Come stroll around this local market in Les Gets

Hello Hive and Market Friday friends! Today I'm taking you to a local market in Les Gets, France.

It turns out that one fine day I went out to discover the small town and I came across these stalls where they were selling tasty and local goodies.

Les Gets and the whole French Alps area has a religion level fanaticism with cheese. We know this is a France-wide thing, as fromage (cheese in French), is a French national icon that has become known internationally. And the truth is that it makes a lot of sense, as it is a delight.

This leads France to the fact that its gastronomic offerings of various kinds always, always include cheese among the options. And in a local market, this is the first thing to expect.

The goat cheese is something that stands out in these spaces, because it is something exotic and when someone who has never eaten this cheese tastes it, they realize how soft it is.

This market, as expected, had plenty of cheese, but it also had baked goods, olives of different origins, fruits and vegetables from local orchards, and some ready-made meals, such as the cake I bought for myself.

In my case, I accompanied this dish with some delicious colorful olives marinated in garlic that were exquisite.

They also sold sausages and cold cuts, another characteristic food of Les Gets and surrounding villages. Among them stands out the saucisson, which in Spanish would be the salami, only that to a Frenchman you can never compare his food with any other, because for them it is unique and unrepeatable (this actually makes some sense, which is even linked to the "Denomination of Origin" that is being used internationally).

There is one indisputable fact about this area of France, and that is that the tap water is basically Evian water (this is a famous French brand of water that is taken from the Alps). Locals say that the company literally bottles the water and sells it. I don't know, but the tap water of that place was delicious, without a doubt it is the most delicious water I have ever tasted in my life.

This comment comes because all the fruits, vegetables, animals, everything is made and raised with this water, so it translates into the taste, especially of vegetables and fruits.

That day I also bought a dessert called Eclair, which is similar to a profiterol but elongated, covered with chocolate (you can also find it with cream or caramel).

As everywhere I went I saw Eclair being sold, I thought I couldn't leave without trying it. It was tasty, but I wouldn't put this one among my favorites, as I don't really like the batter. However, there are many people who are fans of this dessert.

The day I took the pictures at the local market, Les Gets looked like a fairy tale. The perfection of the architecture in its houses had been decorated with snow, offering an extremely tidy landscape, a very French landscape, which even seemed to have been decorated by someone from above.

The local market that cold morning offered warmth and seemed to have been set up so that one could come and pamper oneself with something tasty.

The environment where we find the different markets is key, because the local market is always an exponent, usually gatronomic of the culture of that place, so it is usually tailored to your site. There we can find not only what is sold, but also the stories that people have to tell in their stalls, about their products, how they are made, the years that this enterprise has been in the place and much more.

When I got home after this walk, I ate the delicacies I had bought for myself. Except for the Eclair, which as you may have seen, I ate it right there in the bakery, contemplating the beauty of the landscape.
