If walls could talk...

How would you feel if you speak out in your room and the wall opens its mouth to reply? Would you be shocked? Scared? Faint? Or run out screaming like you saw a ghost?
Whichever you decide to choose, just keep the image in mind.

We live in a world where it is better to stay indoor and speak to empty air because we believe someone hears us. It is not like we don't want to speak to people all the time, but... our opinion sometimes get trashed by them or they may end up mocking us for them. Besides that, the challenges life brings make it a bit hard to speak out because everyone is going through a lot, especially in some African countries and other countries where war has become their way of life.

We mostly find comfort in our room because no one will mock us for our thoughts said out loud, but what if the walls could talk? Will it insult us or demoralize us for our thoughts said out loud? Or will it share our pain and give us a shoulder to rest on? These thoughts invade my privacy and I couldn't help writing about this. We all know the wall as an inanimate object, still, it didn't stop me from my crazy thoughts.

Come to think of it, Animated Movies have made some children think tin of tomatoes, shoes, glasses, and all other inanimate objects can talk. If truly these things can talk and hear us, it will be amazingly fun to hold my shoes and start speaking and expecting it to say something. I would be mistaken for a drunk... alcohol can make people do insane things.

Without further ado, let's see the positive and negative responses the wall could say if it could talk.

If you've read most of my posts on #theinkwell, you would know I mostly love happy endings though I write some other fictional stories that have tragic endings. Saying this is to get our shoes ready for the negative words the wall could say.

Negative Responses.

Knowing what negativity entails, the wall could come up with lots of demoralizing words, rains of insults, backbiting/snitching, and many more.

Looking at the demoralizing aspects, let's imagine a person who just failed another interview after many other failed attempts. The wall could end up saying;

You are a failure. You will never get a job, just give up and live life as a miserable person.

No one will feel super good if they hear words like this on any day, either good or bad. We all want to be encouraged even when we look down on ourselves.

Moving on to the rains of insults the wall could bring, it can say words that may lead us astray. Let's take for instance a person who made a mistake in getting things right or the case of some teachers who insults their pupils or students. Words like this could be heard;

You mean to tell me you don't know 2+2 is 4? Well, I can't blame you. You are so dull and you will not achieve anything in life with your coconut head.

No child will hear this and smile at what the teacher said, instead, he or she will feel insulted and may lose hope of ever being good in life.

The next part speaks about Snitching/Backbiting. This happens around us a lot. We would see people who only listen to us when we speak so that they would tell others what we have secretly told them. Let's imagine a person who was raped and lost his or her virginity. If the wall could talk, it may say to others;

You won't believe this person or that person isn't a virgin anymore. He or she was raped though I bet he or she enjoyed the moment.

No one would hear this and feel amazingly good about their secrets let out without their consent.

The wall is a nonliving thing, but it can be found everywhere. If it could talk and speak the aforementioned words, what would be your reactions to it? Will you get bitter, feel like a damaged good, feel the need to give up, or end your life? What will be your response to the words said to you?

'The grass is not always greener on the other side', so I heard. I do agree with this as you can see that the first outlined part of If the wall could talk is negative. Looking at the positive side, let's see what it may say using the outlined words aforementioned.

Positive Responses.

We have 3 outlined words in the previous responses which are; demoralizing, rains of insults, and backbiting/snitching.

Firstly, if the wall could talk when it feels a person is demoralized after many failed attempts in getting a job, it could speak out these words;

Hang in there. I know you have been through a lot. I can hear you and I was with you when you were rejected. But, I got to tell you this, it isn't the end of the road. You will survive this. You are the most amazing person I have ever met. Keep it up.

No one will hear this and feel sad or even give up trying. They will want to continue working endlessly toward achieving their aim.

Moving on to the other part which deals with rains of insults, the wall being a teacher can say words like this;

Can you show me your fingers? Count 2 on the left and another 2 on the right, add them together, and tell me what you got. Always remember, do not feel down by this. You just need to focus and ask questions and you will be good to go.

No one will hear this and feel insulted by the words said. Everyone wants to be encouraged and helped with their shortcomings so that they can become a better version of themselves.

The next part speaks on Backbiting/Snitching which is the final part of this post. A person who was raped will feel gladdened if the wall could keep the secret. The person will feel safe. He or she can move around freely where people are talking without having to look around with their thoughts hunting them with thoughts like "your secret is out, everyone knows about your story". But if the wall could talk, what would it say? Let's have a glimpse at this statement;

Being raped isn't the end of the world. I know you feel saddened that you lost your virginity this way, but you should know this, whoever belongs to you will take you as you are because you are amazing. Do not be dampened by what happened... lift your head high and walk out gracefully because you are very smart, strong, and incredible.

No one will hear this and feel betrayed and hurt. Anyone who heard this during their battle in life will truly believe that they are not alone.

The positive part speaks about the greener part of the grass, unlike the negative part. If the wall could speak these words, would you be pleased, grateful, or go insane?

Can you keep a secret? Are you trustworthy? How do people around you feel?

I am not ashamed to let out the fact that i talk to the walls of my room. I look at the wall and see the woman I'm striving to become. I speak and bare myself because I do trust the walls to keep a secret. I totally understand the part of crazy ramblings and an overactive mind. I'm insane myself. An insane genius.

Truly an insane genius. We don't need to be ashamed to let out how we feel. It is a feeling that mustn't be killed in. Sorry this reply came in late.

If objects could talk, it will so much fun and we should be expecting some terrible conversation.

Imagine your shoes telling another shoe in a public place that I wish I were as clean as you are, my owner is dirty and barely wash me.😂

I talk to the ceiling more than the wall. Many times I just look up and pour out my mind knowing very well that I wouldn't get anything in response but I feel very light-hearted after that silly conversation.

At least, my thoughts wouldn't be taken as a crazy man's own. The wall won't judge me.

The shoe talk is very funny and yeah it will be weirdly fun if we can hear inanimate objects speak. I do agree with your opinion. Sorry the reply to this came in late.

Sometimes, I prefer talking to myself...most times it sounds crazy but ermm I feel better that way...the walls would have been a better sanctuary but who knows? I enjoyed reading this beautiful piece and I also admire the way you write!😍
