One of my favorite places : "la cumbre" hotel
This structure was built on an immense summit in the middle of the City (like everything in my City) in the 60s.
It was closed for many years until a long time ago, in 2009 or so, they opened it to the public again. Being there is like being in another country: it is totally surrounded by vegetation of all kinds, both native and trees, flowers and shrubs brought from other countries.
It is built of wood, and decorated with many recycled details which fascinates me!
For me it is not so easy to get there but it is not impossible either: you go up by car (it is a steep summit) and the entrance does not have many stairs.
Once inside, the first thing you see is the super spacious bar-dining area from where you can see the entire historic center of the City, and immediately the row of rooms. Now yes, down the stairs is the pool, beautiful, and around it there are areas to grill or stew or simply enjoy drinking and eating something that is ordered from the restaurant.
While taking these photos, a small "rabipelado" (a type of small squirrel) passed by me but I didn't have time to take some photos! All kinds of birds, iguanas and wildlife appear there and the owners are very careful in warn about it, for example there is a place that is my favorite to be, but it was closed to the public for renovations, that is a constant in this place, they are always changing and repairing the wood. Obviously the base of the hotel is concrete, I understand that a German architect was in charge of that, but the building is 60% wood.
You see here in Venezuela houses or places are not built with that type of material, the custom here is cement, concrete, marble, granite and very durable materials. So that's why this place looks like something out of a catalogue.
It makes me very nostalgic because I used to come with my brothers when they just opened it and then with my husband when we weren't parents yet. Well, today I am here with my grandchildren and great-grandson! If you come to Ciudad Bolívar, Venezuela, be sure to visit this place, yes... The singing of the crickets is the lullaby at night, so only for true adventurers!
