Age Is Just A Number

As people will always say, “Age is but a number”. You will only hear this statement when there is a situation in regards to age, either when two people are getting married and there is an age barrier, or when they are sharing properties and the youngest one has the smaller share. Either way I think when it comes to certain things Age is but a number.

In Nigeria, the legal age when one stops being a minor and is now an adult is 18 years. At 18 years you have the right to do several things. The right to drive, the right to vote, and be voted for. At 18 years you are seen as an adult. Well, with the way things are, people become adults even before 18 years. These days you can’t even tell a child’s age by looking at them, they grow so fast.

When I returned home and I saw my younger siblings I was so shocked they were so big but then they were just little by age. Looking at the legal age of being an adult which is 18 years, I think is not too soon or too late. 18 years, seems to be the perfect age to enter into adulthood and stop being a minor. Adulthood is a whole lot and I think we need time before going into it.

I will say 18 years is a perfect age because from 16 years most people already feel like adults and also from 20 years is when most people are allowed to be adults. So with 18 being between 16 and 20, I think that is just the right age for someone to leave being a minor to embrace the world of being an Adult, where you get the freedom and the responsibilities.

In the introduction of my post, I used the statement “Age is just a number”. When it comes to maturity and thinking, I feel age is just a number. Most people are almost 40 and then they do not behave mature at all. Their reasoning will make you wonder if this is an adult or a child.

Being a lecturer, introduced me to a world with different people with different personalities and perspectives. I have someone who is older by age but then behaves as if he leaves his brain at home and comes to school. Then I have someone who happens to be the youngest in my class and she behaves so maturely. They will always say “What an old man will see sitting down even if you climb the highest mountain you can not see”

Well, this is a word of wisdom but these days, you find out that what an old man can see sitting down, a young child can also see it and even see more. People are different, I think age is just a number when it comes to maturity. These days, you could see a child with a matured mentality. Most times we become matured at an early age either due to circumstances or even the things we read.

It's fascinating to see that how this explores the fluidity of age, particularly in the transition to the adulthood of any individual. The notion that maturity transcends chronological age is really thought-provoking.

Warris this naw lol

Experiences are what shape our lives and prepare us in every aspect of adulthood. So, yeah, age is just a number. Maturity can't be determined solely by one's age.

Exactly 😂
Some people are just older by number but not matured at all😂
They'll do somethings somethings and you'd just be like ah😂💀
You should never determine one's maturity by age.

That's a no no😂

Well, this perspective could only be applied to certain things for me not everything because there are some situations or circumstances I would consider ages to not be just a number.
I see people age yet their level of maturity doesn't match up with their ages and I am baffled at times.
And other times, some people's way of handling things, their mindset and way they are responsible make their ages very questionable.
So yeah, it's a number in some case but not in some case, my opinion

Life's events can be a factor that matures people quickly. It's a personality thing nothing about age.
The age only signifies the start of a new phase where the individual is responsible for himself and can be held accountable for his actions.

I agree with you on the points you brought out in this post. I have seen people at 40years who do not even exhibit the slightest sense of maturity. Truly age is just a number.

I see maturity as a thing of the mind because just like you said, some underaged behave and reason like adults while some so called adult's behavior is nothing close to adulthood.

The thing with maturity is experience not age.

People experience life differently and it is that experience that breeds maturity.

One can grow old without leaving the comfort of his environment, everything he knows is all boxed up and myopic. But then, you'd see a teenager who from childhood does not have it easy to remain comfortable.

The teenagers find themselves experiencing life from all ramifications which gives them the needed maturity over the one who has aged but did not go out to explore.
