Inktober day 8: Toad

(Edited)

Day 8! I am at day 8 with no skips and pauses, this makes me really proud UwU
For today's prompt we have toad. I was actually having a hard time differentiating between toad and frog because what I know is that toads are also frogs. But me being me, I had to look up the distinct differences and I later found out that while toads are definitely frogs, toads are the types that have lots of warts and really bumpy and dry looking skin. They're still cute though because idk I like frogs and I love their beady eyes and meh faces. And I also like those small wood frogs and I've always wanted to buy one but I'm getting sidetracked here XD
Anyways, here's my drawing for day 8!

Duration: 3 hours
Materials: my new pen set and I made green ink + white gel pen UwU

I'm pretty happy with how my little toad came out and my sister actually asked for this drawing from me because she likes frogs too. I also did a digital froggy a few years back when I started learning digital

And you can see that this one is definitely a frog because of how smooth and slimy the skin is. My sister also has the originall copy of this and I cannot get over how cute that is! Though both froggies are definitely cute to me, no doubt about that!

Goodness, I've turned today into frog day XD

Back to my process...

So here I have my trademark stained paper and I think I'll keep this technique even after inktober is done and finished because I love how easy it is to see everything through stained paper. Then I have a rough sketch there and mind you, I stained the paper in the morning then did groceries for the day before sketching my toad. So I'm a little tired already and it's only noon for me XD

Then I started penning in the base orange and green cuz I wanted a little cozy garden feel and it is autumn so might as well go for that vibe

Then I worked in the brown from my new pen set and I absolutely love this pen set (if I haven't already mentioned that yesterday XD because it's just so damn smooth ;;A;; and I need more quality pens like this in my life). I also used a viloet and bllue pen for the shadows in the green background so as to not make it so dark and it's a good aplication of color theory right there UwU

This was when I was starting to highlight stuff and I was pretty sure the patterns and the highlights needed to be done at the same time because that skin texture is so hard to balance out even when I use an orange highlighter to make the white gel pen fade out a little more.

Though I'm really proud with how this toad came out because it looks pretty realistic and it looks like it's just sitting peacefully over that mushroom and I love it!

That concludes my day 8!

I hope you guys liked that little bonuse froggy I added there, I think it was a nice comparison of skills with then versus how I can draw now... but that was on digital and this is traditional but still... idk it's nice to have something to look back on.
I will be seeing you guys tomorrow! I have to go dress hunting because I have a halloween party to attend to on friday the 13th! I hope to dress up as my beloved wednesday addams!

You get to kiss the frog/toad and see what happens! Maybe transformed into a princess/prince. Nice painting!
