Hushe school - Women in Pakistan

Coming back from Baltoro (Karakorum, Pakistan), we arrived at the first village after wild regions, one of the most remote and highest village in the north of Pakistan.
Here people have a simple life, living in houses made of stones and wood, cultivating mainly wheat fields and apricot trees.

We were guests in the main school, and teachers were happy with our visit.
They offered to us apricots, biscuits and chai (tea with milk), and they took us to visit the school.

Boys and girls are studying in the same rooms.
I could take pictures at the girls, but only while they were reading.
They were a bit shy, and also curios about where Italy is located, so teacher explained to them same of characteristics of my country.

This school has been visited by Greg Mortenson, an American that has worked a lot to build school in these regions. He has written a famous book, title is 'Three cups of tea'. The title is inspired by Haji Ali words: "The first time you share tea with a Balti, you are a stranger. The second time you take tea, you are an honored guest. The third time you share a cup of tea, you become family..."

We talked about women situation (in this village and in general in Pakistan) and teachers said to me that Maometto wished the same rights for men and women, so women should be helped to emancipate from men and from the jobs they are used to do: cooking, growing children and working in fields.

Exiting, I said to schoolchildren to study to be free!
