Hive onboarding could be better

The Hive FPL league has officially been created and you can get more information about the league code here. The idea behind the Hive FPL is to grow a community of FPL players but also to work as an onboarding route for sports lovers in general.

Recently, one member of the community on Discord had been struggling with creating a Hive account. After using Hiveonboard and Ecency, it just woasnt working out.

For Hiveonboard, it was either there was no ticket or he didn't receive the text. For Ecency, it was always IP quality is too low.

These are two very popular routes, from a number of avenues available to create a Hive account. These two routes turned out to be very frustrating for him and he was actually on the verge of rage quitting before he even began.

At one point, the user even thought that the Hive FPL community was the owner of the Hive network and it was somehow our fault that he couldn't create an account. I took him to the side, explained how Hive works and then suggested he tried Leofinance and it worked like a charm.

Leofinance is for Hive

I proceeded to suggest the user tries creating an account with Leofinance, to which he agreed but not before he said "How comes you have like 5 websites for 1 account 😂". I'm not sure if that was a compliment or a complaint but at least he was laughing.

Creating an account with leofinance turned out to be extremely easy. All he did was;

Now I wasn't looking at his page while he was doing it but after this short process, he received his key and got a Leofinance/Hive account. The process was free, fast and exactly the way creating a social media account should be.

Lessons for Hive

Let me start by applauding the efforts of all the communities and projects that are onboarding people into Hive. Other than the previously mentioned platforms, Splinterlands, @acidyo and the OCDB, Blocktrades and many others are working hard to make onboarding easier.

So back to the Hive FPL dude, he is just one user that chose to persist and continued bugging us until he finally created the account. For other users, it might not be the same.

Can you imagine how many people have heard about Hive and tried to signup but couldn't because their "IP quality" was too low?

With no disrespect to the work done so far, we need more. We must address this issue as individuals and most importantly, as a community. We need to take steps that will achieve a lasting and sustainable solution for the community at large.

As I see it, if signing up for a Hive account continues to be difficult, we are all losing, regardless of what project you represent.

The unfortunate thing here is of course the usual, a few bad actors making life harder for everyone else. While we have been assisting @hiveonboard with account tickets there are always a few accounts being created on the daily that are obvious abuse, such as squatting account names or creating accounts for god knows what reason. And those are the ones that stand out as obvious, who knows how many put in the effort of actually creating a unique sounding username that doesn't instantly tell us it's the same person that created the last 10. Either way, it's not something that can be helped much without proper identity verification, hopefully a few real ones exist in the daily account creations and our other inititiaves pick them up when they attempt to post, engage, etc, with RC delegations it will be even easier to help the legit looking ones out so they can post freely without running into low RC and the project trying to help them not losing out on it by having delegated HP to possibly fraudulent accounts.

Leofinance I think has no checks in place so it could be that that's the reason it was so easy to create an account. ecency uses IP restrictions but unsure how well they work, have heard from many lately that they're being restricted even though they've never attempted to create an account in the past and as for hiveonboard, can't really say why it some times says they are out of tickets when they shouldn't be or why verification isn't as smooth when they once get through.

I think RC delegation will be a real game changer for the community. Do you think that RC will eventually become a tradable asset?

Anyway, I hope we find a way to deal with the bad actors that are making life difficult for us.

I don't think it will be tradable in the sense we think, most likely HP delegations will be worth more for projects that need the RC to generate accounts and keep the accounts transacting. So there will probably be more demand on leasing HP, right now the only demand I'm seeing is by abusers and farmers leasing through dlease to take more out from the post reward pool from posts no one reads while the people leasing it receive higher returns and dlease gets a cut and no one wonders where those higher returns are coming from.

Spoiler alert: it's your stake being dilluted and no value being added to it.

verge of rage quitting before he even began.

I can understand him coz its something i gone through already while beginning with hive

How comes you have like 5 websites for 1 account

For a newbie it is complicated to understand thing's like him i was confused and thought all 5 are different website not frontend

But back then i had not much knowledge about blockchain or web3.0 and to begin with hive i believe basics knowledge of blockchain is important.

Though didn't knew that LeoFinance make thing's quite easy otherwise i would've made through it.

There will always be people who have issues with any one onboarding front end. Which is the value of having so many options :) ... If a friend can't use one, have them try another 🙌

The picture below is confusing. It creates lots of questions.

I used Ecency to create my accounts, always recommended it for new users, and never knew that people had problems with it due IP stuff.

But you're right: if we want to Hive to grow, account creating has to be as easy, headache-free as possible. Y eah, fraudsters will always exist, but we can't punish new users by making them jump through the hoops just to make an account... they'll just go back to Instagram or Facebook.

Yep, always send them to LeoFinance.

Using Twitter to offer 'lite' accounts that allow normies to access our ecosystem without taking control of their keys until they're ready, LeoFinance is by far the best way to sign up for a Hive account.

...but not before he said "How comes you have like 5 websites for 1 account 😂". I'm not sure if that was a compliment or a complaint but at least he was laughing.

Explaining that you can be censored from front-ends, but never at the account level is tough.

Always streamline it as much as possible.

"All you need to sign up to fantasy EPL is a Hive account which you can get on LeoFinance."
