Hello my dear friends from all over Hive and Pinmapple in particular, I hope you are having a beautiful day. This time we will venture to visit one of the most exotic places I have ever known in Italy.

Although this beautiful country has beautiful and dazzling corners for all tastes, knowing that near Rome and just half an hour by bus from Terni there is a waterfall, I think it is a relevant fact for nature lovers who are visiting Rome.

Besides, combining this trip with a visit to the Basilica of Valentino seems like a great idea to add a bit of romance to the trip, hehe.

Vamos a una aventura hacia la Cascata delle Marmore y Basílica San Valentino, Italia

Hola mis queridos amigos de todo Hive y de Pinmapple en particular, espero que estén teniendo un hermoso día. En esta oportunidad nos aventuraremos a visitar uno de los lugares más exóticos que he conocido en Italia.

Aunque este hermoso país cuenta con rincones bellísimos y deslumbrantes para todos los gustos, el saber que cerca de Roma y a tan solo media hora en bus de Terni hay una cascada, me parece un dato relevante para los amantes de la naturaleza que estén de visita por Roma.

Además, combinar este viaje con una visita a la Basílica de Valentino, parece una gran idea para agregarle una pizca de romance al paseo, jeje.

Cascata delle Marmore

This waterfall is located 2 hours by bus from Rome, to be more specific, and the fastest way is through Terni, as previously mentioned.

It is a very good trip to do in one day, but I advise you to check beforehand if the access to the waterfall is enabled, because on the one hand, it is not open every day, and on the other hand, in winter season, the property is closed.

When I went, it was almost mid-October, and I could only see the waterfall from the entrance to the property. Anyway, it was a beautiful landscape, which took me to another Italy, and showed me the richness of this country's landscape.

This area is special for trekking because it has different circuits. I could only stay on the path that was bordering the park, for the aforementioned reason.

Esta cascada se encuentra a 2 horas en bus desde Roma, para ser más concreta, y el camino más rápido es pasando por Terni, como comentaba previamente.

Es una salida muy buena para hacer en un sólo día, pero te aconsejo que antes te fijes si el acceso a la cascada está habilitado, porque por un lado, no abre todos los días, y por otro lado, en temporada de invierno, el predio permanece cerrado.

Cuando yo fui, ya era casi mediados de octubre, y sólo pude ver la cascada desde el ingreso al predio. Igualmente, fue un paisaje bellísimo, que me trasladó a otra Italia, y me demostró la riqueza paisajística que tiene este país.

Este sector es especial para practicar trekking porque cuenta con diferentes circuitos. Yo solo pude mantenerme en el sendero que estaba bordeando el parque, por el motivo mencionado.

In the Nera River Park, which is where we can enjoy this waterfall, there is a campsite for those who want to spend the night in a tent, but there are also different services that you can enjoy, such as restaurants or more comfortable accommodations.

It is essential to take into account that just as the waterfall grounds are closed, during the low season many of the bars and restaurants are also closed, as well as the accommodations. Even the frequency of public transportation is lower, and this is not a place to arrive at night and find yourself lost.

For this reason, it is of utmost importance to be informed before you go.

In my case, I arrived early and everything was closed, but I could not miss what was within my reach, so I walked a little, took pictures, and when I saw that it was already 4 pm, I returned to where the bus had left me.

The thing is that I had no signal and I didn't know what time the bus would pass by. Luckily I found an empty cafeteria with its owners inside, who told me to stand on the street where the bus sign was, that later it would pass by. So I did, and after about 20 minutes, the "one way" bus passed by and I took it. The driver warned me that he still had more to go up and then down and back to the center of Terni, but since all I wanted was to be in the direction of the city, I took it, and in half an hour or maybe a little more, I was already in Terni center.

You may be wondering how I took the pictures, hehe. If you notice, in one hand I have a round black device, it's a kind of remote control that was connected by bluetooth with the selfie stick, where I had the cell phone, hehe.

En el Parque Fluvial del Nera, que es donde podremos disfrutar de esta cascada, hay un camping para quienes quieren pasar allí la noche en una tienda, pero también hay diferentes servicios de los que podrán disfrutar, como restaurantes o alojamientos más cómodos.

Es fundamental tener en cuenta que así como está cerrado el predio de la cascada, en temporada baja también están cerrados muchos de los bares o restaurantes como también los alojamientos. Incluso la frecuencia del transporte público es menor, y este no es un lugar para que llegue la noche y te encuentres allí perdida.

Por este motivo, informarse antes de ir, es de suma importancia.

En mi caso, llegué temprano y estaba todo cerrado, pero no podía no conocer lo que estaba a mi alcance, así que caminé un poco, tomé fotos, y cuando vi que eran ya las 4 pm, regresé a donde me había dejado el bus.

El tema es que no tenía señal y no sabía la hora a la que pasaría el transporte. Por suerte encontré una cafetería vacía con sus dueños dentro, que me dijeron que me parara en la calle en donde estaba el cartel del bus, que más tarde pasaría. Eso hice, y tras unos 20 minutos, el bus “de ida”, pasó y lo tomé. El chofer me advirtió que todavía le faltaba subir más para luego bajar y regresar al centro de Terni, pero como lo único que yo quería, era estar dirección a la ciudad, pues lo tomé, y en media hora o quizás un poco más, ya estaba en Terni centro.

