All Saints Day is the day when we remember our deceased, visit the graves and honor their memory. So this ThreeTunesTuesday is also a quiet, reflective one, dedicated to this very theme.

A song from 1986 by the Styrian / Graz band STS, which always touches me deeply, the lyrics reflect in so many ways my own grandfather. And there were many moments when this song brought tears to my eyes.

Here is a version with English subtitles and also German lyrics, for those who may not quite understand the Austrian dielekt ;-)

You were not a superhuman, did not pretend to be either
That's why there was a power somewhere
Your principle was:
First think, have an opinion, stand behind it,
never violence! Discuss everything,
but also don't be afraid of anyone

Grandfather. Can't you come down for a quick coffee?

edit: sorry, the english subtitles - for whatever reason - can only be seen if you open this video in youtube:

STS - Großvater (english subtitles)

Christina Stürmer - Du fehlst hier / You are missing here

Christina Stürmer is an Austrian artist who became famous in 2003 like an exceptional starlet after a talent show in Austria, and it is impossible to imagine Austrian music without her.

"You are missing here" is a very melancholic song about the time that passes after a loss and what remains behind, here I have translated parts of the lyrics for you:*

Like every year when the leaves fall
we come together and we toast to you

one eye laughs, one eye cries
like a film the memories pass me by
I miss you, you are missed here
I think back, there was so much warmth, so much light
so much love in your eyes...

Christina Stürmer - Du fehlst hier

Andreas Gabalier - Amoi segn ma uns wieda / One day we'll see each other again

A Graz native musician who combines traditional folk music elements very nicely with modern sounds. This song has really become an anthem here in recent years for all those who have to mourn a loss.

With "Amoi segn ma uns wieder" he really created a masterpiece and I think it's mainly because this song came out of a very personal story of the artist. Through suicide he had lost his father and sister in 2006 and 2008, to them he also dedicated this song, wich was important in making him so famous.

I am so happy that I found a version with English subtitles, maybe then you can understand and feel the power of this song:

Andreas Gabalier - Amoi segn ma uns wieda (english subtitles)

It is unfortunately still the case that there are so many good Austrian and especially Styrian musicians, but they hardly have a chance to become known and successful. But he succeeded and we Grazers are proud of him!

This were my 3 tunes dedicated to All Saints Day for #threetunestuesday by @ablaze and of course I hope you enjoyed listening :-) Yours, B.

Excellent stuff, it's great to hear some Austrian music that I have never heard before, that's what #ttt is all about. For the first song, I was singing the start of the chorus by the end, Großvater...... Großvater....... Großvater.......

The second one did not even need sub titles, the passion and message came through regardless of the language, really nice performance from Christina.

Andreas Gabalier's song to close out was powerful - "Amoi schau i a von obm zua"

It is unfortunately still the case that there are so many good Austrian and especially Styrian musicians, but they hardly have a chance to become known and successful. But he succeeded and we Grazers are proud of him!

That's a real pity, but great to see this guy breaking the mold.
