Where is it located?

Ubicado al oeste del Central Park, se encuentra esta inmensidad de infraestructura, resguardando gran parte de lo tesoros naturales del mundo. Hoy mis amigos de Pinmapple, de todo Hive y de toda la web, los llevo conmigo a visitar el famoso Museo de Historia Natural de la ciudad de Nueva York, un lugar que tuve la dicha de visitar.

What is this museum like?

The museum is huge, it really seems endless and has a first floor and 4 floors, which I did not manage to finish touring. It is divided into different sectors, dedicated to vegetation and different animals, and also shows the evolution of different species.

It has a large sector dedicated to paleontology, and another that focuses on the Solar System. In this space, there is a large part dedicated to Planet Earth.

Although I am not a fan of museums at all, I loved this one, and it was on this trip that I discovered and decided not to enter another museum, unless for some reason I really felt like doing it. In this case I was lucky, because I am passionate about the subject matter, so I did enjoy every part of it, and I even felt like going back, but I will tell you about the MET, where I decided not to go to a museum anymore because it is highly recommended for tourists.

¿Cómo es este museo?

El Museo es inmenso, realmente parece interminable y cuenta con una planta baja y 4 pisos, que no logré terminar de recorrer. Se divide en diferentes sectores, dedicados a la vegetación y a los diferentes animales, y también muestra la evolución de las diferentes especies.

Cuenta con un amplio sector dedicado a la paleontología, y con otro que hace foco en el Sistema Solar. En este espacio, hay una gran parte dedicada al Planeta Tierra.

Aunque no soy fanática de los museos en absoluto, este me encantó, y fue en este viaje en el que descubrí y decidí no entrar a otro museo, salvo que por algún motivo sintiera realmente ganas de hacerlo. En este caso tuve suerte, porque la temática me apasiona, entonces sí que disfruté de cada parte, e incluso me quedé con ganas de volver, pero ya les hablaré del MET, en donde decidí no ir más a un museo porque sea altamente recomendado para turistas.

Why do you love it?

What I liked most about the American Museum of Natural History is the detail that has been given to each sector. It is a unique experience, as the images come from all sides and in all forms. There are everything from stuffed animals, to dinosaur bones, to animals hanging from the ceiling in real size, to tree bark.

It truly exhibits treasures that allow us to observe the magnitude of nature, its imposing nature, and invites us to immerse ourselves in it.

If one were to visit this museum several times, and take the time to read and observe, one could leave with a Master's degree in Natural History, as everything is explained in a detailed and engaging way. And best of all, the information is understandable, not that it is made for experts. In fact, you can see this in the images I share of the explanatory posters.

The constant relationships between the size of animals or trees and human beings, is something that made me fall in love, because many living beings are in real size, and it is hard to believe it until you see the image of a person compared to what is exposed. Also, if the figure is not life-size, there is the relation to the size of a human being, which allows access to a clearer notion of what is in front of you.

The floors are huge and each one of them, like its rooms, is dedicated to a theme. I recommend a first visit, quick, to get to know, to get lost there, and another a little more specific if there is a theme that attracts you more.

Something that I also liked a lot as soon as I entered, is a quote from Roosevelt written on a stone sign that reads as follows:

I want to see you game boys,
i want to see you brave and manly,
and i also want to see you gentle and tender.

Be practical as well as generous in your ideals.
Keep your eyes on the stars
and keep your feet on the ground.

Courage, hard work, self mastery, and intelligent effort

¿Por qué enamora?

Lo que más me gustó del Museo Americano de Historia Natural, es el detalle que se le ha brindado a cada sector. Es una experiencia única, pues las imágenes llegan desde todos lados y en todas las formas. Hay desde animales disecados, hasta huesos de dinosaurios, animales colgando del techo en tamaño real, cortezas de árboles.

Verdaderamente expone tesoros, que permiten observar la magnitud de la naturaleza, su imponencia, e invita a sumergirse en ella.

Si uno visitara ese museo varias veces, y se tomara el tiempo de leer y observar, podría salir de allí con un Máster en Historia Natural, pues todo está explicado de manera detallada y comprometida. Y lo mejor de todo, es que la información se entiende, no es que está hecha para expertos. De hecho, pueden observar esto en las imágenes que comparto de los carteles explicativos.

Las constantes relaciones entre el tamaño de los animales o árboles y el ser humano, es algo que me enamoró, pues muchos seres vivos se encuentran en tamaño real, y cuesta creerlo hasta que se ve la imagen de una persona en comparación con lo que está expuesto. Además, si la figura no está en tamaño real, existe la relación con el tamaño de un ser humano, lo cual permite acceder a una noción más clara de lo que se tiene en frente.

Los pisos son enormes y cada uno de ellos, como sus salas, se dedica a una temática. Recomiendo hacer una primera visita, rápida, para conocer, para perderse allí, y otra un poco más específica si es que hay algún tema que te atraiga más.

Algo que me gustó también muchísimo ni bien ingresé, es una cita de Roosevelt escrita en un cartel de piedra que dice lo siguiente:

Quiero veros a vosotros, chicos del juego,
quiero veros valientes y varoniles
y también quiero veros gentiles y tiernos.

Sean prácticos y generosos en sus ideales.

Television participation

This museum became very famous for "appearing" in the series Friends, where the paleontologist Ross worked. In the shared images you can see one that appeared in a scene of the series, when Rachel and Ross's ex, go to visit the museum. Also, the series was not filmed in New York, but in California.

As a fan of this TV series, I always dreamed of visiting this museum where Ross, Rachel's lover, proudly worked as a Paleontologist. Being a geographer myself and knowing that in this place there were wonders of the world thanks to the sermons of the famous Ross, I needed, someday, to set foot in this place, and I did.

Besides, this museum "figures" in the famous movie A Night at the Museum, although it is not that it was filmed there.

Este museo se hizo muy famoso por “aparecer” en la serie Friends, donde trabajaba el paleontólogo, Ross. En las imágenes compartidas podrán ver una que apareció en una escena de la serie, cuando Rachel y la ex de Ross, van a visitarlo al museo. Como fanática de esta serie televisiva, siempre soñé con visitar este museo en donde Ross, el enamorado de Rachel, trabajaba orgullosamente como Paleontólogo. Siendo yo geógrafa y sabiendo que en este lugar se encontraban maravillas del mundo gracias a los sermones del famoso Ross, necesitaba, algún día, pisar este lugar, y lo hice.

Además, este museo “figura” en la famosa película Una noche en el Museo, aunque no es que se haya filmado allí.
