More Than Love

Love is truly a beautiful thing, I think I feel love more when I see older people who have been married for a long time. I always pray I’m able to stay that long with my spouse because I always wonder how they do it, living with one person for the rest of your life.

I honestly don’t know how most couples do it but I find it nice and exciting to see couples who have been married for a very long time and I must say I am super proud of them and they are my biggest motivation when it comes to love.

There is no way I would be asked to find a couple that has been married for a long time and interview them, that I wouldn’t stop by Mr. and Mrs Iyaye’s doorstep. Well, those are my lovely parents. I am very happy to call them my parents. They teach me that love isn’t just fun and happiness but love is forgiveness, love is having issues and coming back, and love is several other things.

Well, they have been married for 27 years and had their 27th anniversary on 30th May, 2023. I thought for a second that my parents didn’t know their anniversary not until I spoke to them recently. Maybe that’s why they always call May their best month. I was wondering why that was their best month earlier cause neither they nor I and my siblings were born in May.

I spoke to them at length and asked my dad, what’s one funny moment he has had with my mom, he was happy to share it. He said, that before now, whenever he had an issue with my mom he didn’t eat her food and she still tried to prepare it regardless until he was ready to eat, he would do the same thing for days and later change his mind to eat the meal.

Well, he turned a new leaf when a certain period he was angry and decided to do the same thing, which is not eat her food. This time around she still prepared it and kept it. He said that night he couldn’t sleep as he was so hungry and his stomach made several sounds, he finally decided to put his pride aside, and then tapped my mom and said he was sorry and hungry. That was the last day he pulled that stunt as he thought he was gonna get sick due to hunger.

They also shared with me how they met at a friend’s party, and my dad decided to make the first move, well he had to cause my mom is a beauty. He said my mom acted a bit difficult at first but her friend was able to talk to her and then she finally agreed to be with him. I can’t help but smile as I write this.

My dad said his best memory was when he met my mom. While my mom claims that her best memory was when she started a family with my dad. Well, they both added that one of the best memories that they can’t let go of is when I and my siblings were born. I think my parents are the reason why I believe that true love exists because they show me every bit of it.

At first, I was a bit shy to ask my parents what were their advice if I decided to get married now, but I was able to put that aside and ask them. My dad took a deep breath before he said, “Just make sure you are happy with the person you choose no matter what” He also said, “Sorry is a magic word and it does wonders in marriage”. My mom also added, “Marriage is not always easy, there will be fights and arguments but it is sweet when you can reconcile immediately and not let it ruin everything”.

I would love to share their pictures but well they turned my request down. I am so happy I was able to hold this conversation with my parents.
After speaking with them, I got this tiny feeling of wanting to get married soon cause they were so adorable. My Parent's love story is truly encouraging and a true testimony that “Love still Exist”.
