The Obelisk, 9 de Julio Street and recycle day: emblems of the capital of Argentina, Buenos Aires

Hello my dear friends of Wednesday Walk, today I will share some shots I took at the Obelisco in Buenos Aires. Although it was a few months ago, I think it is not only beautiful scenery that you will see, but it is also very important to raise awareness about environmental care.

It turns out that when I arrived in Buenos Aires, for some reason that I don't really know, the first thing I wanted to do was to see the Obelisk, so I went as soon as I could, but I got a big surprise: the base of the Obelisk was full of plastic bags.

I imagined that it was some kind of construction work, then I thought it could be some kind of claim by the people, but later I turned my eyes to the huge sign "BA" and saw that in the esplanade there were stands and several people had gathered in the area.

Hola mis queridos amigos de Wednesday Walk, hoy compartiré unas tomas que hice en el Obelisco de Buenos Aires. Aunque fue hace unos meses, creo que no solo es bonito el escenario que verán, sino que también es muy importante para generar una toma de conciencia sobre el cuidado ambiental.

Resulta que cuando llegué a Buenos Aires, por algún motivo que la verdad desconozco, lo primero que quería hacer era ver el Obelisco, así que fui tan pronto como pude, pero me llevé una gran sorpresa: la base del mismo estaba repleta de bolsas de plástico.

Imaginé que era algún tipo de obra, luego pensé que podía ser algún reclamo por parte del pueblo, pero posteriormente giré mi vista hacia el enorme cartel de “BA” y vi que en la explanada habían stands y varias personas se habían reunido en el sector.

Of course... when I approached it, I understood everything: it was an initiative to educate about the importance of recycling because its day, May 17th, was coming soon. That's why the bags were "decorating" the Obelisk and also suggesting that in case of using plastic, the best thing to do is to follow the triple "R" rule: RECYCLE, REUSE, REDUCE.

On the esplanade there were different activities where people could participate, for example a bicycle to make reference to energy generation, and games related to the theme. The children seemed very happy with these stands and as you will see in the photos, not only they were playing, but the adults had also joined in the fun based on environmental education.

Claro… cuando me acerqué comprendí todo: era una iniciativa para educar sobre la importancia del reciclaje porque su día, 17 de Mayo, estaba próximo. Por eso estaban las bolsas “decorando” el Obelisco y también sugiriendo que en caso de utilizar plástico, lo mejor es acudir a la regla triple “R”: RECICLAR, REUTILIZAR, REDUCIR.

En la explanada habían diferentes actividades donde las personas podían participar, por ejemplo una bicicleta para hacer referencia a la generación de energía, y juegos que se relacionaban con el tema. Los niños y niñas parecían muy felices con estos stands y como verán en las fotos, no solo ellos jugaban, sino que los adultos también se habían sumado a la diversión con base en la educación ambiental.

Then I went to where the "BA" sign was, because I wanted a picture of the sign, as it is very beautiful, it is like a whole vine that gives it its color, and I didn't have a current picture of it, and I think the old one I have comes out pretty bad.

So, since I wanted my photo, I lined up so I could get to have an interesting shot of the sign, and luckily I did.

I thought it was interesting to focus on this point, which is a nucleus of the microcenter in Capital Federal (Buenos Aires). Although I had been walking along Corrientes, Florida and Avenida de Mayo streets before, I stopped especially to photograph this, as it was my main objective.

En el sitio habían personas explorando la zona, tomando fotos e incluso profesionales que capturaban aquel momento.

Luego fui hacia donde estaba el cartel “BA”, porque quería una foto del cartel, ya que es muy bonito, es como toda una enredadera la que le da su color, y no tenía una foto actual del mismo, y creo que la vieja que tengo sale bastante mal.

Así que, como quería mi foto, hice la fila para poder llegar a tener un plano interesante del cartel, y por suerte lo logré.

Me pareció interesante hacer foco en este punto, que constituye un núcleo del microcentro en Capital Federal (Buenos Aires). A pesar de que había estado caminando antes por las calles Corrientes, Florida y Avenida de Mayo, me detuve en especial a fotografiar esto, pues era mi objetivo principal.

I did decide to add to this post, some images of Avenida 9 de Julio. I clarify that these were taken a couple of days before, but the day I managed to take the moment to calmly approach the Obelisk, I also walked along Avenida 9 de Julio only I didn't take pictures anymore.

These shots are here because the route was part of my walk that day and because this avenue leads directly to the Obelisk, which is located between Corrientes and 9 de Julio.

This will allow those of you who do not know Buenos Aires to get an idea of what a walk in this area is like, because not only will you get to see the emblem of the capital of Argentina, but you will also be able to enjoy precious moments under the canopy of those trees that embrace what is currently one of the widest avenues in the world, with 140 meters wide. Una de las avenidas más anchas del mundo entero: Av. 9 de Julio

Sí decidí añadir a este post, algunas imágenes de la Avenida 9 de Julio. Aclaro que estas fueron tomadas un par de días antes, pero el día que logré tomarme el momento de acercarme tranquila al Obelisco, también caminé por la Avenida 9 de Julio solo que ya no tomé fotos.

Van estas tomas porque el recorrido fue parte de mi caminata de aquel día y porque esta Avenida conduce directo al Obelisco, que se encuentra entre Corrientes y 9 de Julio.

Esto les permitirá, a quienes no conoces Buenos Aires, hacerse una idea de lo que es una caminata por esta zona, pues no solamente se acercaran a ver el emblema de la capital de Argentina, sino que podrán disfrutar de preciosos momentos bajo la copa de aquellos árboles que se abrazan en lo que actualmente es una de las avenidas más anchas del mundo, con 140 metros de ancho. En esta Avenida no solo disfrutarán de bellísima vegetación que adorna a la avenida con diferentes pasarelas, sino que hay un despliegue cultural e histórico en ella. Por ejemplo, verán diferentes obras que van apareciendo en las esquinas y se encontrarán con edificios que, simpaticen o no con los personajes que exponen, son estructuras referentes del paisaje urbano de Buenos Aires.
