This is why I'm pausing my 5K Hive Power Project

I set out to reach 5K Hive power before the end of the year and for the past couple of weeks, I was making major strides towards the goal. However, recent events concerning our visa status and my wife's master's program will require pausing the charge.

To achieve my target, I estimated that I'd need to stake a minimum of 400 Hive per month. This hive was to be derived from post rewards and buying from the market.

Due to exchange charges, I had to explore a different route that enabled me buy at a slightly cheaper rate. To circumvent third party charges, I bought Hive directly from people in the Hive Naija community.

So, basically, I'd send money directly to people's accounts and they'd send hive to my wallet. This method is under the radar and since it was generally small amounts leaving my account, it won't raise any suspicion with the banks.

Life happened

We moved to the UK last August and it has been quite the experience. I've stretched myself to points that I didn't even know I could reach and have grown in the process.

To get to the UK, my wife embarked on a Master's program that costs upwards of £15,000. This doesn't even include our flight cost, rent and all that to settle in.

We have whittled down our total debt to the school to £1,800 and I planned to pay it all off next month, when I receive my salary. Sadly, the school has other plans and sent us a very disheartening message that includes locking my wife out of her student portal.

The action carried out by the school means that my wife will no longer be able to access her course materials, Microsoft office and all the essentials to carry out the last few months if her studies.

In the school's defence, I get that they need their money. They have every right to demand for it and I'm not blaming them for doing whatever they felt was necessary.

In our defence, we had been paying consistently over the past couple of months and I felt that our regular payments would have bought us some level of trust. Well, it looks like trust doesn't pay the bills and well, now we have to raise the remaining £1,800 to clear the debt and be free.

I wish I had £1,800 just laying around but I don't. My monthly income while here has been slightly over £1,200 and every month, I pay around £1,000 to the school and live off 200-250 for the entire month.

If you live in the UK, you probably understand how difficult it is to survive on 200 per month. This money covers my transportation, food and any other shenanigans, which includes buying hive.

Anyway, to cut the already long story short, I'll have to pause buying Hive for now because I need to raise money for the balance and avoid embarrassment. I've spoken with my friends and family, and there's hope of getting yet another loan to finalize the payments.

Between I and my wife, we will be able to raise £800. This will see us living "hand to mouthier" than we've ever lived. We will be neck deep in debt and just scrape through the next few weeks with all the resources at our disposal.

I'll start a power down just in case, and watch how things proceed. Thanks to my new job that pays more, might I add, I'll need to buy weekly train or bus tickets to Leicester, so I'll need money every week.

So, yeah, this is why I'm pausing my plan to reach 5K Hive power. When the dust settles, I'll get back on the horse. If the bull market comes then, I'll simply wait it out, take out profit and then get back when everything calms down.
