Better Call Saul seasons 5 and 6: Intrigue and addiction to discover the limits of the ego at its best.

Hello to all my dear hivers of the Movies & TV Shows community. I was hoping to do this post later but I've finished the last episode of the series at this point and had the urge to run to the computer to write.

The last two seasons intensified that feeling I described a few days ago of love-hate. In truth, I was absolutely trapped in the story as I did not expect it to happen, from the beginning of season 5 until episode 10 of season 6, where everything began to pass with an extreme slowness, in black and white (I have never been interested in a monochromatic audiovisual production).

However, I must admit that these two seasons made me confirm something I was suspecting: this series requires two or three viewings to understand the depth of the issues addressed and above all, the psychological background behind each of the characters.

**I warn that I may tell some things about the series that if you are interested in watching it (if you haven't already), I don't recommend you read what follows. I won't be very clear, but I will let some information leak out, since they have been the ones that moved me the most to write right now.

In this post I won't mention again all the actors and very concrete data of the story because I have already mentioned it in the other post and I don't want to fall into repetition.

Better Call Saul temporadas 5 y 6: intriga y adicción para descubrir los límites del ego en su mayor expresión

Hola a todos mis queridos hivers de la comunidad de Movies & TV Shows. Esperaba hacer esta publicación más adelante pero he terminado el último episodio de la serie en este momento y tuve la necesidad de correr a la computadora para escribir.

Las últimas dos temporadas intensificaron aquella sensación que describí hace unos días de amor-odio. En verdad quedé absolutamente atrapada en la historia como no me esperaba que ocurriera, desde el inicio de la 5ta temporada hasta el episodio 10 de la sexta, en donde todo empezó a transcurrir con una lentitud extrema, encima en blanco y negro (jamás he logrado interesarme por una producción audiovisual monocromática).

Sin embargo, debo reconocer que estas dos temporadas me hicieron confirmar algo que estaba sospechando: esta serie requiere unas dos o tres vistas para comprender la profundidad de los temas que se abordan y sobre todo, el trasfondo psicológico detrás de cada uno de los personajes.

Aviso que es posible que cuente algunas cosas de la serie que si están interesados en verla (si aún no lo han hecho), no les recomiendo que lean lo que sigue. No seré muy clara, pero sí dejaré filtrar algunos datos, ya que han sido los que más me movilizaron a escribir ahora mismo.

En este post no mencionaré nuevamente a todos los actores y datos bien concretos de la historia porque ya lo he mencionado en la otra publicación y no quiero caer en la repetición.

I'm going to talk in general about the two, since I have no idea at what point I moved on to season 6, I just remember that suddenly I was there.

I was totally immersed in that desert where Jimmy's character began to shake me between emotions. At that moment I felt sorry for him and for a few minutes I saw him reduced to a poor mule who had no choice but to look for that money in order to save his life.

I think that was the moment when I could not stop watching the series until today.

That feeling that Jimmy generated in me was almost immediately covered by impotence when I saw Kim in jail talking to Salamanca. At that moment I knew that the life of what became my favorite character was in danger.

So I couldn't stop watching the series until I knew if Kim would die or not, until at one point I couldn't stand the anxiety and I didn't have time to continue watching the series, so I looked it up on the internet.

That information gave me a lot of calm and I was very happy that despite having read what happened, in general, the information I saw was far from what ended up happening in the story, so I was still surprised.

Voy a hablar en general de las dos, ya que no tengo idea en qué momento pasé a la temporada 6, solo recuerdo que de pronto estaba allí.

Quedé totalmente sumergida en aquel desierto donde el personaje de Jimmy empezó a sacudirme entre emociones. En aquel momento me compadecí de él y por unos minutos lo vi reducido a una pobre mula que no tenía otra opción que buscar ese dinero para poder salvar su vida.

Creo que ese fue el momento en el que no pude dejar de ver la serie hasta hoy.

Aquella sensación que me generó Jimmy, casi inmediatamente quedó tapada por impotencia cuando vi a Kim en la cárcel hablando con Salamanca. En ese momento supe que la vida del que se convirtió en mi personaje preferido, estaba en peligro.

