Breaking Bad, 5 seasons that became an icon of the TV Shows world

Hello my dear friends of Movies & TV Shows, it's a pleasure to be here once again, and this time I come to bring a series that I promised myself to review quite a while ago, when I watched Better Call Saul in 2022.

Breaking Bad is a series that I finished watching for the second time just a few weeks ago, and I couldn't believe that I was getting hooked once again with a story whose end I already knew; and this series is one of the most watched in history, and according to the page Sensacine, it is the best rated of all time.

The good thing about this second time in front of the story is that I was able to analyze some psychological aspects of the characters that I had ignored before, and also, with the information I had from Jimmy McGill's story in Better Call Saul, I was able to put together more parts of this puzzle focused on drug trafficking.

Hola mis queridos amigos de Movies & TV Shows, es un placer estar una vez más por aquí, y en esta ocasión vengo a traer una serie que me prometí reseñar hace bastante, cuando vi Better Call Saul en el 2022.

Breaking Bad es una serie que terminé de ver por segunda vez hace tan solo unas semanas, y no podía creer que nuevamente me estuviera enganchando de esa manera una vez más con una historia cuyo fin ya conocía; y es que esta serie es una de las más vistas de la historia, y según la página Sensacine, es la mejor valorada de todos los tiempos.

Lo bueno de esta segunda vez frente a la historia, es que me permití analizar algunos aspectos psicológicos de los personajes que antes había ignorado, y además, con la información que tenía por la historia de Jimmy McGill en Better Call Saul, pude armar más partes de este rompecabezas con foco en el narcotráfico.

Plot

Breaking Bad is the story of an ordinary man, a worker like any other who has spent his whole life, until his maturity, studying, working hard and raising a family. He followed the scheme, without ever rebelling against anything and without putting buts. However, life played a trick on him when a man who did not even smoke was diagnosed with lung cancer.

This man, a chemistry teacher in the mornings and a car wash employee in the afternoons, was unable to raise enough money to support his family, which consisted of his wife, a teenage son and a baby on the way. In addition, he had to deal daily with his brother-in-law, who worked for the DEA (a U.S. agency dedicated to the fight against drugs and drug trafficking).

One day accompanying his brother-in-law on a mission to find some young methamphetamine cooks, he discovers a former student cooking, so somehow, later, this man decides to track the boy to "invite" him to cook with him, in a business that would bring them a profit to be divided in 5o and 50.

Walter White, this teacher played by Bryan Cranston and Jesse Pinkman, who gives life to Aaron Paul, thus begin a small business in a laboratory set up in a very poor caravan. The first character is mainly in charge of the prescription, and the second, of the sale and distribution, but both, completely inexperienced in the massive sale of drugs, end up helping each other in both roles, thus getting into problems that become increasingly serious and risky, while almost without realizing it, they generate a product of excellence, capable of displacing any other on the market.

Trama

Breaking Bad es la historia de un hombre común y corriente, de un trabajador como cualquier otro que ha utilizado toda su vida, hasta su madurez, en estudiar, trabajar arduamente y formar una familia. Siguió el esquema, sin jamás rebelarse ante nada y sin poner peros. Sin embargo, la vida le juega una mala pasada cuando le diagnostican cáncer de pulmón a un hombre que ni siquiera fuma.

Este hombre, profesor de química por las mañanas y empleado de un lavadero de autos por la tarde, no lograba juntar el dinero suficiente para mantener a su familia, conformada por su esposa, un hijo adolescente y una bebé en camino. Y sumado a ello, tenía que lidiar a diario con su cuñado, trabajador en la DEA (institución de Estados Unidos dedicada a la lucha contra la droga y el narcotráfico).

Un día acompañando a su cuñado en una misión para dar con unos jóvenes cocineros de metanfetamina, descubre a un ex-alumno cocinando, por lo que de alguna manera, más tarde, este hombre decide rastrear al chico para “invitarlo” a cocinar con él, en un negocio que les brindaría una ganancia a repartir en 5o y 50.

Walter White, este profesor interpretado por Bryan Cranston y Jesse Pinkman, a quien da vida Aaron Paul, empiezan de este modo un pequeño emprendimiento en un laboratorio montado en una caravana paupérrima. Characteristics and psychology of the characters

For this analysis I would love to have had a psychologist by my side, as we have many characters with extremely marked personalities. For example, we see the development of Walter White, who goes from being a man submissive to life itself, to slowly becoming a psychopath, remorseless and willing to do anything to satisfy an ambition that had far exceeded the desire to help his family after his possible death.

Walter's wife (Anna Gunn), a professional woman, an accountant, who agrees with her husband not to work in order to raise their children, even though they had certain financial problems that might have been solved if she had also contributed something. At the same time, this woman is at first very demanding of Walter, but then becomes a wife who has to put up with whatever her husband does, first out of respect for an illness and then because of the fear and uncertainty of not knowing what illegal project her husband has embarked on.

We then see Walter's former student, Jesse, as a very emotionally dependent boy who has a kind heart and all he wants is to generate some money, but he has stumbled upon a man who comes to manage him as he sees fit, permanently manipulating him for his own benefits. We see a Jesse disinterested in money, that what he wants more than to collect millions, is to be able to be in peace and even help the few people who cross his path and come to enrich his life.

