Born to be Alive - Music and Thoughts

avatar

( EN / DE ) Recently I became aware of a "number" via a tweet, it was about the "International Day for the Prevention of Suicide" (September 10). This number actually startled me, because I was not aware that....

Every 40 seconds one person on this earth takes their own life.

Somehow I couldn't quite believe it, but my own research confirmed it. On average, it happens again every 40 seconds.
Scary, isn't it? And while you were reading this, there were already two more....
About 700,000 - 800,000 people leave this planet every year by committing suicide. The numbers are highest in a few countries where people are doing very badly economically, politically or socially.

source

On Wikipedia you can find a list of countries, but it can be assumed that some countries, especially in the Arab or African region, are not so accurate with the records of the numbers.

Now I don't want to go into that at all, because in fact there are studies that are supposed to say that reports of suicide can lead to a kind of copy effect. Well and I don't want that in any case, so my thought to this topic was to make myself on the search for music, which dedicates itself to the topic ALIVE - to be alive. So I wish you a good time with the songs.

Pearl Jam - Alive (Official Video):

A wonderful peace of sound for me is this one, Jonathan Roy - Keeping Me Alive (Live Acoustic Performance):

Fantastic and very best cover of the old Bee Gees Song Staying Alive, a gem of music to my ears, Free Ride - Stayin' Alive (Bee Gees Live Cover):

Jennifer Lopez - Alive (Official Video):

Dont get too sleepy ;-) here is another one to wake you up, P.O.D. - Alive (Official Music Video) [4K]

Meanwhile an oldie and "title giver" for this post, dancing this must make you feel alive ;-) Patrick Hernandez - Born to Be Alive:

This was a small attempt to stop making the subject of suicide taboo and start talking about it. Maybe we can save the one or other life together if we are just a little more mindful in our dealings with each other? I don't know, but it's worth a try, isn't it? And one thing is certain, everything will pass and life is worth living.

Last but not least, no music, but a really good definition of "to be alive" by Sadhguru:
Zuletzt keine Musik, aber eine wirklich gute Definition von "to be alive" von Sadhguru:

It is a terrible thing and something very difficult to talk about.

Very difficult, even to write about felt strange. I wonder why it is really such a big tabu.
Maybe because "normal society" the "normal" way to be is attaced and questioned?

I think because if it was to be addressed, then we would start to question the elephant in the room which is not what those in power want, and they are the ones propagating the psychological games on people. ie that we are insignificant, just space dust, life has no meaning or purpose etc..

Yes we would have to rethink our faster, bigger, more at any prize society.
Really happy people are hard to manipulate I guess.

What a scary fact. I hope music can help reduce this alarming number.

Some great tracks there @beeber. When you break annual numbers down into minutes and seconds, it makes them so much more 'real' in many ways. I once looked at infant deaths from Dysentry in the world, it came out as one child dying every couple of minutes due to something as simple as not having access to clean water.
So much tragedy and so much we have to be thankful for.

I hope you're well and send my best wishes :-)

Just found this, guess you will find it interesing too: https://www.worldometers.info/
Those numbers... made me think a lot.
Every 4 seconds a Baby is born, we are getting much too much for this planet. Frightening are the numbers for land and forest losses. I mean, those are HECTARS! And while you look at it... another hectar forest lost, and another one... crazy.
This will give me time to think about for days, maybe input for another posting.
But, I am well, thank you and I hope you are doing fine too?

I'm good and thanks for the link. I just read today we're approaching 8 billion! It only seems a couple of years ago we hit 7 billion. Frightening!
