Como saben, la costura es un camino nuevo que he iniciado a mis 60 años de edad y aunque no me siento tan mayor como el número indica, aún así a veces me atacan muchos pensamientos sobre limites de mi edad. Pero, no me he dejado, no puedo decir que aprendo o hago al mismo ritmo que las edades de mi juventud, pero poco a poco a mi propio ritmo he estado viendo buenos progresos. Es siempre importante respetarnos y tener espacio en nuestros tiempos, eso nos ayudará a evitar las frustraciones y a larga abandonar lo que iniciamos.

Hello friends of NeedleWorkMonday, I am very pleased to be with you on this new day and also to have the opportunity to share with you something that I have learned very recently. As you know, sewing is a new path that I have started at 60 years of age and although I do not feel as old as the number indicates, I am still sometimes attacked by many thoughts about the limits of my age. But, I have not stopped, I cannot say that I learn or do at the same pace as the ages of my youth, but little by little at my own pace I have been seeing good progress. It is always important to respect ourselves and have space in our times, that will help us avoid frustrations and in the long run abandon what we started.

Recientemente he aprendido como cortar y armar una franela básica para caballero. Es un proceso bastante sencillo, las partes que debemos cortar son pocas y a la vez, es una prenda bastante útil que puede ser usada tanto para dama como para caballero. La diferencia entre la versión de dama y caballero, es que en las damas el corte de la manga es más corto o alto y el cuello más abajo y amplio. Pero sin lugar a dudas, las piezas se arman de la misma manera y puede ser una pieza unisex.

I have recently learned how to cut and assemble a basic men's flannel. It is a fairly simple process, the parts that we must cut are few and at the same time, it is a very useful garment that can be used by both women and men. The difference between the ladies' and men's versions is that in the ladies the sleeve cut is shorter or higher and the neck is lower and wider. But without a doubt, the pieces are put together in the same way and it can be a unisex piece.

La franela la he elaborado para un vecino, quien deseaba un par de franelas básicas donde era una para él y otra para su hijo. Realmente dudé en aceptar el encargo, porque nunca antes había probado realizar estas piezas, pero la vida no se basa en miedos sino en conquistas. Gustosa acepté de hacer el encargo, con la condición de que si no quedaba a gusto con el resultado, me permitiría comprar las telas nuevamente y hacerlas. Gracias a Dios ambas franelas quedaron muy bien, el cliente quedó satisfecho.

I made the flannel for a neighbor, who wanted a pair of basic flannels, one for him and one for his son. I really hesitated to accept the commission, because I had never tried making these pieces before, but life is not based on fears but on conquests. I gladly agreed to do the order, with the condition that if I was not satisfied with the result, I would be allowed to buy the fabrics again and make them. Thank God both flannels turned out very well, the customer was satisfied.

Proceso de Creación / Creation Process

Iniciaremos poniendo al doble la tela, colocando la franela modelo sobre la tela y así cortar las piezas. Hay que recordar dejar los espacios para el margen de costura, para que así las tallas no se vean afectadas. Después de eso obtendremos las siguientes piezas: Un frente, un trasero, un par de mangas y un listón de 4 centímetros para el borde del cuello.

We will start by doubling the fabric, placing the model flannel on the fabric and thus cutting the pieces. You must remember to leave spaces for the seam allowance, so that the sizes are not affected. After that we will obtain the following pieces: A front, a back, a pair of sleeves and a 4 centimeter ribbon for the edge of the neck.

Después continuamos al armado. Vamos a la máquina de coser e iniciamos cosiendo los hombros.

Then we continue with the assembly. We go to the sewing machine and start sewing the shoulders.

Cosemos el cuello, colocando el listón doble y enfrentando orillas, estirando un poco para que recoja y quede firme.

We sew the neck, placing the double ribbon and facing the edges, stretching it a little so that it gathers and remains firm.

He procedido a armar las mangas. Partiendo desde la unión de los hombros, enfrentamos una manga desde su lado derecho superior medio. Así la centramos bien y pasamos la costura por la sisa. Después de coser las mangas, cerramos los costados.

I have proceeded to put together the sleeves. Starting from the junction of the shoulders, we face one sleeve from its middle upper right side. This way we center it well and pass the seam through the armhole. After sewing the sleeves, we close the sides.

Haremos el dobladillo de las mangas y el de la parte inferior del cuerpo de la franela.

We will hem the sleeves and the bottom of the body of the flannel.

Resultado / Result :

El resultado que habremos obtenido es bastante lindo. La verdad estoy contenta, siento que he superado un escalón más en el aprendizaje de la costura. Les cuento que elaborar esta pieza es algo bastante rápido a decir verdad, por la carencia de detalles y similares. Aunque por mi costura algo desviada, me tomaba mi tiempo para las uniones o costuras.

The result we will have obtained is quite nice. The truth is I'm happy, I feel like I've gone one step further in learning to sew. I tell you that making this piece is quite quick to tell the truth, due to the lack of details and the like. Although my sewing was somewhat skewed, I took my time with the joints or seams.
