Yesterday afternoon, just before the school bell rang to signal the end of another busy day of learning, I found myself on a tranquil journey to Naka Temple.
With the thought of picking up my son from school later. Naka Temple nestled not far from my son's school, held an air of quiet serenity as I stepped onto its hallowed grounds. The noise of the bustling town seemed to fade away as if on cue, leaving me with nothing but the soft rustle of leaves and the gentle whispers of my own thoughts. The temple stood as a refuge of stillness amidst the urban chaos.

As I walked further into the temple, my gaze was drawn to the magnificent sight of the pagoda's golden spire reaching towards the heavens. Bathed in the late afternoon sunlight, it seemed to radiate a sense of otherworldly splendor. Its intricate details glimmered, each curve and contour telling tales of a rich history and unwavering devotion.

Naka Temple in the Wichit Subdistrict of the Mueang District within Phuket Province. This land, which now cradles the temple's tranquility, has a history intertwined with the island's past of mining endeavors. Long before the temple's presence graced the area, Phuket was a patchwork of mining activities that shaped the land and its communities. The very ground on which Naka Temple stands today bore witness to this history, once being a mining site itself.

The temple's origins are traced back to a pivotal moment when Mr. Wirat Hongyok extended his benevolent hand. He selflessly donated the land that had once been a part of the mining operations by Anuphas Phuket Company. Six decades ago, this generous act set in motion the establishment of Naka Temple.

In 1964, the temple's first structure, a simple sermon hall, was erected. This humble beginning marked the inception of one of Phuket's oldest and most cherished temples. Over time, the temple evolved, growing not only in physical presence but also in its significance to the community it served.

Curiosity led me to ascend the steps to the second floor of the magnificent "Phra That Chedi Si Sorot" pagoda. As I looked down from this elevated vantage point. Nestled below, there stood a small pavilion, its architectural elegance complementing the tranquil aura of the temple. Within the pavilion's confines, a white Buddha image sat enshrined, exuding an aura of purity and wisdom.

At the heart of the pagoda, on the sacred third floor, lay a treasure of immeasurable significance: the relics of the Buddha, lovingly enshrined within a glass jar. This relic, a profound connection to the teachings and legacy of the Buddha himself, rested within the pagoda's sanctum. The glass walls that enclosed it allowed the light to dance upon the relic, casting a reverent glow that seemed to breathe life into the very air.

Naka Temple was a unique sanctuary in the heart of bustling Phuket town. Surrounded by modern houses and towering skyscrapers, it stood as a living testament to the harmonious coexistence of tradition and progress. The juxtaposition of the temple against the backdrop of contemporary life was a poignant reminder of the cultural tapestry that makes a place truly remarkable.
