Father-son conversation

I spent the last couple of hours talking with my dad and during the conversation, we talked about life. I often ask him difficult questions about his life and decisions, because I'm trying to gain insight into myself.

For as long as I can remember, my dad has been working, and even now that he's turning 70 this year, he still works. The intensity of work has dropped substantially, but that notwithstanding, he's been busy. I ask him questions about his decisions and if he's happy about how things turned out.

He's happy about his life and where it got him and considering where he started from, I'd say he did pretty well. He isn't one to delve into investment opportunities but he's a grafter and put in a good shift in the civil service.

For as long as I can remember, he has been my hero and while I disagree with many of his decisions, I can't fault him because he gave me a life filled with love and encouragement. He spent so many years in service, working for the man and trying to give his children the life he never had.

I'm grateful for all the effort he put into it and more so because it gave me the foundation to build on. It is the greatest gift I could never ask for and it was given to me on a platter

Feelings on a platter

So as I said, every time we're together, I like to pick his brains and gain a little insight about the man that's my dad. I ask him questions about his childhood, political views, parents that I never met, and most recently, his career.

So most recently, I said to him 'you dedicated 40 years of your life to service, did you work for money or was it something else?". I worked for money he replied and with a smirk on his face, he continued, "I did it so my children can be better than I am".

I know my dad enough to know that when it comes to business, he's not the most outgoing. In fact, he's not an outgoing guy, period. So that's why he held on to one job for nearly 40 years and hasn't taken a break since. He simply doesn't want to stress himself.

I said to him "what if I told you that my salary is as much as you earn today" and he replied, "that means I did a good job." That's the highest praise I've ever received in my life.

In the old days there was no such economic freedom as cryptocurrencies give you, in fact today many people don't believe it. Your father has done well, now it's your turn to reward him.
