Lo cierto es que miro con nostalgia y admiración aquellos posts que he escrito esperando un bus, un avión, en medio de un bullicioso hostel, en ciudades desconocidas. Supongo que se trata de no ahogarse en un vaso de agua y agradecer también lo que me brinda el presente, más allá que la energía que enfoca a mis propios proyectos, no pueda encauzarse directamente a mis objetivos.

The truth is, I look back with nostalgia and admiration at those posts I wrote while waiting for a bus or a plane, in the middle of a bustling hostel, in unfamiliar cities. I suppose it’s about not making a mountain out of a molehill and also being grateful for what the present offers me—even if the energy I focus on my own projects can’t be channeled directly toward my goals.

No estoy acá por casualidad, podrán imaginarlo, hoy es 9 de Julio, día de la Independencia argentina y hace un par de días hemos demostrado tener una resiliencia increíble, saliendo ganadores de un partido en donde todo parecía perdido. Pero sabíamos que no era así, sabíamos en el fondo que íbamos a darlo vuelta y lo hicimos.

Tuve la suerte de pasar aquel momento con otros argentinos, y pude sentir esa pasión, esa cercanía a la distancia, que nos recuerda que venimos de un país hermoso, repleto de buena gente y que lo da todo hasta el último momento para salir adelante y brillar.

I’m not here by chance—as you can imagine—today is July 9, Argentina’s Independence Day, and a couple of days ago we showed incredible resilience, coming out on top in a game where everything seemed lost. But we knew that wasn’t the case; deep down, we knew we were going to turn it around, and we did.

I was lucky enough to share that moment with other Argentines, and I could feel that passion—that closeness despite the distance—which reminds us that we come from a beautiful country, full of good people who give it their all until the very last moment to succeed and shine.

Vimos ese partido en Cala Galdana, una de las playas más bonitas del sur de Menorca, no conocía a nadie casi, solamente a Cami y Lu, dos chicas argentinas que trabajan en un hotel de la zona donde yo vivo ahora.

Fue impresionante, al principio algunos españoles se burlaban de nosotros por los goles que estaba metiendo Egipto. Tuvimos que “bancarnos” eso, hasta que dejamos un poco de lado ese “ruido” y empezamos a cantar para la Scaloneta, y mas cantabamos, mas nos acercabamos al arco, hasta que poco a poco la fuerza de todos los argentinos en nuestro pais y alrededor del mundo, mas la tremenda energia de ese equipo que es para admirar, lo hizo posible.

We watched that game in Cala Galdana, one of the most beautiful beaches in southern Menorca. I hardly knew anyone there—just Cami and Lu, two Argentine girls who work at a hotel in the area where I live now.

It was amazing. At first, some Spaniards were making fun of us because of all the goals Egypt was scoring. We had to “put up with” that until we tuned out that “noise” a bit and started cheering for the Scaloneta. The more we cheered, the closer we got to the goal, until little by little, the strength of all Argentines in our country and around the world, combined with the tremendous energy of that team—which is truly admirable—made it possible.

A tan solo dos días celebramos nuestra independencia, en mi caso, desde el país que en algún momento nos gobierno, aún más allá del océano.

Aunque hoy no hice nada especial, la verdad es que he estado recordando muchísimo a Argentina y lo único que espero es que como sociedad, podamos demostrar lo fuertes que somos, para que así, poliitica y económicamente pueda verse también el resultado de un pueblo que acompaña, y no porque se le vaya a dar algo a cambio, sino porque lo siente.

Los abrazo amigos, siempre con mi corazón acá conmigo pero también en mi país.

In just two days, we’ll be celebrating our independence—in my case, from the country that once ruled us, even from across the ocean.

Although I didn’t do anything special today, the truth is that I’ve been thinking about Argentina a lot, and my only hope is that, as a society, we can show just how strong we are—so that, politically and economically, the results of a people who stand together can be seen, not because they’ll get something in return, but because they feel it in their hearts.
