Sapphire's Mischievous Act.

Standing on the queue with a brown polo and a pink short, Eddie sighed when the looks he was getting started making him feel irritated.

He wondered why he, a 50-year-old man, decide to dress out like this when he remembered the person behind it all, Sapphire, his beloved daughter. Rolling his eyes, he remembered how he had gotten trapped in her schemes.

Sapphire loves playing games and she is very good at them, especially board games. How she always trick him into playing the game even when he swore he won’t is a superpower his daughter has. No, it was her perfect doe eyes that can not be resisted.

After his wife, Daphne, died 4 years ago due to a hit-and-run, he and his daughter become very close. He was always at work saving people since he is a policeman but he had to change a lot of things to spend quality time with his daughter which was why he was here in ridiculous clothing today.

There is a rule attached to every game they played.

“The loser will always do what the winner says.”

And being the loser as always, he was “ordered” to wear a pink short, a brown polo, a multiple-colored hat which he was grateful for as it hid his face from people, and a heel on his muscular legs to make his day very good... He is such a fortunate man.

When the queue got to him, he searched his pocket to bring out his wallet but he was shocked. He face-palmed when he realized he had forgotten his wallet at home.

“Couldn’t today be any better?” he muttered. “For goodness sake, it is his birthday, why did his daughter decide to make him miserable?” He asked no one in particular.

_{Turning around, he walked out of the bakery as he muttered; “So much for getting a cake and Chinese food”. They would have to order cos he wasn’t going to come out again in this ridiculous look.}

He turned left and walked down the busy road before turning right to his street. On getting home, he met the door ajar. Fear clouded his mind as he remembered asking his daughter to lock the door which she did in his presence. Is this another scheme of hers? He wondered.

Walking into his home, his mouth open agape at the horror that stood before him. It was like World War 2 decided to be shifted to his home. Everywhere was a mess. The chairs were turned upside down and the kitchen utensils and equipment were scattered on the floor.

“Sapphire?” he called out closing the door behind him. “Sapphire, are you home?” he questioned again but no answer got to him.

“Come on Sapphire, stop the joke. You know you are never to leave the door open". He said again but no answer came in.

Walking further inside, something caught his eye, it was someone's footprint covered in white. Walking closer, he bent down and touched the substance and smelt it only to realize it was flour.

“Sapphire? He called again. “Stop the game honey, get me my wallet if you want your cake", but still silence reigned.

He felt a rush of blood on his face when he realized his daughter wasn’t in. Did she open the door for someone hoping it was him who came back because he forgot his wallet? “Oh God!” he screamed.

Running into his room, he found his phone on the bed where he had left it earlier. Picking up the phone, he decided to call his partner, Jeffery, when something caught his eye again at the far end corner of his room. Laughing out maniacally, he dropped his phone and put off his clothes to shower. As he left the shower he walked into the kitchen to prepare a sandwich before he switched on his laptop to watch a movie.

After a few hours of eating his sandwich, he noticed he had finished it. Picking up the plate he kept in the sandwich, he opened his door and walked to the kitchen to prepare something else neglecting the messed up place. He felt the presence of someone in his home before he heard the footsteps. Turning around, he was met with the eyes of his 14-year-old daughter, Sapphire, staring back at him.

Before he could speak, she beat him to it. “I can’t believe you didn’t even try to search for your daughter. I was waiting for you to call the police". She muttered with a pout. “What gave it off?” She questioned.

“You forgot to clean off the flour on my shoes”. Eddie replied with a chuckle. "I guess you took my wallet and messed up everywhere in a jiffy because you knew I may be home soon. Isn’t it?" He questioned.

Sighing, Sapphire crossed her arms on her chest. “I worked hard to have things planned out for you. You could have called the police you know”. Before he could respond, she continued. “Close your eyes, Papa, I have a surprise for you". Eddie closed his eyes to see what his mischievous daughter has in stock for him again.

More footsteps were heard coming in and Eddie wanted to open his eyes but he stood calmly.

"Surprise!!!" Screamed his daughter.

Opening his eyes, he was met with a cake, food, drinks, his partner, and some other police officer who were off duty for the day.

“Happy birthday Dad. I had wanted to celebrate you in your office today that was why I messed up everywhere to trick you into coming to the station, but you were too wise to fall for my trick. I think you have grown a thick skin, I need to top up my games”, She said with a smile.

Lots of laughter were heard as Eddie hugged his daughter. “I thought you forgot my day.”

“Never, it isn’t possible” she responded giving her Dad a peck on his cheeks.

His colleagues came in to wish him as a lot of chatters were heard. Hugging everyone, he carried his cake and some drinks before speaking.

“Thank you all for today. I appreciate it. Now, it is time to clean up the place. I will be in my room enjoying my day so I need you all to be very quiet while cleaning. No more noisy footsteps". He said before walking toward his room.
