Morning in the mountains. New Athos

Armenian gorge. This is the name of the place where we rented a house when we lived in New Athos. This is practically the outskirts of the city, along the bottom of this gorge the Msrakuara River flows and soon it flows into the Black Sea. Our house stood across the street from this river, and on the other side, an ascent to a small mountain range began. If you climb it, you can move towards the mountains from the sea. It is extraordinarily beautiful there. You can not go anywhere on it at all, but just come to this place and enjoy. This is exactly what we did in the early morning.

There is a lot of greenery in Abkhazia, but more than others I like eucalyptus. Once upon a time, these parts of the Black Sea coast were swampy, here you could get sick with malaria. It was decided to bring and plant eucalyptus trees. These trees are natural pumps. They absorb large amounts of water. Since then, these places have become resort, and eucalyptus even made their way into the mountains. I don't really understand where they find water here, but maybe their roots have found mountain springs of water below the surface. Who knows. In the last photo, you can appreciate the power of these trees.

The last look at the sea and we plunge into the wild thickets.

In these thickets, I never expected to meet a praying mantis (Mantis religiosa). This is a fairly large predator and I have never met him in nature before. I must say that he has a wonderful disguise.

Here we are at the top of the ridge. It is not the tallest, we do not look overhead at the rest of the mountains, but this morning we did not need it. We enjoyed the morning freshness and beauty of nature.

The sun rose higher and higher, it became noticeably hotter, but at the top of this ridge the breeze still drove the night coolness out of the wild thickets. More smells appeared. I won't say that there was paradise, but the place was magical.

It's nice to remember such adventures, especially before today's trip into the depths of winter. In a couple of hours we go to one forest lake to visit friends. It's a real Russian winter there and we hope to have a good time and relax. I'll show you everything later.

Beautiful, it is so green there. Here in the south of Spain it gets dryer and dryer…

I have always loved the tones of green in nature, but these are the most vibrant shades of green. I'm not lucky to see this everywhere, thank you.

Stunning series of photos. I did not know that eucalyptus a natural pump, very interesting. Huge trees. I think I see English Ivy growing on a tree in one photo.

In your first, tenth, and fifteenth photos, there's a very pointed mountain. Do you know what the name of that particular mountain is? I was looking on the map at the terrain in this area and the aerial view is stunning.

(Edited)

Yes, eucalyptus perfectly pump out excess water from swamps))
It's definitely ivy, but I don't know which one. There, many trees are entwined with this plant.
I do not know the name of this mountain. It is located opposite the Iberian Mountain across the Msrakuara River and looks like an old pyramid. Here is one of the close-ups

Ivy will take over. It does that where I live. Thank you, I was trying to locate it on the aerial view, such an unusual shape. It looks like there are few caves in the close up view. That would be interesting to explore.

There are New Athos caves in these mountains. Some of them are accessible to tourists, but most of them are closed and not even explored.
I think there are many that are simply undiscovered.

It doesn't look like many are open, based on the photo. Very interesting to see all this. Sure wish I could go in person. If not for your post, I would never have seen this area. Thank you!

I think that no one specifically looked for them here or researched them. Even the New Athos caves were discovered by accident. And now there is a time when very few people are engaged in this business. Or just no one talks about it)

So found by accident. It makes me wonder what else is out there to discover accidentally. Perhaps these things are kept under wraps, not for the general public to know for whatever reasons.