Así que no pude parar de ver la serie hasta saber si Kim moriría o no, hasta que en un momento no aguanté la ansiedad y no me daba más el tiempo para seguir viendo la serie, así que lo busqué en internet.

Esa información me dio bastante calma y me alegré mucho de que a pesar de haber leído lo que pasaba, muy en general, la información que vi distaba mucho de lo que terminaba ocurriendo en la historia, por lo que igual terminé por sorprenderme.

Everything went perfectly for me and Better Call Saul became an addiction from the beginning of season 5 to episode 10 of season 6, as I mentioned.

At one point I came to detest Jimmy, and that's when he asks Lalo to send her to commit the murder. At the end I ended up doubting if he somehow wanted to protect her so as not to leave her alone with Lalo, or if he was so cowardly and narcissistic that he preferred not to risk his life.

Kim's character, impeccable. I loved her story as a little girl, her kindness, and that balance that exists in her essence, that shows a woman with a big heart, companion, respectful, someone who loves despite a big difference, someone who wants to help others because she does, with a very beautiful altruism; but that in so many moments lets leak drops of a command that does not become macabre, but I would say innocent. An innocent evil, if that can be understood.

I thought both Kim and Jimmy's characters were impeccably played by Rhea Seehorn and Bob Odenkirk. They both managed to provoke me that love or rejection towards them, something that I think is fundamental to say that a character is really accomplished.

Todo transcurrió para mí, de manera perfecta y Better Call Saul se convirtió en una adicción desde el inicio de la temporada 5 hasta el episodio 10 de la 6, como les había mencionado.

En un momento llegué a detestar a Jimmy, y es cuando le pide a Lalo que la envíe a ella a cometer el asesinato. Al final terminé dudando si de algún modo quiso protegerla para no dejarla sola con Lalo, o si era tan cobarde y narcisista que prefirió no arriesgar su vida.

El personaje de Kim, impecable. Amé su historia de pequeña, su bondad, y ese equilibrio que existe en su esencia, que muestra a una mujer con un gran corazón, compañera, respetuosa, alguien que ama a pesar de una gran diferencia, alguien que desea ayudar a los demás porque sí, con un altruismo muy bello; pero que en tantos momentos deja filtrar gotas de una mandad que no llega a ser macabra, sino que diría inocente. Una maldad inocente, si es que eso puede entenderse.

Me pareció que ambos personajes, el de Kim y Jimmy, fueron interpretados de manera impecable por Rhea Seehorn y Bob Odenkirk. Ambos lograron provocarme ese amor o rechazo hacia ellos, algo que creo que es fundamental para decir que un personaje está realmente logrado.

However, I do have some criticisms....

Well, I know many may disagree with me on this point, but I didn't like at all that they used black and white. I know it was a risk, it gives an "after" to the series, it makes this time jump clear; and I do like the concept of "the old in the new".

Somehow this takes us back to the beginnings of television, or at least to me, who still can't avoid that which is naturally born and is an association of monochromatic with the old. I like that I suddenly had to adapt in my mind that notion to its opposite, which is the future.

And I rescue the last scene of Kim and Jimmy smoking in black and white. It was excellent.

Other than that, I would have preferred everything to be in color. But I repeat, I know that many must have loved this decision of the creators.

On the other hand, I almost had a fit when I saw Kim living a life that had nothing to do with her nature. In order to save herself and get away from the crime and drama, she ended up accepting an everyday life that practically showed a character dead in life. That got me thinking about a lot of things in real life.

But outside of that...would that have really made Kim? For 7 years maintain that life, when she was a strong, confident, risk-taking woman, passionate about her profession and her life... Then I thought she was so "shocked " that she practically had no choice.

I thought about it when she apparently "wakes up" again to who she was, exposes the truth to Howard's wife, let alone when she goes to prison as Jimmy's lawyer. At least that told me well... Kim goes back to being Kim somehow.

Sin embargo, tengo algunas críticas…

Bueno, sé que muchos pueden disentir conmigo en este punto, pero no me gustó para nada que utilizaran el blanco y negro. Sé que fue un riesgo, que le da un “después” a la serie, que deja en claro este salto temporal; y sí me gusta el concepto de “lo viejo en lo nuevo”.

