Hello my dear friends of the Pinmapple community, today I will take you to one of the most exotic places in my land. Last Saturday I visited for the first time a place that I have been wanting to visit for many years and could not find the time or the company, pus is not a place to go alone, at least not for the style of solo travel that I enjoy.

So the other day I decided to travel with a friend to San Carlos, a department in the center of the province of Mendoza that makes up what is known as Valle de Uco, a set of three departments (Tunuyán, Tupungato and San Carlos) that offer very beautiful landscapes and are a tourist attraction and investors for wine reasons.

However, although most activity is concentrated well to the west, on the mountains, we stayed a little further east, in a place called the "Parque del Cañón de La Salada ", also known as Huayquerías.

Hola mis queridos amigos de la comunidad de Pinmapple, hoy los llevaré a uno de los lugares más exóticos de mi tierra. El sábado pasado visité por primera vez un lugar que hace muchos años tenía ganas de conocer y no hallaba el momento o la compañía, pus no es un espacio pra ir sola, al menos no para el estilo de solo travel que yo disfruto.

Así que el otro día todo se dio para viajar con una amiga a San Carlos, un departamento del centro de la provincia de Mendoza que conforma lo que se conoce como Valle de Uco, un conjunto de tres departamentos (Tunuyán, Tupungato y San Carlos) que brindan paisajes muy bellos y son atracción turística y de inversores por motivos vitivinícolas.

Sin embargo, aunque la mayor actividad se concentra bien al oeste, sobre las montañas, nosotras nos quedamos un poco más al este, en un lugar denominado el ”Parque del Cañón de La Salada”, también conocido como Huayquerías.

This space, according to a page of the Government of Mendoza, at the time of the Pehuenche and Mapuche (aboriginal or native peoples of this side of the map), was a physical and spiritual refuge for warriors, so the park has a very particular energy. Getting to the park is quite easy once you take Route 40 from Mendoza City, and the drive time is about one hour and forty minutes from downtown to the park. Once you find the signs that indicate that you will arrive in that direction, a dirt road begins that is sloping and that little by little (and sometimes not so calmly) leads you to a low, increasingly deserted terrain.

Llegar al parque es bastante sencillo una vez tomada la ruta 40 desde la ciudad de Mendoza, y el tiempo en auto ronda la hora y cuarenta desde el centro hasta el parque. Una vez encontrados los carteles que indican que en esa dirección llegarás adestino, empieza una calle de tierra que está en pendiente y que poco a poco (y a veces no con tanta calma) va conduciéndote a un terreno bajo, cada vez más desértico.

When you want to remember, you are already there, in the middle of a kind of mountain of mud. It is as if you were inside a clay jar and suddenly you have become a tiny bug exploring the jar.

The entrance fee is 1000 Argentinean pesos per person, which is equivalent to about USD 3. In dollars it is not that much, but in Argentinean pesos it is a lot to enter a totally natural space. We paid it anyway and went in. Not only because we were already there, but also because it looked tempting enough.

The relief of this area is unique in the province and is due to water and wind erosion over the years, which gradually shaped this kind of natural labyrinth framed by high walls that according to the page El Portal de Mendoza reach 40 meters high.

It is an excellent place for trekking. This same page indicates that the route is about 3 km long, and I affirm it, because we checked it at the end and it was so. The time to do this hike is about 1:30 - 2 hours, depending on whether you want to take pictures, sit for a moment in the shade, walk faster or slower.

Cuando quieres acordar, ya estás allí, en el medio de una especie de montañas de barro. Es como si uno estuviera dentro de un jarro de arcilla y de pronto se hubiese convertid en un bichito minúsculo explorando el jarro.

El costo para ingresar, es de 1000 pesos argentinos por persona, lo que equivale a unos USD 3. En dólares no es tanto, pero en pesos argentinos es muchísimo para ingresar a un espacio totalmente natural. Igualmente lo pagamos y entramos. No solo porque ya estábamos ahí, sino también porque se veía lo suficientemente tentador.

El relieve de esta zona es único en la provincia y se debe a la erosión hídrica y eólica ocasionada durante años, que poco a poco fueron dando forma a esta especie de laberinto natural enmarcado por altas paredes que según la página El Portal de Mendoza llegan a los 40 metros de alto.

