BOLONIA: UNA CIUDAD MONUMENTAL
Saludos, amigos lectores, con este artículo quiero compartirles un viaje que tuve la oportunidad de realizar a la ciudad italiana de Bolonia. ¿La conoces? Es una ciudad realmente impresionante por su monumentalidad. Parece una ciudad construida por gigantes, en ella todo tiene grandes proporciones: sus torres mendievales, sus famosos portici (pórticos) renacentistas, bellamente decorados, que atraviesan la mayor parte de la zona histórica. Mi compañero y yo fuimos invitados a un evento literario en la ciudad de Fidenza y decidimos aprovechar el viaje para visitar algunas ciudades del norte de Italia, entre ellas Bolonia. Es famosa por diversas razones: su universidad, la más antigua de Occidente; su gastronomía, es la cuna de la salsa boloñesa, los tortellini, la mortadela y especialmente por sus pórticos y su zona histórica. Acompáñame a visitarla. Te compartiré algunos rincones importantes que pude ver.
Algunos datos históricos sobre Bolonia
Ubicada en el norte de Italia, en la región de Emilia-Romaña, cerca de los Apeninos. Es una de las ciudades históricas europeas mejor conservadas y posee el segundo casco antiguo medieval más grande de Europa, después del de Venecia. Tuve la oportunidad de visitar el Museo Medieval de Bolonia, que posee una colección extraordinaria de objetos, desde pequeños objetos hasta armaduras y lanzas, pero dedicaré un artículo específico a esa visita. La historia de Bolonia se remonta a muchos siglos antes de la Edad Media, fue fundada por los etruscos con el nombre de “Felsina”. Posteriormente, los romanos le dan el nombre de Bononia, ya entonces se la llamó “Bononia la docta”. En esa ciudad se produjo la famosa reunión que dio como resultado el Segundo Triunvirato de la República Romana que conformaron Octavio, Marco Antonio y Marco Emilio Lépido.
La Universidad de Bolonia fue fundada en el año 1088. La Carta o Estatutos de Bolonia, redactados en 1245, se consideran el documento masónico original más antiguo conocido. Durante el Renacimiento la ciudad fue un centro cultural muy importante, pero así también un centro de comercio fundamental, gracias a sus canales, que hoy están soterrados. También se le conoce en la época contemporánea como un centro del movimiento obrero italiano y europeo. Los Portici

Las torres
Junto con los pórticos, las torres Asinelli y Garisenda son los grandes emblemas de la ciudad. Su gran altura impresiona de día, pero aún más en la noche, cuando es iluminada en un color rojizo que le da una visión feérica. Estas inmensas torres fueron construidas durante los siglos XII y XIII, por dos importantes familias rivales de la ciudad, para demostrar su poder. La familia Asinelli, construyó la suya entre 1109 y 1119, la familia Garisenda construyó su torre en la misma época, alrededor de 1110. No son las únicas torres que hay en la ciudad, pero son las más altas. Algunas otras que fueron construidas para la defensa de la ciudad, fueron derribadas al pasar el tiempo. La Piazza Maggiore (Plaza Mayor) es el centro neurálgico de la zona histórica de Bolonia. Recuerdo que cuando estábamos buscando cualquier lugar o monumento pasamos invariablemente por allí para llegar a nuestro destino. Allí está la sede de la Comuna y la basílica de San Petronio, una de las iglesias más importantes de la ciudad, después de la catedral y la bella estatua dedicada a Neptuno, el dios romano del mar. Es una de las estatuas más bonitas que he visto. La plaza se construyó en el siglo XIII, cuando la ciudad, que estaba creciendo, necesitaba un espacio para el Mercado. Allí se encuentran varios palacios; quizá el más importante, ubicado al oeste, es el Palazzo d'Accursio (o Comunale), donde actualmente se encuentra la cede de las autoridades municipales, construido en el siglo XIV, lo puedes ubicar por el reloj que adorna su torre; en su patio vimos un espacio contra la violencia doméstica, un problema que tristemente causa maltrato y muerte en Italia y muchos otros países.

Luego de visitar la plaza Maggiore bajamos a conocer la catedral de Bolonia, un bello edificio, monumental, por supuesto. Comparto un par de fotos del interior. Esta catedral ubicada en el centro de la ciudad, no es llamativa en su fachada exterior. Pero en su interior es muy bella, es impresionante

Bolonia al anochecer
Al caer la noche las ciudades cambian, cobran un color y una vitalidad que las hace distintas. Aunque no soy noctámbula, y no me gusta estar hasta las altas horas en la calle, sí que me gusta, caminar por las ciudades que visito al anochecer. Mientras caminamos buscando un sitio para cenar, y luego de haber comido, recorrimos algunas de las pequeñas calles de la ciudad histórica. Vimos mercados de fruta y verdura aún abiertos, pasamos por las fachadas de algunos de los innumerables palacios que hay en la ciudad, recorrimos los "portici", algunos con bellas decoraciones de Navidad, y también pudimos ver un extraño fenómeno, que al parecer fue una aurora boreal. Estábamos observando la fachada de una iglesia y de pronto el cielo tomo un color rosado fucsia, que nos llamó mucho la atención. Era un tono fuerte, que desapareció, y luego volvió a aparecer, varias veces. Este fenómeno no es algo habitual. No era el cielo fucsia al atardecer. Ya era de noche, el cielo estaba oscuro y en un punto preciso apareció esta luz fucsia. No había un espectáculo de luces y música cerca. Some historical facts about Bologna
Located in northern Italy, in the Emilia-Romagna region, near the Apennines. It is one of the best-preserved historic European cities and has the second largest medieval old town in Europe, after Venice. The Asinelli family built theirs between 1109 and 1119, while the Garisenda family built their tower around the same time, around 1110. They are not the only towers in the city, but they are the tallest. Some others that were built for the defense of the city were demolished over time. There were once more than 100 towers. Piazza Maggiore (Main Square) is the nerve center of Bologna's historic district. I remember that when we were looking for any place or monument, we invariably passed through there to reach our destination. There you will find the seat of the Commune and the Basilica of San Petronio, one of the most important churches in the city after the cathedral, and the beautiful statue dedicated to Neptune, the Roman god of the sea. It is one of the most beautiful statues I have ever seen. The square was built in the 13th century, when the growing city needed a space for the market. There are several palaces there; perhaps the most important, located to the west, is the Palazzo d'Accursio (or Comunale), where the municipal authorities are currently based. Built in the 14th century, you can spot it by the clock that adorns its tower. In its courtyard, we saw a space dedicated to combating domestic violence, a problem that sadly causes abuse and death in Italy and many other countries.

We saw fruit and vegetable markets still open, passed by the facades of some of the countless palaces in the city, walked through the porticos, some with beautiful Christmas decorations, and also saw a strange phenomenon, which appeared to be the northern lights. We were looking at the facade of a church when suddenly the sky turned a fuchsia pink color, which caught our attention. It was a strong hue that disappeared and then reappeared several times. This phenomenon is not common. It was not the fuchsia sky at sunset. It was already nighttime, the sky was dark, and at a specific point, this fuchsia light appeared.
