They Grow Up So Fast

When the lockdown was implemented due to the pandemic back in 2020, my son and I haven't been able to spend some time together doing some father and son bonding activities. He lives with his Mom in a different city. But we do talk via Messenger but chatting online is not the same as being with him physically. Needless to say, I miss my son.

So I was looking at some pictures of him when he was little and a lot of great memories flashed back to me. Like this picture for instance,..

This was the day when he took his first baby steps on his own. A milestone he has achieved after only 9 months outside his mother's womb.

Or this picture when he was just over a month old, we decided to give him a christening..

This is a very important part of being a Christian where the child is given a name and the protection of God and his angels.

And then, I saw this picture of my son doing the same thing as me while we were sleeping. My wife was so amused by this that she decided to take a picture of it so she could show it to me when I wake up.

I'm a big fan of Dirk Nowitzki, a German NBA player playing for Dallas and when the Mavs won their first title back in 2011, I decided to buy my son a Mavs shirt to celebrate. And my son was so happy with his Mavs shirt.

Because of this pandemic, I haven't been able to celebrate his birthday with him because of travel restrictions so I just looked at his birtyday pictures.

This was his first birthday. I remember saving up for this day 'coz I wanted to give him a party to celebrate his first year on this Earth. He has no idea why there's so many people in this room.😁 He doesn't know that they're all there to celebrate his first birthday.😁

And another picture that put a smile on my face was when my son was dancing in the streets during a festivity in Cebu. He was really into it and he wanted to join the street dancers.😅

And that day when he first started showing interest in books my wife was able to capture it in her camera. He was mumbling as if he was reading the words in the book.😁

And this is my son now.

All grown up and he's almost as tall as his Mom. It seems like it was just yesterday when I was carrying him in my arms. So little and light and all he does is sleep and ask for milk.

But that was when he was still an infant. These days, he's asking for a lot of different things. Like a toy or a treat at Jollibee, just little things that comes to his head. And just a few days ago he sent me a message,..

He greeted me a happy father's day. Which is a month from now so I knew something was up. So I message his Mom and told her about our son's message, and she just laughed and replied to me that my son needs something. So I just said to my son I'll send him money the next day.

Well, they really do grow up so fast. One day they're asking you for a bottle of milk, the next day they're asking for money to buy food or toys. I wonder if tomorrow he's gonna ask me for money so he can take his girlfriend on a date.

It is very important that we cherish every second that we spend with our kids 'coz there are unforeseeable events that could happen in the future that would separate you from your children. Being present in our children's lives is also essential since they are at a stage in their lives that needs guidance from their parents. Whether it's online or physical presence the important thing is you are there when they need you.
