High-speed Internet In Venezuela?🚀 | It's possible? [Eng|Esp]

For nobody (from Venezuela) it's a secret that the internet service offered by CANTV is very slow. Watching videos is a dare, sometimes they hang and others remain in an infinite load so one decides to abandon the page.
With the pandemic also came the need to be connected to the internet to study, work, communicate with family and friends, and also be distracted. And with our internet, it is very difficult.
Because of my son's studies, he needs to watch classes on the internet, connect via zoom, send homework, and upload videos of the presentations he has to do; additionally, I am doing online courses; I was already considering a year ago the need for private internet service.
We live in San Cristobal Venezuela and several companies provide wireless internet service so I took the task of finding out about the plans, installation costs, and of course, the monthly fee.
To begin with, I had to find out which company had its antennas directed toward my sector. I found two that provided service to my area and both informed me that I had to consider the distance from the roof of the building where I live, to my apartment, that is, 6 levels below, about 20 meters.
I had to consider the antenna, support tube, and the extra meters of cable that would be required. We were already talking about more than 120 dollars, the plans started at 20 USD per month. Well, the budget was already around 150 USD but it would surely be more.
The wireless internet providers work with Colombian signal, San Cristobal is about 2 hours from the border with Colombia.
Here if I took a surprise not so pleasant, the service of almost all companies is very saturated and has fallen much quality in terms of speed. I was able to verify this with some friends and practically all of them told me that it was a little better than cantv.
To opt for the option provided by Intercable I had to have cable service and I have not had cable TV since 2020. That was going to represent an unnecessary expense, plus they were not making new installations since the pandemic started.
Movistar is also offering internet service, but when I asked for information and prices, both the installation and the monthly payment were very high.

Para nadie (de Venezuela) es un secreto que el servicio de internet que ofrece CANTV es muy lento. Ver videos es una osadía, a veces se cuelgan y otras se quedan en una carga infinita por lo que uno decide abandonar la página.
Con la pandemia llegó también la necesidad de estar conectados por internet para estudiar, trabajar, comunicarse con familiares y amigos y también distraernos. Y eso con nuestro internet es muy difícil.
Por los estudios de mi hijo que necesita ver clases por internet, conectarse por zoom, enviar las tareas, subir videos de las presentaciones que debe hacer; adicionalmento yo estoy haciendo cursos online; ya estaba considerando desde hace un año la necesidad un servicio privado de internet.
Vivimos en San Cristóbal Venezuela y aquí se encuentran varias empresas que prestan servicio de internet inalambrico por lo que me di a la tarea de averiguar de los planes, costos de instalación y por supuesto, la mensualidad.
Para empezar había que averiguar que empresa tenía direccionando sus antenas hacia mi sector. Encontre dos que daban servicio hacia mi zona y ambas me informaron que debía considerar la distancia desde la azotea del edificio donde vivo, hasta mi apartamento osea 6 niveles más abajo, unos 20 metros.
Debía considerar antena, tubo de soporte y los metros extra de cable que iba a requerir. Ya por aquí estabamos hablando de más de 120 dólares, los planes comenzaban en 20 USD mensual. Bueno ya el presupuesto rondaba unos 150 USD pero seguramente sería más.
Las empresas proveedoras del internet inalambrico, trabajan con señal colombiana, San Cristóbal esta a unas 2 horas de la frontera con Colombia.
Aquí si me lleve una sorpresa ton tan agradable, el servicio de casi todas las empresas esta muy saturado y ha bajado mucho la calidad en cuanto a velocidad. Eso lo pude comprobar con unos amigos y practicamente todos me comentaron que era un poquito mejor que cantv.
Para optar por la opción suministrada por Intercable debía tener el servicio de cable y yo tengo desde el 2020 que no tengo TV por cable. Eso me iba a representar un gasto innecesario, además que no estaban haciendo nuevas instalaciones desde que comenzo la pandemia.
Movistar también esta ofrciendo servcicio de internet, al solicitar información y precios tanto la instalación como el pago mensual me resultaban muy alto.

