The Beauty of Fog

Once Upon A Foggy Day ..

Last Friday, our region experienced a delightful snowfall, blanketing everything in a layer of 5-8 inches of pristine white. As if that weren't enchanting enough, a deep freeze followed, creating a winter wonderland that now, as temperatures rise above freezing, begins to transform into a mystical scene.

The thaw brings with it the inevitable fog, slowing down our drives and adding a touch of magic to the rural country where we reside. Driving through this ethereal fog might make the journey a bit slower and trickier, but it also unveils a hidden beauty that may go unnoticed in clearer conditions.

Living in a rural area, I frequently traverse the same route. However, with the arrival of the fog, everything takes on a new perspective. The softening effect of the fog blurs the hard edges of the landscape, turning it into a scene straight out of a movie. Today, I couldn't help but notice the true beauty along my daily path.

In an attempt to share this unexpected beauty, I decided to capture a few moments through the lens of my iPhone. I chose to present these photographs in black and white, except for one intentionally left in color. The red barn in that particular shot had a unique charm that I couldn't bring myself to edit, standing out against the white-washed surroundings.

These snapshots showcase the captivating transformation of our everyday surroundings into a winter wonderland, highlighting the delicate dance between snow, fog, and nature. As the temperatures rise, and the fog dissipates, these moments become fleeting treasures, reminding us to appreciate the simple yet extraordinary beauty that nature gifts us, even on the most ordinary days.

Wonderful witnessing the fog moving between the region, changes perspective of region you obviously know like the back of your hand, seeing it through 'new eyes'.

Yes, I like seeing things from a different perspective. I guess that's the artist in me creeping out a little. Lol.

Nature presents itself so differently all the time, definitely the artist and nature lover angle shows through.

It is quite beautiful! We are experiencing the same phenomenon here, but it's usually dark when I have to go into work and the temps are low enough in the morning that everything is icy. The drive in hasn't been very fun the past couple of days! We were the only district in our county that didn't close yesterday!

Wow. That's always fun when you have to go in and everybody else is sitting home enjoying their time off. Lol. I don't mind the fog or wet roads but I don't like black ice. I hate when it's below freezing and there's a fog creating that bad situation.

Yeah, I have driven across the state in freezing fog before and it was the craziest thing. Usually even when our district is closed I still have to drive into work. This week on Tuesday I stayed home with @mrsbozz though. They are probably going to dock me a PTO day for it!

Those bums. May you'll get lucky and they won't. You needed that mental health day! 😁

Some great pictures, snow and fog are beautiful. I just don't like the cold part of the equation as much as I used to!

A Winter wonderland it is! Your capture of all these photos along your way shows that we are surrounded by very pleasant things if only we can open our hearts to 'see'. Thank you for sharing.

Black and white photography lends itself for capturing moods. You really caught the spookiness of the fog.

Was it freezing fog?

Thanks! 😁
No it was just the normal fog. When I took the photos it was roughly 45F or 8C. Warm for winters around here. It’s been up and down this year. El Niño in effect 🙃

It was super cold a day earlier, then the warm front moved through raising temps up above freezing.

It's getting very cold here today and we're seeing that as night falls, the weather gets much colder and driving at night is very difficult.

Oh fun fun. Where do you live? You may have told me but I can not remember. The older I get the less I like the cold.
