coz they were so amused by my masterful bell-ringing.

So I continued hitting the bell..

And the rocket's red [TONGGG]
The bombs bursting in [TONGGG]
Gave proof through the [TONGGG]
That our flag was still [TONGGG]

The teacher conducting the anthem was staring at me like she was ready to hurt somebody. But she couldn't stop and I wasn't planning on stopping either..

O say, does that star-spangled banner yet [TONGGG]
O'er the land of the [TONGGG]
And the home of the [TONGGGGGGG]

And then everybody burst into laughter. But the teacher was not happy at all. She was staring at me with a really mean face..

"WHAT??" I said to her.

"I got carried away."

..and then she tells me, "You think you're funny. I'll show you funny."

The Payback

The next day, they forced me to join the drum and bugle corps and they gave me a pair of cymbals. And they made me practice banging the cymbals near the flag pole at high noon.

Alone.

By myself.

Under the hot Sun.

I learned a valuable lesson that day. And that is, you never mess with the national anthem 'coz these people really take it seriously.

But I will never forget that prank, though.😂

[End of story.]

Forgive me, but this sounds Trini, I tried to zoom in on the flag, but I'm not sure. Anyways, so while reading this, I actually sang our national anthem adding in the "tongggg" at the end of each line. I screamed! This is sooo funny!

Hahahaha.

I don't think it is about messing up the national anthem. It is about messing things at a school.

I am wondering what thought encouraged you to hit the bell without the fear of any punishment.

It didn't occur to me at that time that they'd punish me. I just thought it would be funny if I messed up the flag ceremony.

Btw, I never like flag ceremonies.

Don't get me wrong I love my country. I just don't get why you have to do flag ceremonies everyday. And I think they realized that doing it everyday is too much because nowadays they only do it once a week, that's according to my niece.😀
