Why am I showing this photo for the ROOTS theme? The frame for him is made exclusively of roots. I'll show you a few more root artifacts at the end. And now I invite you to the coast of the Gulf of Finland.

Now there is a lot of snow and ice. But this does not mean that the roots are gone, they are hiding under the snow and sleeping.

But in this case, there is a photo archive. We will go there.

I will say a few words about the features of these trees and roots, and the photo story will follow.

Basically, alder and slightly less birch grow in this place. The surf is gradually washing away the sand and the roots are exposed. Look at the photo above, here you can see the whole history of the tree. In the spring, the surf carries ice fragments that destroy the roots. You see that the trunk has protected the roots from behind, but all the front and side ones are broken and carried away by the surf. The grass also received protection. Strange, but in such places in the summer I sometimes even found mushrooms.

You can also see that the roots are not only bare, but also treated with surf. I used to go to these places often in search of unusual roots and usually successfully.

Now just look at the variety of root shapes.

At the end of our story, I promised to show something made from roots.

It is heather root.

And this is a stranger from the Black Sea beach. I think this is a piece of eucalyptus root.
