What true rest is to me #308

Dad how did you teach me again to not feel over whelmed? I ask my dad two days ago while on the phone with him. Cos right now I have a lot on my plate to do and I don’t even know how to get through all of them.

I said with a little bit of worry as I stared up on my felt board holding in place my to do list for the day. I had written down over 23 things I needed to do for the day that I remembered not to mention that there were others that kept popping up here and there. Needing my attention.

I felt as I give time to them, I had others that I had noted that are pending that I needed to do same day. Some more pressing than the others.

Hmmmm, he breathed and asked me what do you remember? I said well, prayer helps to clear my head and gives me renewed energy. Yes that’s okay and alongside with that, one thing you should know is that you cannot crowd up 20 things you need to do through the day into one hour.

When you do that, you will get overwhelmed and anxiety sets in! Does that make sense he asked? Yes sir, I answered. So what you do is to take it one at a time and be grateful for each one you do knowing that it’s getting you closer to your goals for the day.

Another things for you today do sandwich them. Look for the ones that can be done alongside with others and pair them. Like bathing and having your daily confessions along side.

That made so much sense to me because practically for me, rest isn’t only when I get to lie down. I get to have rest when I get though my day without worrying what I have done and what’s not undone. That’s on one hand.

On the other hand, I get to work hard and stay on the go for long hours and days that I get little rest and sleep. When my body alarm starts ticking that it needs rest, just like it did this morning , I unapologetically take that rest.

I was to wake up by 4:30am today and I was actually awake at past 3am but my body was saying otherwise. I would have felt guilty but hell no. I switched off my alarms and phone not wanting any disturbances until past 7am this morning.

I took that deserving rest. True rest for me is having mental peace as I work through my days work and not having to worry about being overwhelmed from so much work. And also getting to give my body that enough rest on the days it desires it the most

I can get to delegate some duties and if I really need to shut down and sleep. I do and do not regret it one bit. I know that my body is like an engine and deserves to rejuvenate once in a while.

Another meaning of true rest to me is that I get to eat what my body craves on special occasions and when I take these special foods, I feel well rested. Foods like fruit parfait, chicken Peppersoup and ice creams are my ways of giving my body and cravings rest.

Whether it’s mental rest, body rest alongside with food rest, I take it without any feeling of guilt. We live and all have once to live. 😁

Please do not let anyone guilt trip you on taking that rest when you need it.

Glad you can talk to your Dad like that :)
Giving yourself the break it needs without feeling guilty is awesome. It can be a challenge for some (or many). I like the idea of food rest :)

Yes, sometimes we guilt ourselves into not resting, but as the world in which we live speeds up and we along with it; it becomes crucial to stop and take that rest now and again and recharge.

Thanks for sharing and have a lovely day! !LADY
