A Face full of grass and weeds...
Hmmmm, that title makes it sound a little more fun than this particular day was... I don't really have hayfever... but when I have my face down in the grass and doing the weeding... well, it is best for me to take a couple of tablets for the potential itchy eyes and headache that is likely to follow...
... anyway, as we exit out of winter, it is probably long past due for the grass at the back to get a good trimming to encourage the new growth to wake up... and as you can see down the back there, it is only a few more square metres left to do in the coming weeks so that we can finish off this grassed area. Hopefully, I will get that done just in time for the grass store to start stocking and selling that particular grass that we need!
... and wow, there were about 10 bags full of this dry overgrowth on the the grass. And every time I tipped the mower bag into the storage bags... yep, a huge cloud of grass clippings straight into the face. Lucky I took those tablets... and I'm even wondering if I should have worn a mask!
Anyway, I managed to get away with only a slightly itchy eye... and I'm wondering if that was more due to actual bits of grass being in my eyes rather than a reaction!
... ARRRRHGH... and the weeds won't just stay down and stop growing... sigh, I think I have weeded this patch every few months for the last few years... this time, I'm taking it all down, and then mulching over it. So sick of doing it...

i hear you there, even though it is as dry as dust in QLD the weeds will grow. while the celery wilts... grrr...
I resorted to watering our lawn yesterday (we DO have tanks) because it is yellow brown as well. im sure i will regret having to mow more when it do..

Oh, is it crazy dry up there already? Good luck with the summer, it is promising to be a hot and dry one...
we have had a HORRIBLE week with bush fires. burning everywhere. all the ones down the road are out today but still. Its been nasty. and yes. everything is brown and crispy... add the wind... and well... you know how that goes. i can't remember the last time we had rain... it would be months ago... not since our new solar got put in in july anyway. ive been wanting rain to make sure there are no holes in the roof... so thats a we while...

You probably should have worn a mask and safety glasses if you were going to be inhaling that much grass bits.
I have a crazy grasslands that is happening right now in my cottage garden (I call it "the lawn" because it amuses me as it's the complete opposite of most people's idea of lawn). I love it but need to get a scythe soon.
Well... if I knew I was getting that much grass in the face...
I have a friend who uses a scythe, it seems really quite cool! I'm not sure it wold work for us... too many levels and rocks to smash the blade against.
LoL maybe not XD My area is pretty flat and by that stage theoretically any bits the scythe might struggle with should be doable by hand or chicken (though those things are much harder to control).
