Will you buy Genesis League Goals packs?

I'm not going to lie, I really hate it when Americans refer to football as "Soccer" and then go around referring to a sport they barely even kick the ball as Football. So, I was kind of pleased to see that Genesis League Soccer was rebranded to Genesis League Goals.

As much as I'd like to spend the entire evening whining about the nomenclature of a game, I'd also like to point out that the sale of Genesis League goals packs is live. In fact, the last time I checked, there were only a bit over 290k packs remaining. So I guess the sale is proceeding at a decent pace or not, honestly, I don't even know.

To be totally honest, I haven't actually been paying close attention to the sales, so I can't comment on the pace of sales. However, I know that on the first day of the sale, over 200k packs were sold, so I guess that indicates there's some buy pressure.

At the time of writing, each pack costs $5 a pop. So, that obviously means that over $1m worth of packs has already been sold in the first 24 hours.

To buy or not to buy?

I threw out a Tweet about mulling over whether to participate in the presale or not and got some interesting responses. It is safe to say that @acidyo isn't a fan of the sale due to reasons that resonate with me.

Some other responses to my aforementioned tweet about buying the GLG packs didn't quite think price was an issue, with @gniksivart indicating a 100 pack purchase, Dejota still uncertain and @jongolson completely sitting it out due to being stretched thin by SPlinterlands investment.

Going back to Acid's tweet, which basically mirrors my sentiment about the sale, I have to say that at $5 a pack, I find the venture to be a bit risky for me at this current time.

I can't speak about the general sale because, as I said, I don't have enough information about it. However, from a personal point of view, buying packs right now seems like a gamble that is beyond me.

To flip or to play

Moving away from the investment angle of the sale, I'm also not sure I want to play another card trading and battling game. Again, this is just my opinion, but I'm really not in the mental state to start throwing funds at yet another card trading game; one is enough if you ask me.

I have to be honest with myself about these things and putting in more funds into this game from a gameplay point of view isn't a fair reflection of my feelings. So, the point is that spending a couple of dollars on a pack for another card trading game is not something I want to do.

From an investment point of view, I can see how buying packs could translate to decent value in the short term and future. I have a feeling that this game will be shilled to the moon and back by Splinterlands, in conjunction with the MLSPA.

I have a feeling that considering the fact that this game is the first of many Sports-themed games entering the Genesis games franchise that is run by Splinterlands, they will absolutely not miss.

So, my hunch is that while buying packs for gameplay might not sit well with me, there's a very good chance that I could easily flip the $5 for a bit more profit in the long run.

From a flipping point of view, I think taking a gamble isn't out of place. There's just too much riding on this game for it to flop, so you just know that flipping for profit is quite likely at the end of the venture.

It's an age-old dilenma of the head and the heart. My heart says I don't want to play another card trading game but my head tells me that this game could be huge and I should invest to flip in the future.

So, what do you intend to do? Will you buy GLG packs or will you be sitting this one out?

I'd love to...I think it's a fantastic project. But Splinterlands has just been releasing promo after promo, card after card, deck after deck...I can't keep up LOL

I wanted to buy 5 packs but my transaction failed so I tried a few more times and finally got it to go through, however, they still processed my failed transaction so I ended up with 10 packs total at cost. Feels pretty dirty pushing failed transactions through but it's only an extra 5 packs so whatever.

Definitely something I'm not going to forget when it comes time for future sales though.
