What do you think about the new Splinterlands reward system?

Splinterlands reward system change.png

In the Splinterlands community on Leofinance, there have been numerous publications about the change to the reward system. Some people have expressed their concerns, while others are pleased with the change.

From a personal point of view, I've actually been enjoying the new daily reward system. In my opinion, the game is more rewarding than it has ever been.

It's not just about the rewards that make me really appreciate the change. There's also the fact that there's now a smaller incentive for bots to farm rewards, thereby forcing players to be more competitive.

In case you've not been paying attention, thanks to the recent change, players now have to play a lot more ranked battles to enable them to earn daily and season rewards. On top of earning DEC and rating points, you also earn focus points and season points that contribute to the number and quality of rewards you'll find in your reward chest.

Mixed feelings

Contrary to my own personal feelings, there seem to be mixed feelings about the effect of the change. Some people are pleased by the change but others don't seem exactly enthused by the new approach.

On the surface, I understand why someone will not be pleased by the change. In the pst, all you had to do was win 5 or three battles, which could just be a couple of minutes and your quest is complete. Now, to earn even one quest, you need to slug it out for hours, accumulating focus points and more chests, in the process.

This change in the reward system is going to adversely affect the way passive players participate in the game. If you're the type that just does your daily quests and then some, you're probably going to suffer due to this change.

Based on the change, winning five quests will most likely offer you a lot fewer rewards than you'd have normally earned at the level that you battle in.

On the other side of the fence, if you're an active player that spends hours playing the game, then you'll most likely be earning a lot more rewards than you usually would at your max league.

For example, I'd normally end the season with 26 Loot chests for finishing in Gold 2 but after only 3 days of the new season with the revamped reward system, I'm already up to 33 reward chests for the season. Keep in mind that there are still 10 days to go, which means that I'll most likely end the season with at least 50 loot chests.

The word from the active player side of the fence is that the change is taking away rewards from farmers and giving them to active players. When you think about it though, they're not wrong.

Why should people who play the game actively and contribute favourably to the network effect earn less than some random rich person that just buys their way to the champions league? All the champions player needs is to win only five battles a day to always earn more than me.

Something different

To get ahead in SPlinterlands, you have to make a financial commitment. That's not unique to Splinterlands, since virtually every other play to earn game is the same.

The main change here mandates people to play a lot more than they usually would in the past. From the Splinterlands project's point of view, incentivising active participation in the game is definitely a positive.

This incentive comes with better rewards for players that choose to put more muscle into the game. However, individuals that played passively will not exactly like the change and they will either have to move to the rental business side of the game or simply just up the ante and start participating.

This change will eventually make rank battles a lot more competitive and make rewards even harder to get while promising a lot more rewards in the process. So while the promise of higher rewards exists, you're only limited by the level of input.

So, what do you think about the change in the reward system on Splinterlands?

I enjoy the changes, suddenlly evey battle count for me and I feel more "rush" than before. The problem with the changes is that for new players its gonna be impposible to get in the game now, Until now it was hard now it's feel immposible.
When I started to play, for the first month I didnt put any money in the game... first I wanted to feel that its rewarding enough.

@bulldog1205 made a great post about the fact that it is currently cheaper than ever to compete in silver league because rentals are dirt cheap. Over two days he spent 15ct worth of the 3000 credits new accounts with spellbooks come with and earned 30+ rewards chests.

If new players use the rental market well, then they can easily make a profit

I did not consider the rental concept.
But it sounds like it will work mostly for a skilled player rather than a noobs. Yet time will tell...

Im happy with the rewards up until now I must admit. Yes I am playing more, but the reward that comes from it is absolutely worth it. winning up until now!

Players who do the hard work deserve more. Passive players were anyways not benefiting too much from the daily quests.

It's a welcome change for me as an investor. If players are happy, they keep playing and making more money for themselves and for investors. Win win win xD

With the new reward system, I think it will have a positive impact on the rental market. But it does not.
Currently, I see the rental market is less active than previous seasons.

I see the higher league players are happier but the major of Splinterlands players are in Bronze now and they're not happy with the new system because their rewards were cut a lot.

I love the new system. Before the change after completing the daily there wasn’t much reason to keep playing as the Dec rewards were so minimal.

Currently in just 5 days of this season I already earned 24 season chests, 2 more than I would previously get in gold 3. And these chests are higher quality!

Also I got about 3-4 focus chests per day, which feels more effective than the 6 I got before, because of the 8x multiplier for Dec rewards on these chests.

Nice. I'm a gold 2 fighter and right now I get at least 12 chests. My maximum season chest was previously 26, I'm already up to 37 😄
