Chilly Saturday Morning Walk In The Yard with Molly

Just here chilling, on a chilly morning in good old South Jersey

Waiting on Molly to finish her morning breakfast why I brew a fresh cup of coffee. I’m planning my day in my head while she finishes the last few bits of kibble and chicken. I think I’ll mow the lawn today and get that out-of-the-way, but it’s still a bit damp yet and needs to dry out before that happens. I get frustrated if i mow wet grass. It just clogs the mower deck.

Oh there we go fresh cup of coffee in hand, and just waiting on Molly.

Looks like she’s just about done eating, although her head is buried in that bowl! She needs to get every last bit since it’s so tasty.

Looks like she’s all done so let’s head outside and see what’s going on in the garden. Molly has to take care of business if you know what I mean so let’s kill some time checking some things out. I may need to work on this garden a little bit today as well cleaning things up and getting rid of some of the old vegetable plants. Things are starting to go the other way As the days get shorter and the nights start to get colder.

It’s chilly out here this morning, registering a cool 52°F on the thermometer. 52 feels pretty chilly when you’re used to 80° To 90° weather in the past few weeks. It’s refreshing though. You can see the water vapor steaming off my cup of coffee into the morning sun.

Molly heads one way as I head the other. She’s hunting out a good place to depositing her number two and I’m heading toward the garden to check out what’s going on.

Looks like the garden, as I said, is heading the other way. I haven’t picked anything out of it for a week or so. I may be able to get a few more string beans out of there before the plants are completely done producing. There are several watermelon there in the foreground, but they didn’t taste that great and they were loaded with seeds this year. A Disappointment, so they can sit there and rot away.

String beans may be able to be salvaged, watermelon sucks, tomato plant didn’t do that great, peppers were plentiful but you can only so many of those, and the squash have been done for a while.

I take a second and take a look around the yard trying to locate Molly. She’s a small dog so she gets lost in the vastness of the backyard. I want to keep an eye on her in case there’s a bird of prey close by or something else that could harm her. Otherwise she typically goes to the same places and stays within the confines or borders of the yard.

Holy cow Molly! She is way over there today. I guess she is curious about what’s going on closer to the neighbors yard. She also likes them, so she’s always eyeing up their back door or their yard to see if they’re out so she can run over to say hello.

It’s kind of hard to see her over there. I’ll zoom in a little so you can see her. There she is!

Well she seems content, so I’m gonna continue checking out the garden. Looks like that pineapple plants survived and is doing well. Here it is, easier to see now that some of the watermelon vines have died off. I need to transplant this plant into a pot of its own and bring it in soon. I want to do this before The temperatures dip too low and frost is a possibility. So maybe today that will get done.

I had to set my coffee cup down to get a good shot, so may as well include it in one of the pictures. And yes it’s black coffee. The only way to drink it! Ha ha ha.

Oh, look who’s done going PooPoo. Molly! She’s come over to join me and looks like an absolute mess. She is wet as can be from the heavy dew that was on the grass this morning. She’s a short legged dog, so as she runs along the grass she picks up every little bit of water. Her fur is like a sponge too. Oh well, I keep a towel by the back door and will wipe her dry before she heads indoors.

She’s not sure what I’m doing here in the garden, so she would rather take a more defensive stand. She takes a position behind me just in case one of the vegetables leaps out at her.

C84BE0A5-3C63-4CF5-A77F-56BE14A30F83.jpeg

Looks like she’s ready to head indoors and I’m done poking around here. I’ll go ahead and take her inside, get her dried off, cleaned up, and what not. After that I think I’ll take a walk back to the lake.

3EAB3748-64C2-4433-983A-6FBA69DBDA4C.jpeg

Molly’s fixed up and Start my stroll out to the lake, which is about 250 feet from the back door. Not a bad walk at all.

The water is extremely calm. I don’t feel any sort of breeze at all out here. Heck, I don’t even see any ducks or geese swimming around. They tend to make ripples on the surface of the water. I expected to find at least one or two fishermen too. Not a single one and the fish are jumping. I caught several bass jumping along the edge. Looked to be some decent sized fish jumping. Look at that surface.. looks like a mirror image on that water.

