Cumaná Historic Center Foundation: A place to learn about the history of the city (Eng- Esp)
The city of Cumaná as I have mentioned in other publications is located on the banks of the Manzanares River and was inhabited by aboriginal tribes, distributed along the coast of the entity, its commercial activities were based on fishing and exchange (barter) of products with neighboring ethnic groups; after the arrival of the Spaniards, the spatial distribution was modified and governmental institutions, fortresses, houses and churches were built, thus changing the lifestyle of the indigenous people and subjecting them to a new cultural and social model.
This new structure and distribution of space brought with it architectural designs that responded to the interests of the Spanish crown and its insatiable need to maintain dominance and control in the conquered lands. Among the constructions established by the crown, the Santa Inés church stands out, in a strategic area of the city with access to the main resources such as water and important communication routes; Exactly in front of this important building is the Cumaná Historical Center Foundation.
La historia forma parte importante de nuestro pasado y nos permite conocer elementos o eventos importantes de una determinada sociedad, la ciudad de Cumaná como he mencionado en otras publicaciones está ubicada en la riberas del río Manzanares y era habitada por tribus aborígenes, distribuidas en la costa de la entidad, sus actividades comerciales se basaba en la pesca e intercambio (trueque ) de productos con etnia vecinas; tras la llegada de los españoles la distribución espacial fue modificada y se construyeron las instituciones gubernamentales, fortalezas, casas, iglesias, cambiando de esta forma el estilo de vida de los indígenas y sometiéndolos a un nuevo modelo cultural y social.
Esta nueva estructura y distribución del espacio trajo consigo diseños arquitectónicos que respondían a los intereses de la corona española y su insaciable necesidad de mantener el dominio y control en las tierras conquistadas, entre las construcciones establecidas por la corona destaca la iglesia santa Inés, en un área estratégica de la ciudad con acceso a los principales recursos como el agua e importantes vías de comunicación; exactamente frente a esta importante edificación se ubica la Fundación Centro Histórico de Cumaná.
Carrying out an errand through this area of the city, I found this important center. When I read the name, I felt very happy and many questions came to my mind. I couldn't wait to enter and get the answers to my questions. I quickly went to the office and to my great and unexpected surprise the office was moved to another building, my disappointment outweighed my happiness, but I still asked the guard for permission to take some photos and he explained that on that day the chronicler and historian of the city could not attend me because they were busy in important cultural activities of the entity, in addition, the guard is new there and does not have much information about this office, which for me is one of the most important because it allows us to know the great historical events of the city or could it be that my imagination flew very high; Since in a few minutes my head put together a whole scheme with files, photos, anecdotes, utensils, weapons, jewelry and many other elements from the colonial era that I was looking forward to seeing.
Realizando una diligencia por esta zona de la ciudad me encontré con este importante centro, al leer el nombre me sentí muy feliz y muchas preguntas vinieron a mi mente, no podía esperar para entrar y obtener las respuestas a mis interrogantes, me dirigí rápidamente a la oficina y para mi gran e inesperada sorpresa la oficina fue cambiada a otro edificio, mi decepción superó la felicidad, pero igual pedí permiso al guarda para tomar algunas fotos y me explicó que en ese día el cronista e historiador de la ciudad no me podían atender porque estaban ocupados en importantes actividades culturales de la entidad, además el guarda es nuevo allí y no tiene mucha información sobre esta oficina que para mi es una de las más importantes porque nos permite conocer los grandes sucesos históricos de la ciudad o será que mi imaginación voló muy alto; ya que en pocos minutos mi cabeza armó todo un esquema con archivos, fotos , anécdotas, utensilios, armas, joyas y muchos otros elementos de la época colonial que esperaba ver con ansias.
Once the disappointment was overcome, I focused on the details and decorative elements of this building as well as its design that corresponds to the colonial classic, high walls, a two-leaf door made of wood with a thickness of approximately 10 cm with designs of geometric figures, flowers or lines. ; the windows with their respective bars, frame and wooden leaves that, according to the information of the guard, had a double function: to reinforce security and allow fresh air to enter the house, on the front wall there is a white cornice at the top upper, a beautiful high relief design on the door and window, are really attractive, I guess its meaning is closely linked to the family that inhabited the house as well as the coat of arms located on the side wall.
Superada la decepción me enfoqué en los detalles y elementos decorativos de esta edificación así como su diseño que corresponde al clásico colonial, paredes altas, puerta de dos hojas hechas de madera con un grosor de aproximadamente 10 cm con diseños de figura geométricas, flores o líneas; las ventanas con sus respectivas rejas, marco y hojas de madera que de acuerdo a la información del guarda tenía doble función: Reforzar la seguridad y permitir la entrada de aire fresco a la casa, en la pared frontal se observa una cornisa blanca en la parte superior, un hermoso diseño de alto relieve por de la puerta y ventana, son realmente atractivos, supongo que su significado está estrechamente vinculado a la familia que habitó la casa así como el escudo de armas ubicado en la pared lateral.
The decorative design of the upper part of the door has a triangular shape decorated with a kind of fretwork or flowers combined with a woven ribbon, the interior has some wooden furniture and large doors that give access to the rooms and patio of the house. the ceiling is made of wood and the floor is terracotta, on one of the walls there is a mural with several light brown columns, some repairs have been made in the building, always trying to maintain the original design, some walls have cracks and leaks due to which requires new repairs as well as a coat of paint, especially on the side wall to give greater visibility to this important architectural work. Next door is another office that I found very interesting because of its window design and upper cornice that despite being A little deteriorated by the passage of time, you can see the decorative elements as well as the wooden frames on the outside of the windows.
El diseño decorativo de la parte superior de la puerta tiene forma triangular decorada con una especie de grecas o flores combinadas con una cinta tejida, el interior cuenta con algunos muebles de madera y grandes puertas que dan acceso a las habitaciones y patio de la casa, el techo es de madera y el piso de terracota, en una de las paredes hay un mural con varia columnas de color marrón claro, en el edificio se han hecho algunas reparaciones tratando siempre de mantener el diseño original, algunas paredes tienen grietas y filtraciones por lo cual requiere nuevas reparaciones así como una capa de pintura especialmente en la pared lateral para darle mayor vistosidad a esta importante obra arquitectónica, al lado se encuentra otro oficina que me pareció muy interesante su diseño de ventanas y cornisa superior que que a pesar de estar un poco deteriorada por el paso del tiempo se pueden apreciar los elementos decorativos así como los marcos de madera en la parte externa de las ventanas.

Saludos @irvinc, es una edificación muy interesante por su valor histórico, en Cumaná hay un sector llamado casco histórico donde se conservan muchas edificaciones de la época colonial, lo integran 4 calles que convergen entre sí y tienen en común además de sus vistosas y coloridas construcciones que conducen al Castillo san Antonio de la Eminencia, el principal centro de control y dominio de la corona española en la época colonial.
El desarrollo económico especialmente la construcción de los modernos centros comerciales ha contribuido sustancialmente con el declive de las edificaciones y memoria histórica de algunas ciudades, es una pena que la nueva generación no puedan conocer esta parte de la historia.