Es posible que se estén preguntando cómo hice para tomarme las fotos, jeje. Si observan, en una mano tengo un aparato redondo de color negro, es una especie de control remoto que se conectaba por bluetooth con el palo selfie, en donde tenía el celular, jeje.

Basilica of Valentino

You've seen how surprising places can be, haven't you?

That was my first time in Terni, and I was fascinated because that is the land of my ancestors by maternal line, so in my first research, I started looking for the highlights, and then I found that there was the Basilica of the famous St. Valentine, so I wanted to go.

On my way to this place, I met a gentleman of about 65 years old who for some reason accompanied me to the Basilica. Although we were chatting and his company was pleasant, as he spoke to me in Italian and I answered him in Spanish, I did not feel too comfortable with his presence, so I was quite alert during the whole walk.

The gentleman told me that Valentino was a priest who married lovers on the sly, and that is why he was murdered. I wasn't sure if I understood him correctly, so later I looked up this information and yes, it was correct.

The basilica is humble, small, the kind of spiritual spaces that I enjoy (I don't like the ones that are overly flashy). It struck me that on this priest's staff, there was a very small figure of what I believe is Christ (Jesus) carrying the cross.

Esa era mi primera vez en Terni, y estaba fascinada porque esa es la tierra de mis antepasados por línea materna, por lo que en mi primera investigación, empecé a buscar los lugares destacados, y entonces encontré que allí estaba la Basílica del famoso San Valentín, así que quería ir.

De camino a este lugar, me encontré con un señor de unos 65 años que por algún motivo me acompañó hasta la Basílica. Aunque fuimos charlando y su compañía fue agradable, pues el me hablaba en italiano y yo le respondía en español, no me sentí demasiado cómoda con su presencia, así que estuve bastante alerta durante toda la caminata.

El señor me contó que Valentino era un sacerdote que casaba a los enamorados a escondidas, y por eso fue asesinado. No estaba segura de haberle entendido bien, así que después busqué esta información y sí, era correcta.

La basílica es humilde, pequeña, del tipo de espacios espirituales que disfruto (no me gustan los que son excesivamente despampanantes). Me llamó la atención que en el bastón de este sacerdote, había una figura muy pequeña de lo que creo que es Cristo (Jesús) llevando la cruz.

El área donde está la Basílica es bellísima y tiene una energía calma y radiante.

A little more about Terni

I had taken a train ticket for a later time, so when I returned from the basilica, still with the gentleman at my side (I think his name was Enrico), I took the opportunity to visit some points that looked interesting on the map, and Enrico suggested me to go to a sort of colosseum of Terni, of course he went with me.

He better have gone, because he talked to the guard and they let us in to see it. I don't have much idea what this was, because I didn't understand the explanation very well, but of course I took some pictures.

Around the time of my train, I very kindly told Enrico that I wanted to continue walking a little longer alone, because he wanted to connect with me, and he kindly left and shared with me his facebook (I'm confirming right now that his name is Enrico).

I took advantage and went for an ice cream, and then went to get the train and return to Rome.

Había sacado un boleto de tren para un horario más tarde, así que cuando regresé de la basílica, todavía con el señor a mi lado (creo que se llamaba Enrico), aproveché pasa visitar algunos puntos que parecían de interés en el mapa, y Enrico me sugirió ir a una especie de coliseo de Terni, claro que fue conmigo.

Mejor que fue, porque habló con el guardia y nos dejaron pasar para verlo. No tengo mucha idea de qué era esto, porque no entendí muy bien la explicación, pero claro que tomé algunas fotos.

Cerca de la hora de mi tren, con mucha amabilidad le dije a Enrico que deseaba seguir caminando un poco más de tiempo sola, pues quería conectarme conmigo, y él, con amabilidad se retiró y compartió conmigo su facebook (estoy confirmando en este momento que su nombre es Enrico).

Yo aproveché y me fui a tomar un helado, para luego ir a por el tren y regresar así a Roma.

I did all this in one day, leaving around 10 am from Rome to Terni, so I recommend doing this visit if you have more than 5 days in Rome. Of course it depends on your interests, but Rome can be overwhelming for those who love calm and nature, and while captivating, it can be exhausting for the traveler who is not used to that pace (still, personally, I love Rome).

In my case, I love being able to disconnect, so I chose to dedicate a day to this adventure.

Hice todo esto en un solo día, saliendo alrededor de las 10 am desde Roma hacia Terni, por lo que recomiendo hacer esta visita si tienes más de 5 días en Roma. Claro que depende de tus intereses, pero Roma puede ser apabullante para quien ama la calma y la naturaleza, y al tiempo que cautiva, puede agotar al viajero que no está acostumbrado a ese ritmo (igual, personalmente, amo Roma).

En mi caso, me encanta poder desconectar, así que elegí dedicar un día a esta aventura.