Things are starting to heat up out here. The sunshine is warm and the coffee is almost gone. I think I’ll head inside and prepare for mowing. I better get started on that before the day is a wash.

May I ask why the watermelon went bad please? Who/what is to blame, is it the weather or you missed out doing something important to it.
In addition you haven't been picking the tomatoes and some are rotten away from the picture...
You don't want a good harvest?
Such a beautiful photograph of the lake, the environment looks divine, I enjoyed watching and would appreciate this for a wall paper 😊

The tomatoes never turned out very good. They all split open. I salvaged a few of them here and there, but overall not very tasty either. Very bitter. Not sure what happened this year.

Thank you for the kind words 😁

Shih tzus have low clearance lol , my dogs get so dirty on our not so clean roads.
They collect grass seeds and other stuff on their coats.
Grooming them is a pain.
Molly seems quite happy walking on the dewy grass..
Zoe just wont move if she see it has rained at night or there is a lot of dew on the grass.
She won't do her job as well if the place doesn't meet her quality checks.. on some days she is a a huge pain in the behind.

hahah.. Diva Zoe. lol. Molly doesn't like the rain, but will bear it anyhow. The towel thing works well for us and sometimes we have to comb out the grass and leaves. Long haired dogs are a pain, but I wouldn't trade it for the world. I like it better then shedding dogs for sure.

Same here I wouldn't trade these little guys for any other in the world.. they are family.

Looks like it was a nice morning walk! I never have too much luck with peppers. I wish I did because we eat them pretty much every meal. I have been really happy that the temps are finally dropping down and things aren't quite so thick in the air. It has been refreshing.

Yeah, I am a fan of the seasons. I think it is good that I live where I do. Just about the time you get too cold it starts warming up. Same holds true in the summer. I didn't realize you had a lake back there too! I am a bit jealous now!

I hear ya. Me too. glad to live close to the beach and relatively close to the mountains. Cold and hot. all good to me, but as I get older that could change.

Yes, it's a private lake owned by everyone who lives around it, so it's rather quiet most days. No gas motors, just electric trolling motors or canoes or kayaks that kind of thing. Keeps everything clean too. The one thing I hate.. I could seriously hurt the person who put carp in there. Those things are nasty good for nothing fish. And they are HUGE beastly things.

Ah, that sucks about the carp. We have been having some issues with Asian carp near where I live. What kind of fish are in there? I saw you mentioned bass. Any perch or panfish? I bought my license but didn't get out fishing at all this summer.

Perch, crappy, bluegills, small and large mouth bass and the carp. My neighbor a few houses down showed me a photo of what he said was a rainbow trout that he caught a while back. Looked almost like a lake trout, but did have the stripe down the middle like a rainbow. Water is about 200+ feet in a couple of areas, so it's possible. The bald eagles have a hay day back there. We see them from time to time hunting. Watch out Molly! no kidding either. We have to watch her and them. lol.

Oh wow! That is really awesome. That is my dream to live on a lake like that someday. I'd be fishing non stop. Even in the winter on the ice!

I used to go out and fish a bunch, then got tied up with a ton of other stuff. Sold my Old Towne canoe just a year or so ago. A nice family bought it and they were going to go camping with it. It was an awesome canoe that I had for many many years. Hated to see it go, but didn't like that it was just hanging in the garage collecting dust. It deserved to be used and appreciated by a family like that.

Your more than welcome to come down and fish. My neighbor has a nice bass boat if I ever get the hankering to fish and drink beers. 😁

My buddy has a pontoon but most of the inland lakes around here are gone so he is thinking about selling it. I want to get a fishing kayak sometime. Old Towne canoes are nice!

Molly is so cute, afraid of the melon. Our Choco used to be afraid of coconuts. But then coconuts could be really dangerous. They fall from the tree and could kill little creatures like her, my mother in law used to threaten her with coconuts.
She run at tae sight of coconuts.

cuteness maximus as usual. :)

She’s a short legged dog, so as she runs along the grass she picks up every little bit of water.

This is a rather irritating feature of Nadi as well. I don't know how she manages to pick up every single drop of water on the street during our walks without ever sitting down but she does it somehow. It's magic!
