As a philatelist during the existence of the USSR, I often had to be surprised by those or other postage stamps that depicted plants or animals.

Some copies, as it seemed to me, were from another, beyond the world, but, in view of the fact that the territory of the USSR was huge, it was necessary to take into account that species living from the Arctic Circle to the subtropics could get on postage stamps.

But, it was difficult to fit in my head, especially when you walk many kilometers through flowering meadows, but you don’t find the flower you are looking for.

I found out about the flower that we see on a postage stamp with a face value of 15 kopecks of the USSR, which is part of the Flowers series of postage stamps issued in the USSR in 1983, when I came to work with my mother, it was a design bureau, and on cabinets, everywhere , there were pots with various plants, including flowering Cyclamen (Cyclamen elegans).

Since then, I thought that this is a newcomer from the Mediterranean, which can only grow indoors, but as it turned out, this was a mistake, these plants grew in the southern part of the USSR in the Stavropol Territory.

Cyclamen looks very unusual and looks a bit like an orchid. In those days, none of the citizens of the USSR, except for those who were allowed to get into the tropics, saw orchids.

This is the last postage stamp from this series, which is in my collection, I have to complete the series with two postage stamps.
