Have I been paying the enemy?

Okay maybe I exaggerated a little with the title but it was a thought that came to me during a conversation with my cousin on WhatsApp. I was telling him how I intend to stop using centralised platforms for good in the long run and he thinks it's impossible. I then pointed at how I left Facebook and Instagram, and he said they're different but are they?

image.png

In light of WhatsApp's constant breach of my privacy, which I knew anyway, even if they didn't rub it in our faces with their policies they publish, I think my time on the app is slowly coming to an end.

I intend to temporarily move my activities to Telegram for the main time since it is kind of popular and also just uses phone numbers for chats.

I want my share

In pretty much the same way I felt about Facebook and being too easy to find, I find myself gravitating towards the same vibe with WhatsApp.

I generally don't enjoy using the software anymore and the only reason I even use it is because of @wolfofnostreet and my family members, which I could do with Telegram.

How I see it, using Whatsapp and generally any centralised platforms is enriching only the owners. I have nothing against them and don't want to take their money, I'm just more interested in getting my own piece of the pie.

This is why the future plans will be to delete me from Twitter, WhatsApp and later on, Google.

Google will of course be the hardest to dissociate from because they have me and billions of Android users by the balls. However, in due time, all will be sorted out.

The end game will be to move all my activities to Hive and other blockchain-based projects that give me part of the profit. Peakd has added the chat feature and while it is still a bit laggy, it is a step in the right direction. All I know is that I've been championing Decentralisation for so long, now it's time to put my mouth where my money is.

I find Telegram annoying, too many messages from strangers. Is there a way around that?

Just to tweak the settings in the privacy side. The strangers may also be from those groups.

The only issue I have with Telegram is when they notify me that someone started using telegram but that too can be tweaked in the settings

Fully support that, also trying to move away from whatsapp.
Telegram had a big boost here since the protests and also started to use Signal.
Any opinion on this one ?

I only heard about Signal recently and can't say much. I think I'll download it and then review it for myself !ENGAGE 30

Yeah, I agree. There's just too much at stake from us while using these mainstream platforms. I heavily used whatsapp when I was at work, but since I left work last year that's quite not the case anymore. I'm still thinking if I should leave whatsapp altogether now, though Im still on FB mainly for family and a few friends.

I'm on WhatsApp for the same reason and leaving will be a tough decision for me

It's like cutting ties to the rest of the world. Why are they still there?! LOL

Lol you can just keep WhatsApp for anyone to contact you. I found that anybody that doesn't have my number really isn't my close friend anyways.

Reason why I'm still on facebook and whatsapp is to keep track of my friends and family members. Being on the platform doesn't necessarily mean that I'm always active in them. For me, i spend more time on decentralized apps and platforms and 2% of my time on other centralized social media. Telegram is cool, discord is better, while other blockchain social media like hive, leofinance and others are the main deal. Decentralization is truly the key to liberation and freedom from censorship. I concur with you bro @belemo

I felt relief when I deleted my Facebook. I didn't even miss it, since I barely went there anyway. Deleting Whatsapp will be huge for me though. I wonder if I can actually do it.
Yeah, I spend more time here too. Just interacting and enjoying the scenary.

lol that's very true😊 bro, deleting whatsapp will be very hard as it stands and I can't advise you delete WhatsApp either. Deleting Facebook is no issue at all, and it's ok. Just that one good part of Facebook is the advertising Platforms where your business is able to reach lots of audience at a goal. Anyway, opera news hub serves in such respect. Undisputably, Decentralized social media blockchain is the main deal on board.

People have been talking a lot about Telegram lately? Whats so special about it? Is it actually decentralized? oO

It's not decentralised but at the same time, it is more encrypted. Think of Telegram like the Leofinance of Instant messaging. They own the app but let you configure it to your taste. You can make your own bots, customise your chat rooms etc. Kinda like discord but better

The function to delete chat after a certain time is really neat, I didnt use much else on Telegramm tho, besides the call PC function because one of my friends handy is garbage.

haha. Yeah there are a bunch of cool functions on it. My only problem is that I have joined a shit ton of groups and I need to delete myself from them before I can enjoy it

I still use google services and twitter. Facebook and instagram have been ditched for almost four years and I've been using telegram instead of whatsapp for more than a year. I hate facebook and all of its apps.

To add insults to injury--Facebook owns Whatsapp so its a centralization layer on top of centralized services. I need to look into Telegram. I don't use Whatsapp, but I still should start looking for a chat service just in case I need it. Good Post!

There are a bunch of them out there, including Telegram where interest spiked lately. There's also Signal and discord. Around here, Whatsapp is a big deal and people would look at you funny if you don't use it