De algún modo esto nos traslada a los inicios de la televisión, o al menos a mi, que aún no logro evitar eso que naturalmente nace y es una asociación del monocromático con lo antiguo. Me agrada que de pronto tuviera que adaptar en mi mente esa noción a su opuesto, que es el futuro.

Y rescato la última escena de Kim y Jimmy fumando en blanco y negro. Quedó excelente.

Fuera de eso, hubiese preferido que todo siguiera a color. Pero repito, sé que muchos deben haber amado esta decisión de los creadores.

Por otro lado, casi me da un ataque cuando vi a Kim viviendo una vida que nada tenía que ver con su naturaleza. Para salvarse y alejarse del delito y del drama, terminó aceptando una cotidianidad que prácticamente mostraba a un personaje muerto en vida. Eso me llevó a pensar en muchas cosas de la vida real.

Pero fuera de eso… ¿eso hubiese hecho realmente Kim? Durante 7 años mantener esa vida, cuando era una mujer fuerte, segura, arriesgada, apasionada con su profesión y su vida… Luego pensé que quedó tan “shockeada” que prácticamente no tuvo opción.

Pensé en ello cuando aparentemente “despierta” otra vez a quien ella era, expone la verdad a la esposa de Howard, y ni hablar cuando va a la prisión como abogada de Jimmy. Al menos eso me dijo bueno… Kim vuelve a ser Kim de alguna manera.

Another thing that left me with a little taste, is that it was a rushed ending. I liked that they invited Breaking Bad to the story, it was almost inevitable, but the way everything was developing, I think they should have given more time to that link between two tremendous series with a character in common (well, with several...).

The fact that one episode came to explain that Jimmy had returned to be the criminal he once tried to leave behind, failing tremendously after Chuck's death, another episode showed us that Kim had fled to a life antagonistic in every way to her own nature, and then another two episodes gave us some closure, for me it was as if someone told me an incredible story and said: "and well, the end.

Otra cosa que me dejó gusto a poco, es que se notó un final apurado. Me gustó que invitaran a Breaking Bad a la historia, era algo casi inevitable, pero del modo en que todo se venía desarrollando, creo que daba para que le dieran más tiempo a ese vínculo entre dos tremendas series con un personaje en común (bueno, con varios…).

Esto de que un episodio nos viniera a explicar que Jimmy había vuelto a ser aquel criminal que en algún momento intentó dejar atrás fracasando tremendamente tras la muerte de Chuck, otro episodio nos indicara que Kim había huído a una vida antagónica en todo sentido a su propia naturaleza, y luego otros dos episodios nos dieran cierto cierre, para mí fue como si alguien me contara una historia increíble y me dijera de golpe: “y bueno, fin.

Anyway, I will make an observation to myself and I recognize that I should watch it again, perhaps with a more analytical eye. I started watching it for entertainment and I found a story that invites me to delve a little deeper into both the characters and the links between them.

The last two seasons do not only touch Jimmy and Kim, but logically we have our Fring with the Pollos Hermanos, Lalo with the Salamancas, Nacho who ends up being literally everybody's and nobody's, not even his own person; Mike, totally repentant for that first decision that led him to the dead end of scams and drug trafficking.

De todas maneras, haré una observación hacia mi persona y reconozco que debería volverla a ver, quizás ya con un ojo más analítico. La empecé a ver por entretenimiento y me encontré con una historia que me invita a profundizar un poco más tanto en los personajes como en los vínculos entre ellos.

Las dos últimas temporadas no tocan únicamente a Jimmy y a Kim, sino que lógicamente tenemos a nuestro Fring con los Pollos Hermanos, a Lalo con los Salamanca, a Nacho que termina por ser literalmente de todos y de nadie, ni siquiera de su misma persona; a Mike, totalmente arrepentido por aquella primera decisión que lo llevó al camino sin salida de las estafas y el narcotráfico.

I hope you liked this almost catharsis review. After writing it, I see that I really somehow got involved in the story, haha, I even felt passion while writing this post.
