Missing My Coffee

I Went And Got Sick ..

I’m rounding out about two weeks now since I had gotten COVID-19. I’ve been reading things stating that everyone will eventually get COVID-19 in one form or another. Well my ticket was pulled around Thanksgiving and I became ill. Both my wife and I and a few other family members came down with it. Luckily both my wife and I fared decently through the illness. My symptoms we’re basically those of a mild flu. We have been quite blessed as compared with others that have fallen ill.

I got the aches, chills, the stuffy nose and overall grogginess. I also lost my sense of taste and smell which is absolutely killing me. I am going on two weeks without any taste or smell. It really makes me appreciate what I once had.. All my senses. One thing in particular besides my beer and whiskey, that I miss, is COFFEE! Oh how I miss my morning coffee! My afternoon coffee! My any time of the day coffee! I just simply miss it's comfort, not just the warm nutty taste of it. There is a sense of comfort and warmth that is derived by sipping on a nice hot cup of coffee.

So, while browsing a few photos stored on my computer today, I came across this photo of a piece of artwork I created called 'Glorious First Cup'. It’s a depiction of a mug of coffee, preferably the first cup of the morning, sitting on the table. Rays of gloriousness shine out from the sides and top of the mug. There’s also a hint of steam coming off the coffee surface. I painted in a light bluish green background to make the mug pop off of the canvas. I tried to keep this painting sort of abstract in nature. I definitely think it’s realistic yet abstract. Then again, I’m not so great at art styles.

I wanted to share this 'Glorious First Cup' painting because I am missing the taste and smell of coffee that much. This oil painting helps make me feel good , in the way having the real thing could do. I tried making a cup this morning, when I got to work, but it was a fail. As soon as I brought it to my nose I could not smell anything. As soon as I tasted it, it just tasted like water. Warm water! Yuck!!! I poured it down the drain. Good bye tasteless coffee! Good bye.

Oh how I miss my coffee. Will I ever be able to taste and smell coffee again? I think so, but the question is actually WHEN?! They say it could take some time for the two senses to return. And before you ask, I did try the things on the web that have helped some people.. like grilling oranges and eating sour or spicy things. No luck yet.

I can’t wait till I can smell and taste coffee again! This is killing me!!!!!! Lol.

Jeez didn't know. Glad you guys are doing as well as can be. I hope your senses come back soon. I totally get your coffee dilemma. And not only that. Jeezzzz...lil Molly must have been worried.

Sending both of you the best thoughts! 🤗

Awww.. Thank you. It was like a mild flu, so we are good. Still have some lingering stuff going on, but nothing that shouldn't pass with time. Molly actually enjoyed that we were both home and not working. She was in for a real shock when back to work days rolled around!

My sense of smell is really piss poor especially compared to my wife's, one thing that seems to have helped it a little bit is I recently started having some tonic water in the morning, and now I add it to my bottled water just for the slight bitter taste, about one ounce for every ten, I don't know if it will help, but it has helped me cut down on coffee some, and drink more water.

I have tried a bunch of stuff, so I'll try this suggestion as well. I have a big bottle of tonic (for gin and tonics) in the fridge.. I'll give it a go. Thank you! I am definitely drinking more H2O these days.

That sucks man glad you and the wife are getting better. My buddy lost his taste and smell. I’m sure everyone is different but it took him almost six months to get it back.

Oh my gosh.. Six Months?! I hope not. Going on three weeks, so if that's the case I have a long way to go. lol. Thanks for the reply! 😁

I hope not for your sake. He still has issues with subtle flavors. Let’s hope that’s not the same for you.

Have you not vaccinated against covid?

Yes, I agree, we get used to everything and, having lost, we begin to appreciate!

You will be fine, so I wish you enjoy your coffee as soon as possible!

Health to all your family!

No.. We have faith in our own immune system. We faired very well with this Covid infection. Actually others I know, who got the injection (all three), still ended up in the hospital with severe symptoms. I just think everyone's systems are a bit different. The Vaccinations don't prevent you from getting it, but are supposed to help keep one out of the hospital.

Thank you for the reply and I can't wait to taste that first cup!

It's been close to a year that my niece had it and I still don't think her sense of taste and smell are back to normal. At least that is what I remember her saying. My wife and I have been pretty lucky that we haven't gotten it yet. That we know of anyway. We are all vaccinated and boostered, so I am not too worried about it if we do happen to get it.

Yeah, you really do have to trust your health history. We felt comfortable enough to not get the vaccination. I didn't fair too bad.. was like a bad cold or light flu. But if I had a history of rough health, I would be first in line for the shot. The lack of smell and taste is annoying.

We were mostly swayed by the fact that we work in public education. The past instance of cancer was probably a good prompt too.

Can't imagine how hard it would have been to have gotten covid,I hope you are gradually getting better.
