Esta historia se basa en el libro que lleva el mismo nombre y que fue escrito por Elizabeth Gilbert, basándose en su experiencia de viaje de un año por Italia, la India y la Polynesia. Por lo tanto… se trata de una historia real.

This story is based on the book of the same name written by Elizabeth Gilbert, based on her year-long travel experience in Italy, India and Polynesia. Therefore... it is a true story.

¿De qué se trata?

La película nos muestra a una mujer en una crisis matrimonial que, con muchas dudas sobre ella y viendo que la relación con su esposo estaba en decadencia, da un paso al costado para aventurarse por nuevos senderos. De este modo, tras un romance con un joven, y después de reconocer que aquella historia no llegaría a demasiado, decide organizar un viaje que la llevaría a visitar países con culturas muy particulares cuyas tradiciones se han convertido en exponentes de estos países a nivel mundial.

Estoy hablando de Italia con su gastronomía; la India con sus religiones y Bali, con su tranquilidad y el amor que según la película representa a la zona.

The film shows us a woman in a marital crisis who, with many doubts about her and seeing that her relationship with her husband was in decline, takes a step aside to venture down new paths. Thus, after an affair with a young man, and after recognizing that that story would not come to much, she decides to organize a trip that would take her to visit countries with very particular cultures whose traditions have become exponents of these countries worldwide.

I am talking about Italy with its gastronomy; India with its religions and Bali, with its tranquility and the love that according to the film represents the area.

En cada uno de estos lugares, Elizabeth, el personaje protagonista, conoce a diferentes personas y atraviesa distintas situaciones que de alguna manera la van haciendo encontrarse con ella.

Y hay algo muy particular en la película y en la historia, y es que ella empieza por lo más básico, por lo físico, por el simple placer de la comida, que él lo que destaca de Roma, más allá de todas las experiencias que vive ahí; para luego vencer al ego en la India, sumergiéndose en un retiro de mujeres; y finalmente va a Bali, donde tras haberse “depurado” de alguna manera, se permite entregarse nuevamente a la sensación y sentimiento puros de amar.

And there is something very particular in the film and in the story, and that is that she starts with the most basic, with the physical, with the simple pleasure of food, which is what stands out in Rome, beyond all the experiences she lives there; then she overcomes her ego in India, immersing herself in a women's retreat; and finally she goes to Bali, where after having "purified" herself in some way, she allows herself to surrender again to the pure feeling and sensation of loving.

He visto esta película tres veces, en momentos bastantes diferentes de mi vida. Desde una juventud bastante infantil (es decir, inmadura, en mis veinte), hasta ya siendo una adulta frente a decisiones trascendentales en mi vida. Y siempre la película, me hace ver algo nuevo, despertar, detenerme a observar.

Solo por curiosidad busqué información de la autora del libro y de hecho su vida me dejó muy sorprendida para bien, ya que al menos yo, me identifico mucho con bastantes aspectos de su propia historia.

I have seen this movie three times, at quite different times in my life. From a rather childish youth (that is, immature, in my twenties), to being an adult facing transcendental decisions in my life. And always the film makes me see something new, wake up, stop and observe.

Just out of curiosity I looked for information about the author of the book and in fact her life left me very surprised for the better, since at least I, I identify very much with many aspects of her own story.

Nuevamente, recomiendo esta película a todas y a todos, pero en especial a aquellas personas que estén en un proceso de transformación y necesiten un mensaje, algo que pueda indicarles cuál es este próximo paso. Claramente esta es una historia poderosa y no todos podrán tomar de ella las mismas enseñanzas, ya que según la experiencia de cada uno, es la interpretación que se tendrá sobre la película en general y sobre sus diferentes momentos.

Again, I recommend this film to everyone, but especially to those people who are in a process of transformation and need a message, something that can tell them what this next step is. Clearly this is a powerful story and not everyone will be able to take from it the same teachings, because according to the experience of each one, it is the interpretation that one will have about the film in general and about its different moments.