Es un espacio excelente para hacer trekking. Esta misma página indica que el recorrido tiene alrededor de 3 km, y lo afirmo, porque lo chequeamos al finalizarlo y así fue. El tiempo para realizar esta caminata dura alrededor de 1:30 - 2 horas, dependiendo de si uno quiere tomar fotos, sentarse un momento al abrigo de alguna sombra, caminar más rápido o más lento.

The place is a paradise, but not precisely for having landscapes with too much life, but for how exotic it is. It really seems that the walls are in constant dynamism, as if something is molding them as you walk.

At about 3 points along the route there are entrances that provide a bit of shade. We left around 8 am from Mendoza and started the tour at 10:30 am. It was already hot and at about 12 o'clock the sun started to get really hot. We took a little more than two hours because I took several photos to share here and we also did a meditation near the end of the hike.

At those entrances where you can rest, there are also huge rocks that change the landscape a bit.

Some particularities of my walk, at least, are that we found a skull of some animal, which I took pictures of; I literally grabbed a piece of clay soil, so rigid that layers had been made; we saw a little water carquito that must have been left from some rain and that had huge tadpoles; and we were surprised by the amount of bee honeycombs that were there.

El lugar es un paraíso, pero no precisamente por tener paisajes con demasiada vida, sino por lo exótico que es. Realmente pareciera que los muros están en constante dinamismo, como si algo los moldeara a medida que uno camina.

En unos 3 momentos del recorrido hay como entradas que brindan un poco de sombra. Nosotras salimos alrededor de las 8 de la mañana de Mendoza y empezamos el recorrido a las 10:30 am. Ya hacía calor y a las 12 más o menos el sol empezó a pegar bastante. Nosotras nos demoramos un poco más de dos horas porque tomé varias fotos para poer compartir por aquí y además hicimos una meditación cerca del fin de la caminata.

En esas entradas donde uno puede descansar, hay además, rocas enormes que cambian un poco el paisaje.

Algunas particularidades al menos de mi recorrido, son que encontramos una calavera de algún animal, a la cual le tomé fotos; agarré literalmente un pedazo de suelo arcilloso, tan rígido que se habían hecho capas; vimos un carquito de agua que debe haber quedado de alguna lluvia y que tenía enormes renacuajos; y nos sorprendimos por la cantidad de panales de abeja que habían.

This is something I didn't like. I thought I had lost my fear of bees because seeing one no longer bothers me (it used to). But seeing more than 100 bees almost under my feet or on the side of the road made me a bit desperate. Luckily everything went well in this aspect.

The tour also has the option of leaving the specific area of Huayquerías at the end and going up to observe the mountain range, to what is the highest point of that place. We did it, after 12 noon. It was not very nice to be honest, since the landscape had no particularity, but well, it is part of the tour, hehe.

Afterwards we decided to have something to eat because we were famished, so luckily we found a nice little bar in the center of Tunuyán, the neighboring department.

Esto es algo que no me gustó. Pensé que le había perdido el miedo a las abejas porque ver una ya no me molesta (antes sí). Pero ver más de 100 abejas casi bajo mis pies o a los costados del camino, me desesperó un poco. Por suerte todo salió bien en este aspecto.

El recorrido cuenta además, con la opción de al finalizar, abandonar el espacio específico de Huayquerías y subir para observar la cordillera, a lo que es el punto más alto de ese lugar. Lo hicimos, ya pasadas las 12 del mediodía. Eso no estuvo muy lindo la verdad, ya que el paisaje no tenía ninguna particularidad, pero bueno, es parte del recorrido, jeje.

Posteriormente decidimos ir a comer algo porque estábamos famélicas, así que por suerte encontramos un barcito bastante lindo en el centro de Tunuyán, el departamento vecino.

The outing was spectacular, the place is a wonder of Mendoza, a small Precious Stone that I am very grateful to have been able to get to know. I love to continue discovering places in my homeland and to be able to be surprised, enjoy and at the end of the day understand once again that the magic of contemplation can be in far away places, but also closer than I think.