En esta búsqueda el 2021 descubrí la empresa VNET que comenzó a prestar servicio de internet por fibra optica en San Cristóbal y otras ciudades del país, sólo iba a necesitar un módem que ellos instalan y el router que yo debo tener. El costo de la instalación y el equipo era de 100 USD y el plan familiar me resultaba el más adecuado para las necesidades de mi familia.
El detalle era que no estaba en toda la ciudad sino por zonas y por la mía aún no había llegado, y así estuve preguntando por varios meses hasta que en diciembre me dijeron que ya habían comenzado las instalaciones de los equipos por mi sector.
Con esta buena noticia me puse manos a la obra para reunir el dinero. En diciembre mis padres contraen COVID 19 por lo que las prioridades cambiaron más sin embargo siempre estaba pendiente de su cuenta en Instagram.
LLegó mayo y una promoción de Vnet por el Día de la Madre, osea para mi, que incluía un precio especial para la intalcación, equipo y dos meses de servicio gratis. AHORA YA PODÍA ADQUIRIR EL SERVICIO.
On June 1st I received the call I was waiting for, they came to install the equipment, and we were finally going to have fiber optic internet. The installation took almost 3 weeks due to the number of people that took advantage of the promotion.
This has been a change from here to the moon, in upload and download speed, it is something else; really the service I had before CANTV was quite slow.
As I mentioned the equipment is included in the installation price, and in my particular case the company had received a modem router and that was the one they assigned me.
The internet signal is received by wifi, but I can also connect by network cable, as the equipment has 4 ports.
It is necessary to say that even though the fiber optic internet is not one of the highest speeds worldwide, the improvement is very substantial. 🚀🚀🚀🚀
El 1ero de Junio recibo la llamada que estaba esperando, venian a instalarme el equipo, ya por fin ibamos a tener internet por fibra óptica. La instalación tardo casi 3 semanas por la cantidad de personas que aprovecharon la promoción.
Esto ha sido un cambio de aquí a la luna, en velocidad de carga y descarga, es otra cosa; realmente el servicio que tenia antes de CANTV era bastante lento.
Como comenté el equipo esta incluído en el precio de instalación, y en mi caso particular a la empresa le habian llegado modem router y fue el que me asignaron.
La señal de internet la recibo por wifi, pero también me puedo conectar por cable de red, ya que el equipo tiene 4 puertos.
Es necesario decir que aúnque el internet por fibra óptica no es uno de los de más alta velocidad a nivel mundial, la mejora es muy sustancial.🚀🚀🚀🚀

hace poquito vi que estan haciendo instalaciones de fibra por mi calle y puedo decir que aunque no es lo mejor de lo mejor hay un poco de mejora en la estabilidad por lo que he visto con mis vecinos, yo estoy a nada de contratar uno de esos planes
Hola @andrita, en mi caso y comparandolo con el servicio que tenía [cantv] hay una gran diferencia. Aquí en San Cristóbal, cantv esta instalando fibra óptica pero hasta ahora sólo hay dos lugares que lo tienen. No se sabe nada más.
A nivel de Vnet, ya hay varias zonas de la ciudad que tienen el servicio, revisando su página web también estan en varias ciudades de Mérida, Trujillo y otras.
Lo ideal es que todo el país cuente con un mejor servicio de internet con empresas de tipo público y privado.

Yay! I'm glad you guys are getting better service there.
I'm from a rather isolated town here in Southern Brazil and until 2018 we also suffered with slow speeds, then came the fiber option by some ISPs. We immediately went fiber here in my home and our speeds went from 1mbps to 10mbps. A couple of years later and we're now at 500mbps at a very small price increase.
The good thing about fiber is that the service tends to improve a lot over time and prices generally stay the same.
Impressive the speeds they now have. I hope our internet improves much more.
Regarding the price, it seemed much more affordable than the other wireless internet services that I investigated, it requires more investment.

Este año han cubierto más territorio. Mis padres también estan esperando que llegue por su sector, tienen inalámbrico con un vecino, pero son más las veces que la señal se pone lenta.

Hace 1 mes y medio estuve de visita por Venezuela, por Coro específicamente, y es bueno ver el surgimiento de estas empresas que ofrecen fibra óptica. En el caso de Coro, hay zonas por las que aún no pasan los cables, pero con el tiempo ya tendrá más alcance. Saludos y que disfrutes de este internet!