We also have Hank (Dean Norris), Walter's brother-in-law who has an iron respect and commitment to his job and to his nation, and will do anything, even risk his life if necessary, to clean up the New Mexico area of any hint of drugs there are.

We also get to see the famous Saul (Bob Odenkirk), Walter and Jesse's lawyer, who unfortunately, although he is used to dealing with the "bad" side of society, with many of those who go to the left to do business, finally gets into a problem that ends his own career, as Walter's business grows so much but so much, that it goes beyond any border, be it legal, territorial, family, personal.

There are also other very particular characters with very specific traits such as Mike (Jonathan Banks) and Gus (Giancarlo Esposito), in addition to others who are directly linked to the world of drugs and who show loyalty, perfectionism, obsession and other very specific traits.

Características y psicología de los personajes

Para este análisis me encantaría haber tenido al lado a un psicólogo, ya que tenemos muchos personajes con personalidades extremadamente marcadas. Por ejemplo vemos el desarrollo de Walter White, que pasa de ser un hombre sumiso ante la vida misma, a convertirse lentamente en un psicópata, sin remordimientos y dispuesto a todo con tal de saciar una ambición que había excedido por lejos el deseo de ayudar a su familia tras su posible muerte.

La esposa de Walter (Anna Gunn), una mujer profesional, contadora, que acuerda con su marido no trabajar para poder educar a los hijos, aunque tuvieran ciertos problemas económicos que quizás se hubiesen solucionado si ella también hubiera aportado algo. Al mismo tiempo, esta mujer al principio se muestra muy exigente con Walter, pero luego se va tornando en una esposa que tiene que soportar lo que sea que haga su marido, primero por respetar una enfermedad y luego por el temor y la incertidumbre de no saber en qué proyecto ilegal se ha embarcado su esposo.

Luego vemos al ex alumno de Walter, Jesse, como un chico muy dependiente emocionalmente que tiene un corazón bondadoso y que lo único que quiere es generar algo de dinero, pero ha dado con un hombre que viene a manejarlo como se le ocurre, manipulandolo de manera permanente para obtener sus propios beneficios. Vemos a un Jesse desinteresado de dinero, que lo que desea más que juntar millones, es poder estar en paz e incluso ayudar a las pocas personas que se cruzan por su camino y que vienen a enriquecer su vida.

Teachings

You may be wondering what good can come out of a story like this, and outside of the controversy and polemic of drug trafficking, with which I do not agree, we see in this story, personified the thirst for success, and we can enjoy this in its best expression and in its worst, when Walter comes to tell us in our face: no extreme is good. It's not good to be a submissive in the face of life and it's not good to obsess about something to the point of losing your sanity.

Regardless of the negativity involved in the issue of drug production, there is a point in Walter's development where you can see how values and habits associated with a successful person are what effectively elevate the person to a level where they are able to achieve their goals.

You can see the dedication, the effort, the perfection, the desire to produce the best for others, and you can see how this is really capable of leading to success.

You also see how goodness can be maintained even in the face of a business full of darkness (this is seen in Jesse), and how human beings can remain good in the face of different critical experiences.

There is also a tremendous teaching about karma, how everything comes back, and at the same time the series gives the strong message that although there may be a lot of enrichment from drug trafficking (this applies to other illegal businesses), sooner or later justice does its part, either internally among these people, or literally because the law appears to bring order.

Te estarás preguntando qué de bueno puede dejar una historia así, y es que fuera de la controversia y polémica del narcotráfico, con lo cual aclaro no estoy de acuerdo, vemos en esta historia, personificada la sed de éxito, y podemos disfrutar de esto en su mejor expresión y en la peor, cuando viene Walter a decirnos en la cara: ningún extremo es bueno. No es bueno ser un sumiso ante la vida y no es bueno obsesionarse con algo hasta el punto de perder la cordura.

Independientemente de la negatividad que implica el tema de la producción de droga, hay un momento en el desarrollo de Walter, en que se puede ver cómo valores y hábitos vinculados con una persona de éxito, son los que efectivamente se encargan de elevar a la persona hacia un nivel en el cual es capaz de alcanzar sus objetivos.

Se puede ver la dedicación, el esfuerzo, la perfección, el deseo de producir lo mejor para los demás, y se ve cómo esto es realmente capaz de conducir al éxito.

También se observa cómo la bondad puede mantenerse aún estando frente a un negocio repleto de oscuridad (esto se ve en Jesse), y cómo el ser humano puede preservarse bondadoso ante diferentes experiencias críticas.

También hay una tremenda enseñanza sobre el karma, cómo todo vuelve, y al mismo tiempo la serie da el fuerte mensaje de que aunque pueda haber mucho enriquecimiento con el narcotráfico (esto aplica a otros negocios ilegales), tarde o temprano la justicia hace su parte, sea internamente entre estas personas, o sea literalmente porque la ley aparece para poner orden.

Breaking Bad is a series that one could talk about for many hours and write many words. This has been an introduction, an approach to this story that undoubtedly has diverse opinions and fans who are still analyzing it.
