Silkworm farming folk wisdom!

Villagers in the Northeast of Thailand popularly raise silkworms as an additional income from farming. Raising silkworms to remove silk threads from silk cocoons to weave and sew to make clothes. Some people sell silk threads some people weave silk into large pieces to add market value. My relatives, including my mother, raised silkworms as well. Mom will plant a mulberry tree as food for the silkworms. When I was a child, my mother would teach me and my younger sister to raise silk and weaving as well. But we didn't like it because we didn't go out to play with our friends. Before I realized that this was a mother's wisdom that was passed on to us, I couldn't do it now.

My mother had to give the mulberry leaves to the silkworms three times a day, around 2 am. My mother would wake up to bring the mulberry leaves to the silkworms. At that time I thought it was hard work that was not worth it. But mom did it without complaining that she was tired. I've been seeing worms since I can remember. But I would love to take one step, which is to remove the silk threads from the cocoon to be sold or weaved. Around 4 am, my mother, woke up to boil water and then put the cocoon in the boiling pot. Then pull the silk from the cocoon and then it will be left as a pupa that can eat. Delicious taste, which I love to eat.

ชาวบ้านภาคตะวันออกเฉียงเหนือ ภาคอีสานนิยมเลี้ยงไหมเป็นรายได้เสริมจากการทำนา การเลี้ยงหนอนไหมเพื่อเอาเส้นไหมออกจากรังไหม เพื่อทอและเย็บเพื่อทำเสื้อผ้า บางคนขายเส้นไหม บางคนทอผ้าไหมเป็นชิ้นใหญ่เพื่อเพิ่มมูลค่าตลาด ญาติๆ รวมทั้งแม่ของบัวก็เลี้ยงไหมเช่นกัน แม่จะปลูกต้นหม่อนเป็นอาหารให้หนอนไหม ตอนเด็กๆ แม่จะสอนบัวและน้องสาวให้เลี้ยงไหมและทอผ้าด้วย แต่พวกเราไม่ชอบ เพราะพวกเราอดออกไปวิ่งเล่นกับเพื่อนๆ ก่อนที่จะรู้ว่านี่คือภูมิปัญญาของแม่ที่ส่งต่อให้พวกเรา ซึ่งตอนนี้ก็ทำไม่เป็นแล้ว แม่ต้องเอาใบหม่อนให้หนอนไหมวันละ 3 เวลา ประมาณตี 2 แม่จะตื่นมาเอาใบหม่อนมาให้หนอนไหม ตอนนั้นบัวคิดว่ามันเป็นงานหนักที่ไม่คุ้มค่า แต่แม่ทำโดยไม่บ่นว่าเหนื่อย บัวเคยเห็นหนอนไหมตั้งแต่จำความได้ แต่ชอบที่สุดคือขั้นตอนเดียวคือการเอาเส้นไหมออกจากรังไหมเพื่อขายหรือทอ ประมาณตี 4 คุณแม่ตื่นมาต้มน้ำแล้วใส่รังไหมลงในหม้อเดือด แล้วดึงไหมออกจากรังไหมแล้วจะเหลือเป็นดักแด้ที่กินได้ รสชาดอร่อย มันจะมันๆ ค่ะชอบกินมากๆ โปรตีนแน่นๆ
