New Year's symbols

avatar

Sometimes a symbolic installation can be found in the most unexpected places. In this picture, you can see the entire history of the Soviet Union from inception to collapse. This is a very sad story and I will not touch on it. And this puzzle was formed in one of the tents of the flea market.

I just went out for a walk on a frosty sunny day. I didn't care where to go for a walk, the main thing is not far and not for long and so that I could shoot something. The closest and most picturesque is the flea market on Udelnaya. That's where I went. And there was also the idea of taking pictures of old Father Frost, whom they used to love to put under the New Year tree. As a child, I remember this at home.

The market is opposite the church, and the church is on the territory of the insane asylum. This also has its own symbolism, but I cannot understand which one.

Here is the first Father Frost. Not the one in the red jacket that collects money from the sellers, but the one on the left, among the small goods, rises.

My search was crowned with success. In one place, then in another, I met these symbols of the New Year. Even small funny stories like this one were born.

It was -18C outside at that time. I have no idea how these sellers work here, they probably just gradually adapted.

Happy New Year, friends!

-18* brrrrr, this sounds like Stay home time for me, but from your pictures I see life goes on in -18 😀 The cold must be dry there, here the humidity is high and we have winds so when it drops below -5 it feels horrible, cold, wet wind that goes trough your bones. But I remember how in -20 in Colorado it was ok, as long as you move of course 😀
The flea markets are fun, you can always spot something interesting.

Everything is relative, buddy))
In the middle zone of Russia (Tver), I walked in -35C for 4 hours in nature. It was a little colder than yesterday at -18C (St. Petersburg). We are also quite humid, but there was no wind yesterday :)

I agree, flea markets are their own world and there is always something interesting there.

I am so pleased to have you post into the #MarketFriday challenge. I know this is an especially busy time of year, so I am pleased that you took the time. To be honest with you, it touches my heart that it has continued for so long, and yet, almost every single person gives me something fresh and interesting. Many people really thought it would run its course of markets and end, but, everyone that participates has proven this theory wrong. With Christmas just past and New Year upon us, I wanted to take a moment to say thank you. Thank you so much for helping make this challenge a success. Without your help, it would be just another place to post. It is people like you that have given it a recognizable name. Thank you! ❤

#MarketFriday began as a way to reach out across the globe and learn about different cultures through their markets, especially local markets and farmers markets and eventually branching out and evolving over time from straight shopping to a cultural affair as it highlights how we differ and then again, how much we are alike. We have become a melting pot of culture, but, it is still the Rituals, Festivals, food, architecture, even your language/languages that separate us... Along with the fact of what is these things are normal for us. There are unwritten rules that rule our social behaviors. I see this as allowing for increased tolerance between cultures and nations, and opportunities to come together on an even playing ground. A strong culture can be beneficial to a country as it promotes unity, especially during a crisis, peaceful debate, and open dialogue. I have learned so much about all of you and it has been an amazing experience. I can only hope that learning about each other can help us work together for a peaceful world.

Fridays are all about the #MarketFriday Challenge! Looking to take part in it? Here is how:

Rules of the Road to Join #MarketFriday!
Go to the market, or anywhere that you pay money for a service.
Take pictures! Be creative!
Tell us a little bit about the market or the event. What brought you there? What did you buy? How much did it cost?
Post the picture(s) Of course, you should tell a little bit about the ones you post
Use the MarketFriday Community Platform to post #hive-196308 (this is not required, but appreciated)

  1. Drop the link into the MarketFriday comment section so I can find it
Following me and reblogging the post so more see it would be appreciated !! Not a rule, just appreciated, more vision for more views on your posts!
  2. You must put #MarketFriday by @dswigle somewhere on your post. If you don't and someone reads it, there is nothing to tie #MarketFriday to that post.
Please only one post each week. Believe it not, I run out of voting power if you put in many more than that.
As always, please remember! #MarketFriday loves you!

Lately, I don't often go to places where you need to buy an entrance ticket :)) I think that the time will soon come when I should not be allowed to go to such establishments altogether. But the flea market lives its own life and may remain my only entertainment from public places :-)))

Thanks for your kind words. I haven't visited for a long time, but I hope to do it more often now.
I wish you happy holidays, health and happiness!

It is definitely not that cold here, which is sad for me, because I love how snow looks as much as it does in your pictures.
