A Woman's Worth

( EN / DE ) This Threetunes Tuesday, I'd like to focus entirely on tomorrow's World Women's Day (March 8, 2023).

It is really unbelievable that in the 21st century we are still so far away from full equality for women in society.
Over a hundred years ago, on 19.03.1911 Clara Zetkin has brought this day into being. At that time, the main issue was the right to vote for women. This and many other things, such as self-determination at work, have now become normal of course for us Europeans. Nevertheless, there are still things - even in good old Europe - that cry out to heaven. Not to mention other countries on this earth where women are even further away from being able to lead a self-determined, free and happy life.

Therefore, let us (not only on this day) stand up for the fact that ALL people are equal and always respect the value of a woman, a child, a man, a human being.

But it is also a lot to do with us women ourselves, starting with the way we behave, we often still believe we have to please, we have misinterpreted emancipation by believing we have to stand our ground instead of really being ourselves, and it goes to the point of how we raise our daughters and sons.

What song could say all this better than the following! Here is the version from the movie "The First Wives Club" .
Goldie Hawn, Diane Keaton and Bette Midler in top form. You don't know the movie? Great recommendation girls!

Welcher Song könnte all dies besser aussagen, als der folgende! Hier die Version aus dem Film "Der Club der Teufelinnen" .
Goldie Hawn, Diane Keaton und Bette Midler in Höchstform. Ihr kennt den Film nicht? Große Empfehlung Mädels!

It cannot be that one person considers the other as his property - YOU DONT OWN ME!
Niemals darf es sein, dass ein Mensch den anderen als sein Eigentum betrachtet - YOU DONT OWN ME!

Changing the world means first and foremost changing one's own environment. To look instead of looking away and to help where injustice happens to the best of our ability to make it better.

In this sense, I wish all ladies and gentlemen here a great International Women's Day and hope you liked my contribution to this Threetunestuesday hosted by @ablaze :-) Yours B.

In the next century, we may come close to this equality, but we may not have achieved it...

Great post @beeber and ideal for International Women's day, the world has come a long way in most Western countries at least. The situation in other countries is atrocious and it is hard to believe in this day and age.

There is a secondary issue here though around the way the world portrays men in a negative light these days and I understand it is not easy to be a woman or a girl in this world, but it is no picnic being a man or a boy either. Indeed it is more and more difficult for kids (both male and female and other) to navigate the new world with all of its nuance and contradiction.

We need to be careful not to push blame onto the male population, especially young boys. Men and women are fundamentally different and often aspire to different things and are better at different things purely from a Physicality perspective and emotional perspective, we are just wired differently. Of course there are exceptions and I know men who have feminine characteristics and women who have male characteristics, but in my experience, that is the minority.

Young suicide is a tragic subject, and heart breaking for any family, and I have seen it first hand in Ireland losing 3 friends in their late teens (all male) and know 4 others from my small city (all male)

The graph below looks at a few countries suicide rates by gender, light grey is women, Dark grey is men. For every country there are significantly more men dying by their own hand? Why is that?

We need to be very mindful of the language we use around this subject and the message we convey to our sons, nephews etc. Of course we need to improve things for women in lots of countries, but I think in Europe, things are pretty equal now, unless I am missing something? So buzzwords like "Toxic Male Masculinity" is unhelpful in my opinion. As I say the language used is very important. If you want to change someone's behaviour, continually calling it/them toxic is not helpful.
